Gone fishing It is not a great time to be an Arsenal, but here's a humorous little straw for
downtrodden Gooners to cling to. The club has signed the son of the man who spearheaded part one of
the campaign to bring Cesc Fabregas back to Barcelona. Guim Laporta, son of ex-Barca president
Joan, is [...
So our friends at Barca sent this cool video as part of the club's new campaign to foster
"healthy eating habits". In it, Lionel Messi appears as a cross between the a
14-year-old version of himself and Tin Tin the detective. "I know that if I train and eat
well, I will win the Ballon d'Or," he drawls lazily, clearly unaware they would be using
this footage again 10 years later.
Sir Alex Ferguson has defended the touchline antics of Jose Mourinho.
The Real Madrid manager hit the headlines once more after appearing to poke Barcelona assistant
Tito Vilanova in the eye following a recent Spanish Supercopa clash. Many feel such incidents could
cost Mourinho any chance of succeeding Ferguson as Manchester United boss when the Scot eventually
calls time on his stellar career.
Tomorrow evening, it's Valencia-Barcelona at the Mestalla, one of the classicos of Spanish
football.
While not the biggest match on our schedule, it's an important one nonetheless.
It's only the 4th game of the early season schedule, but it will tell us a lot about where we
stand in the league.
Untold Arsenal on Twitter @UntoldArsenal By Tony Attwood The fact that Liverpool managed to
scramble out of the mire, and Barca, having famously run out of cash so they couldn't pay the
players, are still there buying the likes of Cesc etc makes some people think that there is no
crisis. But crisis there is, [.
VIVA VALENCIA! The city must be celebrating their 2-2 draw against
Barcelona last night ("I told you so" messages from Valencian friends are on the way). Of course,
the popular hero of the hour was deemed to be Cesc Fabregas for saving Barca but
it's time to give credit where it's due to Los Che, who were 10 men down and stuck till
the end.

Right, so Real Madrid and Barcelona came away from the weekend with nice
thrashings of their opponents (6-2 and 5-0 respectively). But while the socios are out
popping their 1,245th bottle of champagne clearly you can all start to see a pattern here? The La
Liga is starting to morph into that dreary prospect of a two-legged race!

There's nothing wrong with a little bit of positive outlook when moving clubs, hoping to make
the most of one's experience, no matter the daunting task ahead.
It's also a properly good idea to know one's opponents. Diego, on a one-year loan to Atletico
Madrid, apparently does not.
"I am glad to join Atletico, I was really eager to play here because this is a great club and I
could not have arrived at a better moment," Diego said to reporters at his unveiling.

World Champions Spain and Chile celebrated FIFA's Fair Play Day in Switzerland in ironic fashion
by having a bit of a ding-dong at the end of the game, which the visitors won 3-2.
The kerfuffle somewhat overshadowed the fact that Barcelona's perennially pasty-looking schemer
Andrea Iniesta had scored his first international goal since his World Cup final winner back in
July 2010.
With talk of Real Madrid and Barca destroying Spanish soccer and leaving for a European Super
League, I talk you back to a post I did two years ago on what a European Soccer League would look
like. The League would feature 24 teams and could be really interesting. It could work, but I would
hate to see the current structure destroyed.
I wrote earlier that former Real Madrid director general Jorge Valdano believes that Barcelona
and Real Madrid will abandon La Liga for a European league if their dominance of La Liga
continues.
The dominance of Barca and Real derives in part from their control of revenue from TV rights,
which gives them a far bigger share of the pot than rivals in other major European leagues.

Last year, Ajax was drawn into the same group as Real Madrid in the Champions League. And Barca
and Ajax icon watched in disgust how his arch enemy club Real Madrid tore his beloved Ajax apart (
2-0; 4-0).

The UEFA Champions League kicks off tonight and our Fantasy Football team is up and running in
the Idealo UK league. Our team (naturally called Futbolita FC with pink shorts)
has Barca's Xavi as our captain and Arsenal's Szczesny as starting goalkeeper. We've also got Pato
and Chicharito playing upfront.
The UEFA Champions League group stage kicks off on Tuesday with half of the teams in action, but
one match wil command a bit more attention than the rest.
Defending European champion Barcelona welcomes AC Milan to Camp Nou for a high-profile
group-stage opener (2:45 p.m.
FC Barcelona for the second time in four days failed to kill off a game which they dominated,
and ended sharing points in the first match of Champions League this season. AC Milan took a shock
lead within 25 second of start through Pato. Barca over turned it from through goals from Pedro and
Villa, but then in the dying moments Thiago Silva equalised from the corner for AC Milan.
Barcelona continue to win trophies with the Catalans lifting the European and Spanish Super Cups
prior to the start of La Liga's 2011-12 season. Barca will be favorites to repeat as champions for
the obvious reasons such as the magic ...
Oh hey, that's Thiago Silva and Pato on the verge of doing a
samba dance! IBRA-whoooo? Ah, yes, such is the sweet tune of football you just want to
keep proving yourself worthy of a place in first-team football. If these two irmãos keep
up the momentum, the World Cup will come calling and so will the festa de SAMBA!
Of all the insanity from Barca Milan, this might top it all. Just watch and appreciate. There's
little else to say. (The very beginning and Thiago Silva's goal comes around the 3:40 mark.)
It's almost like he's building to a Pato climax in the seconds before the opener. And no, you
did not need that imagery, but it's on the house.
A cracking match at Barca's Camp Nou, featured a sensational start with Alex Pato 24 seconds in
opening the scoring for visitors AC Milan. The 22-year-old Brazilian Pato raced clear of a static
Barcelona back four, and slid the ball beyond keeper Víctor Valdés giving the Italian champions
the earliest of leads.
There was Benze-cat, and now there's Cris Charming. Yuck.."He's NOT handsome!" was my wife's instant reply when I read Cristiano's post-game comments to her.
I can only suppose that this is what happens when you read out comments that epitomize the
arrogance of an ex-Manchester United Player to a Liverpool fan.

season. Part of that is the influence of FC Barcelona, felt from the top clubs in Europe, to
national teams, to rec sides that like what they see from Pep Guardiola's Barca style.

This week's main report takes a look at this season's Spanish League: La Liga 2011-12. This
report has a transcript below and explanations of key vocabulary (in bold) can be
found at the foot of the post, while other key phrases (in blue) also have meanings explained.
Throughout the summer, football pundits wasted no opportunity in hyping the current Premier
League season to be the most competitive in the history of English top flight.
Many described the level of competition to result in a plethora of twists and turns, with
champions Manchester United tipped to lose a ton of sleep due to the star power of neighbors
Manchester City and the strength of Andre Villas-Boas' experienced Chelsea side.
Ibrahim Afellay, who recently returned from an injury suffered a huge set back with him
suffering another serious injury. The official Barcelona site says - "Ibrahim Affellay has torn a
crucial ligament in his left knee while training. He will require surgery and may miss upto six
months of top flight football.
FC Barcelona continued their excellent home run in 2011-12 La Liga season with a 5-0 victory
against the high flying Atletico Madrid. With this victory FC Barcelona moved to second place in
the La Liga standing. David Villa opened the scoring for Barca, followed by an own goal from
Miranda and three brilliant goals from Messi gave Barca a comfortable victory, which is Barca's
fifth in a row against the same side.
El arbitro tan desdeñado , tan calumniado , tan no querido. ¡tan malentendido muy mal querido
a cualquier persona.

Dorothy said it best. There's no place like home. Taking full advantage of a return to the
Camp Nou, Barcelona shrugged off doubts over its midweek draw against Valencia, blitzkrieging
Atletico Madrid 5-0 with a breathtaking display of attacking football.
As I write this Messi has glided past three defenders to add his name to the score-sheet against
Athletico Madrid. It's the 26th minute and Athletico are already 3-0 down at the Camp Nou.
It's a little embarrassing and not in the sense that Barcelona are romping home to another
victory.
The Rueful Rest: If the rumours are true, we're going to be seeing a lot of this one. Frank isn't
the kind of boy to express his frustration at being benched in the traditional manner, but to those
trained to spot the signs, his pretty pink protruberance is indicative of a troubled mind.
Ah, would you just look at THAT! If it isn't Chelsea's resident Spaniards in
Valencia wearing Los Che's traditional colours,
Orange! You can't get any cheesier than that in a strangely endearing way, of
course. Anyway, Juan Mata is all set to face his former side tonight when Valencia
host Chelsea at the Mestalla.
Barcelona and Arsenal picked up their first Champions League victories of the season while
Marseille made it two wins out of two after thrashing Dortmund.
Winners of the competition in three of the last six seasons, Barcelona were held to a 2-2 draw
by AC Milan on matchday one, but turned in a clinical performance to win 5-0 at BATE.
