In which Scouse crooner Wayne Rooney serenades new flames Andy Carroll and Gary McAllister with a beautiful, tear-inducing rendition of 'Yesterday' before breaking into a Beatles medley (with a bit of Oasis thrown in at the end for good measure) in a bar in Barbados.

The year 2011 is seeing a lot of action at many levels of the game all over the world. The latest tournament to begin is the CONCACAF Under-17 Championship which takes place from today in Jamaica.

The tournament sees twelve teams split into four groups of three with the top two from each going through to the quarter-finals, at which point the tournament becomes a straight knockout.

After Jack Warner (Pres. CONCACAF) was suspended by FIFA pending full investigation acting Pres. Lisle Austin tried to suspend Chuck Blazer for accusing Warner. Blazer remains as General Secretary as the Pres. does not have the power to choose the Gen Sec.

Now Austin has been suspended, likely for his attempted power grab.

Clint Dempsey has a knack for big-game goals, especially to open competitions.
U.S. midfielder Clint Dempsey has now scored one goal in each of the CONCACAF Gold Cup opening games in which he has played, also scoring in the 2005 and 2007 openers. The goal in the opener against Canada last was the third of his Gold Cup career.

The Associated Press has the details:

NEW YORK (AP) -- The United States will open qualifying for the 2014 World Cup at home against Antigua and Barbuda on June 8.

The Americans, trying to qualify for their seventh straight trip to soccer's championship,
play at Guatemala on June 12, FIFA announced Wednesday.

The first official event for the 2014 FIFA World Cup takes places Saturday in Brazil with the Preliminary Draw, which fills in the blanks on the qualifying formats for each of the confederations participating in World Cup qualifying. A total of 203 member nations will compete for the 31 available spots to join with host Brazil.

Keon Daniel's tale of unfortunate events continued last night, as the Philadelphia Union player was substituted off in the 46th minute of Trinidad and Tobago's 4-0 win over Barbados.

The 25-year-old Daniel was unable to regain the form that he had found with the Union and carried over to the Trinidadian national team, before failing to impress in his start in Trinidad's 2-1 loss to Bermuda on October 7.

The two games slated for Thursday at the CONCACAF U-17 Championship have been moved from Catherine Hall to Jarrett Park.

The move impacts matches between Canada and Barbados, as well Guatemala and Trinidad & Tobago. The games will be played at 12:00 pm and 4:30 pm.
The U.S. will play it's second and final Group B game against Panama on Friday afternoon at Jarrett Park - the same place they picked up two wins against Jamaica during a recent training camp here.

Michael Petrasso scored three times and Keven Aleman twice to pace Canada to an 8-0 victory over Barbados on Thursday and earn it a place in the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Under-17 Championship after just one game played.
The result also ensured that Honduras will advance from Group D, while U-17 championship debutante Barbados was eliminated with its second loss in as many games.

I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that tonight is the 10th anniversary of the original Cold War match between the USA and Mexico. It was the first matchday of the 2001 Hexagonal and the USA had experienced a bruising semifinal round that saw them play in the steaming Guatemalan jungle, a hellish Saprissa environment, and a bumpy pitch in Barbados (just 25 minutes away from being eliminated!

The CONCACAF Congress has been taking place in Miami this week, and the proceedings have been dominated by the CONCACAF executive elections and the impending FIFA elections. To the surprise of no one, Jack Warner ran unopposed for a sixth term as CONCACAF President, and he was elected unaminously. The other positions on the executive committee were contested, and here are the results: CONCACAF VP North America: Justino Compeán (Mexico) CONCACAF VP Central America: Ariel Alvarado (Panama) CONCACAF VP Caribbean: Lisle Austin (Barbados) FIFA Executive Committee, Central American region: Rafael Salguero (Guatemala) The Executive Committee also approved its own expansion.

Liverpool U18s have arrived at Buccament Bay Resort for their week-long stay on the Caribbean island of St Vincent.
Rodolfo Borrell's 20-man squad enjoyed a relaxed eight hour journey from Gatwick airport to Barbados before concluding with a short 45 minute flight to their final destination.

FIFA's Ethics Committee banned Barbados Football Federation president Lisle Austin for one year on Wednesday. Austin was briefly the interim president of CONCACAF, before being provisionally suspended after attempting to fire general secretary Chuck Blazer without authority. He chose to challenge that suspension in court, getting an injunction to reinstate him from a Bahamas judge.

2014 Word Cup qualifying started off well for Tinidad and Tobago, with a 1-0 win over Bermuda beginning the process.

Philadelphia Union midfielder Keon Daniel started Trinidad's victory off on the bench, but was substituted into the game in the 36th minute of the game. Daniel replaced Khaleem Hyland well before the start of half time for reasons beyond a tactical change.

Trinidad and Tobago plays Barbados today at 4 pm and Keon Daniel may make his first start for the country as a member of the Philadelphia Union.

Daniel and Trinidad pulled out a close 1-0 win over Bermuda on a Kenwyne Jones goal in the 44th minute. Tobago was expected to pull well away from Barbados, but those expectations were not met.

Keon Daniel's 20th minute goal helped Trinidad and Tobago beat Barbados in the second round of 2014 World Cup qualifying. Daniel made his first start for the country in qualifying, after impressing in 54 minutes of Trinidad's 1-0 win over Bermuda last week.

Playing all 90 minutes, Daniel was a thorn in Barbados' side all game, pumping threatening corners into the box and on multiple occasions nearly combining with star striker Kenwyne Jones around the 18.

The U.S. contingent for this game is sporting two of the most famous midfielders in U.S. history in New Jersey natives Tab Ramos and Claudio Reyna, who each have appearances in three World Cups under their belts. They are joined by '98 World Cup captain Thomas Dooley. The trio was on the field together in two of three matches in France '98, and both Dooley and Reyna were in the lineup in the USA's opening game against Germany when their opponent's insurance goal was scored by a striker by the name of Jurgen Klinsmann.

PSP's preview of Saturday's Philadelphia Union v Portland Timbers also contained the news that Keon Daniel would be unavailable for that game.

The PSP has since learned that Daniel's unavailability stems from problems with the US Immigration Service.

Philly Soccer Page and Philly.com are reporting that Philadelphia Union midfielder Keon Daniel is unavailable for Saturday's game against the Portland Timbers due to visa issues.

Daniel's situation was originally reported on by Philly Soccer Page, who tweeted the information earlier today (via @PhillySoccerPg).

Earlier in the week, Keon Daniel started for Trinidad and Tobago in a World Cup Qualifier against Barbados.

According to a report out of Trinidad and Tobago, Philadelphia Union midfielder Keon Daniel has not been able to re-enter the USA since playing for the country's national team against Bermuda and Barbados.

Philadelphia Union midfielder Keon Daniel has once again been called up for Trinidad and Tobago's 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign.

Trinidad head coach Otto Pfister named Daniel as part of a preliminary group of sixteen players that will train in the country Monday and Tuesday of next week.

Despite Keon Daniel reportedly contracting Dengue Fever, the midfielder has made the trip with the Trinidad and Tobago National Team to Bermuda.

Trinidad flew to Bermuda on October 2, forgoing a practice that was originally planned on the same day in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Instead the national team will stay in the island country until their October 7, 2014 World Cup Qualifier.

CONCACAF nations play their fourth round games of the 2014 World Cup Qualifying season tonight, with one of the most important of those games being between Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados. The two island nations are competing for second place in CONCACAF Group B, as first place Guyana has all but wrapped up first place.
