It's been an eventful week, the performance against FC Twente was certainly an improvement, however
given the weakness of the opposition it's hard to get carried away. I was quite amused by some
banter from Mark Lawrenson on the box, he was ripping the piss out of Steve McLaren's new dutch
accent and what he may have said to his depressed players at half time, whatever he said it

When does humorous chanting in football stands become offensive?
It's a tricky one. And one that inevitably causes continuing debate.
Not least because society's understanding of the issues is changing all the time.
Take for example the continuing row about the 'Famine Song' popular with a number of Rangers
supporters.
The Premier League 2008/09 season kicks off in a mere 17 days. With anticipation filling your body
and excitement distracting you throughout the day, what are the seven things you must do before

- Buy your club's kit. If you're like me, you always need to have your favorite player on your
back, and we all know clubs exploit this each season.
David Bentley said in December of last year "I've a bit of banter with Becks. I tell him I'm
the new Becks and better looking. Some players are in awe of him but he's just Becks to me. "I
believe I should be in the England team instead of him. Any footballer [...]

services! Enjoy the banter in the comments? Then check out the new COS FORUM! Monaco forward Nene

Chelsea supporters are often mocked by their Liverpool and United counterparts for not having much
of a history, at least not a glorious one. It appears as though Manchester City fans may also be
directed with some of this banter, as the club set about trying to transform themselves from ...
Jamie Carragher is preparing himself for a hotter reception than ever at Goodison Park today after
lavishing praise on David Moyes but pouring scorn on Everton's supporters and hierarchy.
The long-serving Liverpool defender joined in the debate over Moyes' uncertain future by hailing
him as Everton's best manager for 20 years and describing the 'People's Club' tag he came up with
as a 'stroke of genius'.
Welcome one and all to my brand new blog: English Football Banter. Over the coming months (and
hopefully years) I'll be blogging about all the latest chat, banter, rumours and news from the
beautiful game here in England. I'm keen to here the views of football fans of all Englsih clubs
whether its one of the English Premiership's so called "big four" or a semi pro level
club.
Right off the bat, allow me to apologize for the lack of updates to this blog. What started out as
my launching pad into soccer journalism has evolved into a showcase for my work on Revsnet.com, and
the occasional informal mini-diatribe about global and local soccer.
Now, since my start at Revsnet, I've been trying to introduce some fresh flavors to this blog in
the hopes of keeping it flavorful (that is, if journalism can actually entice a sense of taste upon
one's tastebuds).
I'd like to get your valuable input on a couple of new ideas I'm interested in implementing to EPL
Talk. Over the past 12 months, the EPL Talk site has zoomed up the charts and you've posted 7,943
comments. As a result, I've taken down the message boards because the banter between you, the

It couldn't have ended any better, could it? I'm not talking about the final, which was both
sporadic in true quality and brimming with nastiness, I'm referring to where I watched it and the
people around me.
Perched precariously on the curb outside an Italian bar, in the Dutch city of Amsterdam, with a
couple of American guys on one side, a Spanish family on the other and a host of other assorted
nationalities milling around, I found myself in the middle of a great international event.
And then there were 8.
It is time for a little bit of reflection on last night's events.
Tuesday was as MLSNet.com put it: Open Cup Madness!
We are very happy to see the success of this year's Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.
It seems interest and coverage is the highest it has been since Bethlehem Steel F.
OK, so we've all dreamt of one day getting the chance to fill out the line-up card for our beloved
club. To some, talking about who should be starting has become the most common pub banter you'll
find today. But what if you were given the chance to figure out ...
Ferguson said that he did not expect to see "outstanding progress coming from a team in
their 30s". But Blues midfielder Ballack, 31, said: "Our team can still improve. If you
are 30 or 31 you are not old.
"Claude Makelele was 34 and played well last season. This sort of banter occurs between
people during the summer.

I thought it would be interesting to get people's thoughts on our starting eleven against
Middlesbrough.
I know there could be a player or two brought in by then and possibly Berbatov could be gone but
here's what I fancy.
GK Gomes
LB Bale
RB Hutton (probably won't be fit, maybe Zokora)
CB Woodgate
CB King (again, may not play this game, probably Dawson)
LM Lennon (Bale may play here and Ekotto at left back)
RM Bentley
CM Modric
CM Jenas
AM Giovani
CF Bent
I like the idea of Bent on his own up front in away games and Giovani playing in behind but I'm
worried about the strength of that midfield away from home.

After a gutty 2-0 win yesterday against Second-Choice Steve's FC Twente, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger
made it crystal clear that, while the win was fantastic, his team is still struggling in one major
area: depth. Enjoy the banter in the comments? Then check out the new COS FORUM! Arsene Wenger says

After hearing how badly you wanted a forum for, well, years, we thought the time was right to get

This week, The Jimmy Conrad Show will take on a new look, as usual play-by-play voice Sean Wheelock

Captain Kansas City for a little footie banter. Head down to McFadden's in the Power and Light
District for the show from 7-8, or listen to it live at kcwizards.
