The Kansas City Wizards have settled on a site for their new stadium and hope to be moving dirt as
early as next week, according to a letter sent from President Robb Heineman to the club's
supporters late last week. The chosen location for the 18,500-seat soccer-specific stadium is
Village West - a large retail, lodging and entertainment complex situated near the intersection of
interstates 435 and 70 just west of downtown Kansas City, Kansas, and just a stone's throw from
Kansas Speedway and the Wizard's temporary home, CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
We're not as against turf fields as many, but there is no doubt that MLS raises its stature and
increases its chance of success as a business (by attracting those who are put off by such fields),
when it converts to grass. Such is the case in Toronto, where Field Turf is no longer and grass
is on the way.
