Thailand's King's Cup will be held next January between the AFF Cup and the Asian Cup Qualifiers.
With the team going to Hanoi next month for the Agribank Cup new coach Peter Reid is hitting the
ground running.
The Thais have also appointed Tawan Siripin as Reid's assistant. Tawan was the first Thai player I
came across during the dream team era of the mid 90's and it's good to see his experience is being
put to good use.
I've not made it to a TPL game yet, it's a bit of a trek from my surburban Jakarta pad to Bangkok
don't you knwo, but these pictures from a recent game featuring PEA and Chonburi have certainly
whetted the appetite.
In a league where teams like TOT, KTB and PEA hardly roll off the toungue it is hardly surprising
that a club that appeals to a region is finding success both locally and regionally.
Chonburi is on the eastern seaboard of Thailand, a booming area of industrial parks and tourism.
Now they have secured a healthy dose of cash to develop their new stadium and raise their profile.
On June 7 2008, the Japan National Team had a match in the 3rd Qualifier of the FIFA World Cup 2010 against Oman. This was the same opponent as last week in Japan but this time it kicked off at 5:15 PM in Masqat, Oman. The weather was astonishingly humid and muggy and because [...]
The draw for the tournament was held today in Jakarta.
Initially there will be a qualification round in Phnom Penh featuring Philipines, Timor Leste,
Cambodia, Laos and Brunei. The top two will then join the six seeded teams and fight it out for the
AFF Championship in December.
Defending champions Singapore return to Indonesia who they beat in the the first leg of the
final 3-1 back in 2005 at a wet Bung Karno if I recall
Group A -
Indonesia, Singapore, Myanmar, 2nd Qualifier
Group B -
Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, 1st Qualifier
Two venues are to be used in Indonesia, Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta and Jaluk Harupat in Soreang,
West Java.
Bangkok has been hosting the ASEAN Futsal Championship which is nice. And pointless.
Most of the football associations in this part of the world are starved of funds for youth
development domestically, why are they spending a small fortune on sending teams overseas to play
in competitions?
The latest home defeat to a team from the Gulf, this time Bahrain, has meant the Thai national
team's World Cup qualifying hopes have all but disappeared. Played in extremely humid conditions
and in front of only a half-full Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok, the home side played all the
quality football but a lack of [.
The corruption trial of former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has begun in Bangkok, almost
two years after he was overthrown in a coup.
Taken from the Bangkok Post
Thai trio wait and see
TOR CHITTINAND
The selling of Manchester City to the Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment will
not immediately affect the three Thai players on the club's books, according to an associate of
former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
So good old Thaksin what's his name, the former Prime Minister of Thailand, is supposedly "on
the run" after a Thai court issued an arrest warrant for both him and his wife.
Why? Because they both skipped bail, failed to appear in court in Bangkok on Monday and high
tailed it to London instead.
