Hopefully (saying that with everything crossed mind you) John Terry will make his return to the
Chelsea team on Saturday and for me it couldn't come soon enough. Don't get me wrong, I believe we
are solid enough with Ivanovic and Alex (apart from the mistake last Sunday) but Terry being
in that back line, organising and being the voice is what has been missing for me.
Emile Heskey perhaps epitomises the recent state of the England squad. Slow, tired, unable to
find goals and the butt of the majority of jokes sent from phone to phone, laptop to laptop. Many
stats and figures have been passed around throughout his international career, the most relevant
perhaps being that goalkeepers Rene Higuita and Jose Luis Chilavert have scored more international
goals than Villas striker.
With that regrettable Boston Globe article out of the way and news just getting out that
disgraced goalkeeper Charles Itandje has finally left the club, let's move on to some other
newsworthy tidbits floating around the 'tubes in the wake of the Villa match:
* Let's get the not quite as good as the Itandje news but still good news news out
of the way first, as Lucas grabbed Liverpoolfc.
Bruno Labbadia Makes An Instant Impact As Stuttgart Coach.
Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart capped off their Europa League group stage fixtures with fine
results that lifted them to first-placed finishes in their respective groups. Leverkusen managed to
knock holders Atletico Madrid out of the tournament with a well-fought 1–1 draw, while Stuttgart,
under new management, thumped Odense by a score of 5–1.
Indonesia's progress through to the final of the AFF Cup has seen everyone jumping on the
Indonesian football bandwagon. Politicians, celebrities and even people you work with are suddenly
fascinated by the game and are clamouring for tickets, preferably free, while those who week in,
week out follow the likes of Persija and Persita are left on the sidelines wondering what all the
fuss is about.
