The term "Ultras" says it all: hardcore supporters at the edge, well above the norm of regular fan.
San Jose's Ultras are a band of brothers and sisters, and their roll call includes lawyers,
software engineers, union organizers, retail workers -- folks from all walks of life.
To paraphrase a quote from the end of "Band of Brothers" - 'It's been a long season; it's been a
tough season'.
Maybe I'll have deeper thoughts on this as the next couple of weeks go by, but, for now, here's a
list of the best and worst moments of the last few months. Let's get the horrible stuff out of the

MLS put the video above on its website to highlight the travel and passion that visiting fans are
willing to do in order to see their hometown team play as the rivals.
In a harsh setting, in which everybody else is rooting on the other team, it can be a lonely
experience.
A night to remember. A moment to savor. A season to endure. More, after the jump:
Defying Expectations

I regret to report that Richard "Dick" Winters has made his final jump - he has passed away after a
long illness. A quiet and humble man, Winters received a level of fame he wasn't used to after HBO
turned the Stephen Ambrose book Band of Brothers into an acclaimed mini-series in 2001.
Winters served as an officer in the 101st Airborne Division's 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment,
Easy Company.
