A new trialist has emerged for the Wellington Phoenix as they look to complete their A-League squad roster ahead of the August 1st deadline.

Indonesian international striker Bambang Pamungkas will arrive in Wellington later this week.

Indonesian striker Bambang Pamungkas has wrapped up his trial with the Phoenix and returned home to Jakarta.

"We thank Bambang for all his efforts during his trial with us and wish him all the best for his football career," Phoenix head coach Ricki Herbert said of the 30-year-old.

"We'll continue to scout Asia for potential Phoenix signings in the future because of the talent emerging from that region.

Oktavianus Maniani made many people sit up and take notice with many pacy performances for Persitara last season. Alas it was all in vain as his team got relegated but the 19 year old had done enough to earn a move to Cup winners Sriwijaya and even a call up to the national team. And it was his first half goal, a slow motion drive from about 12 yards, that gave Indonesia a first half lead.

When I first got to meet players closely here in Indonesia I would invariably ask which of their contemporaries did they admire the most. Invariably they would reel off a list of two or three names and the one name that appeared the most was Eduard Ivakdalam, the long serving inspirational captain of Persipura.

What a game this was. In a nutshell the first half was evens stevens. Hariono was able to keep a grip on Persija's attacks and the game flowed from end to end. Second half was a whole different ball game, Brain. Persija bossed the midfield with Syamsul and Oliver Markor first for everything. Down the left, Greg Nwokolo led poor Wildansyah a merry dance as Persija blitzed their bitter foes.

It's been a disappointing campaign thus far for Thailand in the ASEAN Football Federation Cup. The familiar old failing of not scoring has come back to haunt them big time and they go into their final group game against hosts Indonesia facing an unlikely elimination that could see the whole 'mai pen rai' culture erased from Thai media and message boards for the next few weeks at least.
