Just seen this story on some website. It has Birmingham City supposedly interested in Persija
striker Bambang Pamungkas.
How true it is remains to be seen. The article is lacking in things like quotes...lots of use of
the passive voice...
Indonesian international footballer, Bambang Pamungkas, is reportedly a target for Birmingham
City, newly promoted to the Premiership.

PSIS v Persela 0-1 (Charly)
Pelita Jaya v Persija 2-1 (Rudi Wibowo, Eduardo; Bambang Pamungkas)
Three straight wins for Pelita Jaya, hasn't happened for a while, effectively ended Persija's title
challenge this eveining. What will have delighted coach Fandi Ahmad was that this was achieved
without leading scorer Cristian Lopes who was suspended.
With some clubs having to forsake the highly paid foreign strikers it has been refreshing to see
local forwards getting among the goals. Primarily of course Persipura's Boaz Solossa. The lightning
quick wide man can play anywhere along the front and has long been considered a Papuan prodigy and
this season, despite missing much of the start, has shown what he can do with 26 goals so far,
second only behind some geezer called Cristian Gonazales.
Forget these pointless spectacles that see high profile English clubs swan around south east Asia
in their shell suits, shutting out the world with their i-Pods, what the region really needs is a
BPL Asian trophy like event featuring teams from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.
An expansion of last night's Selangor Cup, between Selangor and Persib, which attracted 40,000 fans
to the stadium as well as a spike in visitors to this here site as people sought to know more.
PETALING JAYA: The Red Giants will play against Indonesian club Persib Bandung in the inaugural
Selangor Cup football match at the Shah Alam Stadium on July 31.
The FA of Selangor (FAS) president, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that the Selangor Cup would
be an annual affair and future matches may feature world renowned clubs from Europe.
Rahmad Darmawan, the Sriwijaya coach who has led his side to three trophies in the last two
seasons, is considering his options regarding the two Asian players he can use to complete his
squad for next season.
Under the new regulations teams in the ISL can have three foreigners plus two Asian players.
Selangor v Persib 2-0 (Bambang Pamungkas 2)
Dunno how true it is mind...two first half goals by Indonesian striker, guesting for his former
club, gave the hosts yet another trophy in a bumper season for them.
Oh the delicious irony. A Malaysian club side defeats an Indonesian club side with two goals from
an Indonesian icon who is synonymous with the Indonesian side's bitterest rivals, Persija.

An Indonesian website has linked Persija striker Bambang Pamungkas with Malaysian side Selangor.
Even though the MSL has prohibited foreign players for this season. But does that ban apply also to
the Malaysia Cup?
Bambang has a successful spell with the Red Giants a few years back scoring 40 goals in one season.
This would be like Patrick Vieria, an Arsenal legend, signing for Spurs. Or Rangers signing Jimmy
Johnstone. Deals like this just don't happen in football. But stories have been rife over the last
couple of weeks that Persib Bandung would sign Persija striker Bambang Pamungkas.
Their coach, Jaya Hartono, has been quoted in the press as saying yes, he would like Bambang.
In an emotional article written on his personal website Persija & Indonesia striker Bambang
Pamungkas has given the background to all the rumours that surrounded him before he extended his
contract with Persija.
He admits that at one stage he was 80% sure he would sign for Sriwijaya but asked for more time to
consider.

Persija v Sriwijaya 3-4 (Bambang Pamungkas 2, Agus Indra Kurniawan; Ambrizal, Keith Kayamba 2)
Pity poor Persija as they lost the lead and made it five games winless. The break for the election
has really hit the Jakarta side as has the decision to play their home games far from their own
fans.
Persipura are champions of course and deservedly so. Some celebration is planned today at their
Mandala tadium in Jayapura when they host last season's champions Sriwijaya, coached by Rahmad
Darmawan who of course guided the Black Pearls to their 2005 title.
Second place is up for grabs with just goal difference seperating Persib and Persiwa.
With the Inter Island Cup cancelled, don't ask, Sriwijaya are scouting round for possible
friendlies and are looking to line up a game against Selangor from Malaysia. Earlier in the month
of course Sriwijaya defeated another Malaysian side, Perlis, 3-0 while last month Selangor beat
Persib 2-0, albeit with goals from guest Indonesian Bambang Pamungkas.
Persema v Persija 1-3 (Robbie Gaspar; Bambang Pamungkas 2, M Ilham)
Persiba v Sriwijaya 4-0
Persija went into this game minus Bambang Pamungkas and Mustafic Faruddin. They came out of it with
first choice keeper Yasri injured and questions about a defence that went missing.
Mustafic wasn't that much of a miss anyway. They just bypassed midfield. I saw Carresco walk on the
field. I saw him substituted on 51' but I never saw him in between.
Two goals from Bambang Pamungkas, his first a sweet finish early first half and the second a pen in
the second half but most of the action was off the field.
Lebak Bulus Stadium may only hold 12,500 and it may have three open terraces but when you have at
least 98% of the crowd signing non stop it generates some atmosphere believe you me.
Earlier in the season Persiba Balikpapan traveled to Persiwa Wamena with a weakened squad and lost.
Teams tend to lose there. Last season Persiwa won all 17 home games.
Tomorrow they play Persija and the side from Jakarta have decided not to risk players who are
carrying knocks. But in their case it means their first choice strike force.
I was talking with some Persija people over the weekend and only half jokingly I suggested that it
would be better if they stayed home rather than travel all the way to Wamena.
The logisitics itself are mind boggling. Jayapura is about a five or six hour flight from Jakarta
with a couple of stops thrown in for good measure.
