Cockney Irishman, ex Millwall stalwart, and now a respected columnist in the times today wrote a
rambling article about the importance of pace in, especially Theo's, game today. I think that this
is rather sad. That the difference isn't about how good your ball skills, which you have worked on
since when you were five, but about something that is innate to you; you were born with it.
The LB/Sideline View Readers vote for the 2008 Honda Player of the Year is in. I just sent my vote
over, about 11 hours before the polls close.
If our readers' opinions are any indications, a certain English-based player will win in a
landslide.
There were 26 first-place votes submitted - 18 of them were for Tim Howard.
FC Dallas has announced the acquisition of forward Jeff Rowland, who signed a senior developmental
deal with the club prior to Monday's roster freeze deadline.Rowland, 24, was selected second
overall in the 2006 MLS Supplemental Draft by Real Salt Lake, but never played a game for them
after tearing his right ACL in preseason.
Nick at We Want Rapid Man takes a look at Bouna's situation. The Denver Post also covers it here.
It looks to be headed down the same path that lead Herculez Gomez to Kansas City. Will things turn
around? Will we see Bouna in nets for the Rapids again? Or could we see him traded to a team
looking for a goalkeeper?
Your team just got handed the largest defeat in international competition of an MLS team to a
Caribbean side, ever..... in your home stadium.....But that doesn't mean you can't have your own
corner of the 'net (the kind that you don't have to worry about putting balls in).
We came across this tidbit:
Hello internet world.
A knee-jerk reaction to the Premierships 1st casualty. After their best start in 9 years, my
beloved West Ham have again made another balls-up by losing yet another manager. West Ham released
this Statement an hour a ago: "West Ham United can confirm that Alan Curbishley has tendered
his resignation as manager and that it has been accepted.
On paper a home game against Premiership newbies Hull City should an easy three points. But life
isn't paper and the reality is that Hull will not come to the Emirates and lay down.
They have a manager in Phil Brown who is basically a Sam Allardyce clone. He will have seen the
problems that Bolton caused us under Fat Sam and will try to replicate them.
All the speculation going around this week was whether star man Nicklas Bendtner was
going to be fit or not for his native Denmark. In the end he shaked off a knock on his ankle to
start on his own upfront. In a drab first half Bendtner had hardly no service and Denmark resulted
into long balls [.
The Eurpoean Socceroos looked good in nice cool conditions. They were a goal down early but still
in the game. As we know the Dutch are a million miles away from their 1970s total domination, Total
Football days, now they play the long balls to the speedy wingers just like the Roar...
The Socceroos were probably lucky to win the penalty, but it highlights how protected Mark Bosnich
is given (see last weeks Roar v CCM) their goalie was given a red in a friendly - and Kennedy had
already missed the ball.
Bring Back The Fun At a time when entertainment in football has somewhat gone from the game,
England have had one miserable manager after another. The team of Galaticos have mirrored this
trend and now resemble the one single person at a wedding. Bored, nervous and dying to get their
balls played with.
It's a sobering thought, but evils like this exist everywhere.
Here's a particularly striking passage from MDS's post over at FanHouse:
After past scandals about soccer ball companies using child labor, many companies
started putting labels on their balls that say the balls weren't made with child
labor.
No comments from me tonight on the game. We're in LA all day tomorrow and will leave for
Honduras first thing Monday morning. Things aren't going to slow down, that's for sure. Here are
your post-game comments. You can see highlights of the game here.
D.C. UNITED HEAD COACH TOM SOEHNOn the match: "They had a lot of life.
It started promising for Arsenal; great passing football, a constant threat to score; but the first
half ended goalless.
One of Theo Walcott's runs came off in the second half, and Cesc was there to tap it in, although
it ended up being an own goal (it almost looked like Cesc got a touch).
FC Dallas coach --and published author-- Schellas Hyndman is not afraid to take a kick to the
groin. He is also unafraid to take your questions. He'll be chatting live on ESPN.com at 3p.m. EST
today, so feel free to ask him how grateful he is for Bob Bradley's reluctance to further cap Kenny
Cooper and exactly what type of steel his balls are made of.
Yep, after a long hard day in the sun, is there anything better than a cool pint of Becks. The
taster, texture and refreshments it provides is perfection. Although I o not understand it, there
slogan is 'different by choice.' David Beckham is also different from any other player in the
England squad.
In Wednesday's World Cup qualifier England dismantled a strong Croatian side. Wayne Rooney provided
Theo Walcott with 2 superb balls which Theo converted and also netted a goal himself. The match was
not expected to be so lopsided after Croatia showed extremely well in Euro 08. Croatia went
undefeated in their group before being eliminated in [.

Off the corner kick, Roberto Juárez connects with a beautiful downward header, but the
Marathon 'keeper is well positioned and the ball rebounds off his body.
United's season continued to splutter along blinking and a little confused last night as they
were held 0-0 by an organised and well drilled Villarreal side. United and Fergie can be happy with
the way the game was played as the disappointing final balls were getting fewer and far between and
chances were created as the game went on.
Well, I almost wish still kicking had not invited me to write the blog while he is enjoying his
weekend, because, at the end of it all there were very few positives to write about. Really, there
was nothing in this game that hasn't been in a number of other road games. Poor defending, rash
challenges, ineffective passing, inadequate attacking were all features of this 2-0 loss to Kansas
City.
Sometimes it only takes one player to turn a game from an almost genial affair, to your typical
men's game complaint session. We're winding down the adult leagues as well, and the men's playoffs
are right around the corner, and even though both of these two teams are inside the playoff zone
(and presumably would like to stay there), the first half was downright nice - although I could see
one person who could, if he wanted, light the fuse that could turn it it into something nasty.

Iain Dowie failed to his disappointment, as the R's slipped to their first home defeat of the
campaign.
Second half goals from Martin Albrechtsen and Emanuel Villa handed Derby County victory in W12, on
an afternoon when Dowie's men failed to fire following their midweek victory against Aston Villa in
the Carling Cup.
