The two groups have been drawn for Asia's final round of World Cup Qualification. Each group has
five teams with the top two from each group advancing to South Africa. The third place teams in the
groups will meet in a two-legged playoff with the winner playing the champion of Oceania.
Here are the two groups:
Group A
Australia
Japan
Bahrain
Uzbekistan
Qatar
Group B
South Korea
Iran
Saudi Arabia
North Korea
UAE
Although both groups have their difficulties, it looks to me like Group B is the tougher one since
three of the teams made it to Germany in 2006 (S Korea, Iran & Saudi Arabia), plus North Korea is
always capable of a surprise.
Group A:Singapore,Bahrain,Iran,Uzbekistan Group B:Korea Republic,India,Indonesia,Syria Group
C:China,Australia,Turkmenistan,Saudi Arabia Group D:Japan,Malaysia,UAE,Yemen Our boys have been
drawn alongside giants Bahrain,Iran and Uzbekistan.I think we are in the hardest group of all.The
team will be training in Japan to toughen up themselves for the competition.

Today sees the final day of the ASEAN Under 16s that have been held in Jakarta over the last week
or so. They have been a lot of fun with some quality football produced by the kids.
No surprise really that the final features Australia and Bahrain but only seconds came between
Malaysia and the Aussies.
We do not want Uzbekistan.
The draw is on Fox Sports at 7pm.
A shocking draw would be Australia, Iran, Japan, Uzbekistan and North Korea.
A great draw would be Australia, Iran, Bahrain, Qatar and North Korea or UAE.
TASHKENT – Bahrain registered their first win in this year's AFC U-16 Championship with a 3-0

Once again, our collection of really fun things that we can't just throw away, but which weren't
quite important enough to give them their own posts: The loneliness of being Arsene This photo was
apparently from Friday, the day before the all-important Arsenal game against Manchester United.
Rough week for Arsene, but at least he [.
Group: Australia, Japan, Uzbekistan, Qatar and Bahrain. Schedule: Uzbekistan (A), Qatar (H),
Bahrain (A), Japan (A), Uzbekistan (H), Qatar (A), Bahrain (H), Japan (H) Other Group: Korea
Republic, Iran, Saudi Arabia, North Korea and United Arab Emirates. Australia hasn't been handed an
easy draw but it also isn't the hardest group possible either.
They are all groups of death.
Group 1 Australia Japan Uzbekistan Bahrain Qatar
In the last round, Qatar beat Iraq and Bahrain beat Japan. Finishing top two will be a mean feat
and even top 3 commendable (for the playoff v New Zealand (or other Oceania?). Japan v Australia is
always going to be close.

Kedah and Perak go into these crucial games with severe handicaps. Perak's financial woes have been
well publicised while both teams will be without their foreign players who can no longer play in
Malaysia.
On June 7 2008, the Japan National Team had a match in the 3rd Qualifier of the FIFA World Cup 2010 against Oman. This was the same opponent as last week in Japan but this time it kicked off at 5:15 PM in Masqat, Oman. The weather was astonishingly humid and muggy and because [...]
With only one place still to be decided, Iraq or Qatar, time to look at the Aussie path to South
Africa. Australia. South Korea, Iran, Saudia Arabia, Japan, Uzbekistan, North Korea, Bahrain, UAE
are all through.
With Australia seeded one, with luck we could be up against Iraq assuming they beat Qatar, Bahrain,
North Korea and Japan.
Australia made hard work of beating a determined Bahrain side after falling behind in the first
half.
Only a penalty needlessly given away by the lanky Bahraini number 24, sorry without a team sheet
I'm kinda clueless about names, and calmly slotted away by number 6 gave the Joey's three valuable
points after an aimless second half where perhaps the players wilted in the Jakarta heat.
Remember last year during the Asian Cup hosted here? During one of the games at Bung Karno there
was a power outtage for about 20 minutes which really showed Indonesia in a good light.
Now we're in the power cut season again with various areas of Jakarta and its neighbours will be
working in the dark for periods of several hours.
The latest home defeat to a team from the Gulf, this time Bahrain, has meant the Thai national
team's World Cup qualifying hopes have all but disappeared. Played in extremely humid conditions
and in front of only a half-full Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok, the home side played all the
quality football but a lack of [.
Big smile on my face right now !
In the end the draw was not prefect but it isn't far from it. As the young lady from the AFC was
preparing to select the teams from the final pot tonight I looked at the two groups and said a
quick little prayer for Group A. And it seems for once the God of Draws smiled upon us.
The final round of Asian World Cup qualifying has been set. The round will last from September 2008
through June 2009. Group One:

Where to begin?
I never thought I would ever hear myself saying I was looking forward to seeing Malaysia play
Bahrain in an Under 16. But said it I did and I was not disappointed. The respective coaches may
be, the referee may be and AFF maybe but I wasn't. I may never watch another Manchester United v
Liverpool game as long as I live but this was a good old fashioned classic that knocks spots off
any East Lancs clash I've seen.
When I read the venues scheduled for the next phase of World Cup qualifying, I thought fantastic,
two games in Sydney against Uzbekistan and Bahrain. I was a bit disappointed that the biggest
fixture, the game against Japan, will be in Melbourne. Still, 100,000 packed into the MCG will be a
sight to behold.
Japan won away 3-2 in Bahrain, and in the big news Aussie opponents on Thursday our time Uzbekistan
got flogged 3-0 by Qatar!
Fantastic result for Australia. Given we comfortably disposed of Qatar, if we can get a decent
result in Tashkent on Thursday we could be off to a flyer.
Putting ourselves and Japan firmly in the driving seat for South Africa, even at this early stage.
With the team's 3-0 victory over Thailand, Japan advanced into the 4th round of the Asian Football
Confederation's qualifying stage for the 2010 World Cup. Only 4 or 5 nations from Asia will qualify
for the next World Cup that will be held in South Africa.
Joining Japan in the 4th round so far are the nations: Australia, Bahrain, both Koreas, Uzbekistan,
Saudi Arabia, and Iran.
