Half term is here for the respective clubs and divisions around the world. Its the time for clubs
to stock up on essential supplies and get some popcorn for the exciting last few months of the
season. These last few months are hugely significant for every single team, whether its the need to
hold on to top spot, the mad dash for the play offs, or to consolidate their spot in the league
itself.
West Brom are a team that I respect. I'd even say I like them and will support them in their
quest to avoid relegation. They are a team that deserves to do well in the Premier League. I feel
this way because the Baggies are a team that tries to play football the right way. They fight hard,
but not dirty; they try to defend well, exploit set-pieces, shoot from distance – but they don't
intentionally foul goalkeepers, or kick opposition players, and their manager is not a scumbag.
Robert Koren has admitted he was surprised that West Brom decided not to keep him at The Hawthorns.
The Baggies confirmed earlier on Monday they were releasing Koren after opting against taking up
the further year's option on his contract. It was expected West Brom would keep hold of the
attacking midfielder as they prepare for life back in the Premier League, but Baggies boss Roberto

Following their promotion from the Championship at the end of last season, West Bromwich Albion
have revealed their new Umbro home and away kits for the 2010/11 Barclays Premier League season.
According to the Baggies' website: Both shirts sport the logo of new principal club sponsor
HomeServe, highlighting the home emergency repair expert's new phone [.
First of all, who in their right minds would offer Liverpool's French striker David Ngog an
astronomical salary for £2 million per year? According to The Mirror, the player is
holding out for that particular amount, which is why it comes as no surprise that Reds boss Roy
Hodgson is having difficulty offloading the player.
So, the first round of games has been completed.
And for what it's worth, here are my thoughts...
Didier Drogba is the best striker in the world.
Yes, Chelsea's opponents in the 6-0 win at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening may not have been
the best AND they may well continue their 'yo-yo' status and drop out of the league at the end of
the season.
Although Frank Lampard was publicly declared as a doubt by Carlo Ancelotti the day before
Chelsea's seasoner opener at home to West Bromwich Albion, few outside the club knew that it was
more than just a knock bothering the 32-year old midfielder.
The general perception was that Lampard was suffering from fatigue after England's midweek
friendly against Hungary and subsequently aggravated his condition during a training session on
Thursday.
Serbian defender Branislav Ivanovic has returned for Chelsea at the right-back position as the
only change from the side that defeated West Bromwich Albion 6-0 last weekend.
Paulo Ferreira had started that fixture for Carlo Ancelotti's Blues but with Ivanovic returning
to full fitness, the Portuguese international slides to the bench for the clash against Wigan.
T-hee-hee-shirt Notts County striker Lee Hughes was left with egg on his chin as well as marker pen
on his t-shirt as his goal celebration stunt backfired. The West Brom legend was given a torrid
time by Wolves fans on his first return to Molineux since his heyday with the Baggies. The
34-year-old must have [.
In the sixth round of fixtures in this Barclays Premier League season, things took quite a
shocking turn. Saturday's theme appeared to be upsets as the underdogs hit back at the expense of
their significantly more fancied counterparts.
The day's action began at Eastlands where Carlos Tevez inspired Manchester City to pick up a 1-0
win over defending champions Chelsea.
Congratulations to West Brom today after a hard fought victory against the Gooners.
Believe it or not, this is the first away win the Baggies have recorded in 19 Premier League
matches.
So it this finally the West Brom team to combat the yo-yo label that has riddled the side for
the History of the Premiership?
Wenger sees the afternoon crumble against West Brom
The plan was clear. To maximize points in the easier stretch of games before the big showdown
with Chelsea. The West Brom match was a clear opportunity to win three points. An golden
opportunity for the Gunners to vault to the top of the table following Chelsea's loss against Man
City.

Despite what the tabloids may tell you, Roberto Di Matteo is the manager for West Bromwich
Albion. However, he isn't all that different from Man City manager Roberto Mancini. Both
played for Italy (Di Matteo: 44 caps. Mancini: 36). Both played for Lazio for a solid three
seasons.
With another round of international fixtures over, the focus again returns to the Premier League
and Manchester United host West Brom at Old Trafford in game that will be far from an easy
victory.
United's form of late has been very patchy with successive away draws but at home a 100% record
is in tact.
Hello and welcome to EPL Talk's new weekly Fantasy League tips column. If you are constantly
experiencing selection problems ahead of the weekends fixtures this is the column for you
(hopefully!). Every week I will do my best to not only pick out the weeks potential points grabbers
but also suggest who might benefit from a weekend of bench warming.
Blackpool may have got their first home league win in the Premier League after they edged past West
Brom. But the 2-1 win was a lot closer than many would have expected after the Baggies were reduced
to ten men during the first half.
While many would have predicted a very comfortable win for the hosts, what followed was an
incredibly spirited display that really sums up the attitude of Roberto Di Mateo's side since their
return to the Premier League.
Well it's not really a bag anymore and we're not even through to the 4th Round yet, but former
Chelsea man Paul Elliott and comedian and Baggies fans, Frank Skinner between them managed to 'bag'
Newcastle a difficult away tie should we overcome Plymouth in our 3rd Round replay. Assuming we can
beat Plymouth next week [.
This game is pretty damn huge. Sky must be delighted that a game they picked some time ago has
taken on this level of significance a real test of our still unreal-seeming push for a top two
place. The Baggies are two points ahead of us, and also have a game in hand, so [...]
Nottingham Forest continued their fine unbeaten run with a fine away win at the Hawthorns. Goals
from Forest trio Blackstock, Majewski and Chris Cohen put the County Ground side three nil up
before Roman Bednar pulled one back for the Baggies.

Brilliant result for Forest at the Hawthorns and one that really backs up their promotion
credentials; Billy Davies is doing a terrific job and I really hope he takes them back to the Prem
it's been far too long since Forest were in the top flight.
When Billy Davies was Derby County manager in 2007, The Times described him as "an old-school
scrapper who could make copper wire from a row about a penny." Well whatever he is, its working. In
little more than a year under the guidance of the diminutive Scotsman who makes Gianfranco Zola
look like a beanstalk, Nottingham Forest are completely unrecognisable from the two-bit rickshaw of
a side they were before Davies took over - a team that won just twice in 19 league games under
Colin Calderwood and were slumped near the bottom of the league.
Newcastle United take on West Bromwich Albion in a crucial top of the table encounter on Monday
night at St James Park. With the Toon drawing the Baggies in the FA Cup 4th round, the two teams
are forced to play each other twice in the space of six days. We will be looking to extend [...]
The Baggies just about deserved to win this gripping top-of-the-table clash, as they repeatedly
exposed Newcastle's hitherto solid defence on the counter-attack. The Toon twice came back from
being a goal down, with Danny Guthrie's excellent free-kick and then a Peter Lovenkrands header
replying to goals by the impressive Jonas Olsson and Roman Bednar; Lovenkrands dedicated the goal
to his late father, who died last week.
Liverpool under-18s were left hugely frustrated after being held to a goalless draw with West Brom
at the Academy on Saturday afternoon.
Rodolfo Borrell's side followed up their impressive display at Manchester City last week with
another good showing but could not find that elusive winning goal as the Baggies escaped with a
somewhat fortuitous point.
Heartbreak was the order of the weekend for many Scandinavians and it came in different forms.
From last minute goals to gut wrenching injuries, another exciting weekend of football gripped the
imagination of all involved.
Whatever must John Carew be feeling. The Norwegian levelled matters for Aston Villa as they
visited Chelsea.
In England football is a game played and watched predominantly by men. Whilst the number of
women playing, watching and following the sport is rising, few can argue that the derivative
culture of English Football is male orientated.
Whilst I am not going to lecture or romanticise on the male working class routes of the game,
behaviours prevalent in these environments can be seen and heard across every football ground in
England on match day.

Newcastle's win over Forest on Monday has made the run-in to promotion a lot easier for The
Baggies. The end of the regular season can't come quick enough for Leicester. Having lost their
last three games, their grip on a play-off spot is getting weaker and weaker.
With three games remaining it comes down to two away games and one home game. Th first of the
two games on the road is at West Brom this evening as Boro will attempt to regain some pride
against the Baggies having been thrashed 5-0 at the Riverside by Di Matteo's side earlier in the
season.

Bit of breaking news for you here folks. West Brom have turned down West Ham's written bid of
around £4 million for their influential midfielder Graham Dorrans.
The former Livingston man has had an outstanding season for The Baggies this term, contributing
18 goals from midfield, and has been a driving force behind the club's automatic promotion to the
Premier League.
There were doubts surrounding the future of Gary O'Neil when Gordon Strachan was ordered to
withdraw the player from the squad in a couple of the last remaining games of the season. A
transfer agreement with Portsmouth, O'Neil's former club, stated that if the player was to reach
the 100 appearance mark then Boro would have to pay Pompey an extra £1million on top of the
original fee paid in 2007 which was around £4million.
Bournemouth 0 4 Tottenham Hotspur
Roman Pavlyuchenko starred in Spurs routing of League 1 side Bournemouth, scoring two goals and
assisting another. Robbie Keane made his return to the side after finishing last season on loan at
Celtic, but failed to find the net in his limited first-half appearance.
West Bromwich Albion FC are today's team to have their Premier League credentials examined. The
side who have bounced between the divisions in recent seasons, had an impressive campaign last term
in Roberto Di Matteo's first season in charge. The manager is not a former player you would have
picked to have taken up the mantle of being the boss, but he has done, and with good success.

Venue : Stamford Bridge, London
The English Premier League match between Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion will take place at
Stamford Bridge on Saturday, 14th August 2010, kick-off is set for 5:30 PM.
Well, that was lovely. Absolutely.
A quick look
• Biggest opening-day result in club history.
• Chelsea's total of 14 goals in consecutive league matches eclipses the previous record of 13
set in Oct/Nov 1997 by Manchester United. Bueno.
• Last three home games: Chelsea 21, opposition 0.
Chelsea inflicted the heaviest defeat of any opening day in the Premiership as they swept aside
newly promoted West Brom, 6-0. The defending champions could not have asked for a more emphatic
statement of intent.
It was a horrible day for Scott Carson who looked like Lukasz Fabianski with hands of butter and
constantly caught out of position.
Chelsea 6 0 West Bromwich Albion
It's fairly safe to say that no one saw that coming. Of course we all knew Chelsea were
going to win, but no one knew it was going to be such a tonking. West Brom are a newly promoted
side, but they're not shite... well, we used to think they weren't.
Nigerian striker Peter Odemwingie insists that he's ready to work hard for Premier League outfit
West Bromwich Albion as the club aims to stop the trend of successful promotions and relegations.
Instead, the Baggies are trying to find a way to stay in the top flight, and Odemwingie's exciting
tenacity and skill should help them improve.
As 4,000 Blackpool fans roared their side on in a sea of tangerine at Wigan Athletic, it seems
that last weekend's 4-0 victory will not be the only moment to savour for Ian Holloway's men this
season. The seaside club are ironically enough in a fantastic position of being favourites to lose
every week.
West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo has not ruled out a renewed bid for Ireland
international Marc Wilson but he admits that it will be difficult to force a deal when Portsmouth
are not willing to sell their most promising player.
Pompey boss Steve Cotterill revealed last week that his club had rejected a bid from the Premier
League Baggies for his County Antrim born captain, with skysports.
Liverpool will be desperate to build on Thursday's Europa League play-off triumph over Trabzonspor
by recording their first win of the 2010-11 Premier League season against newly-promoted West
Bromwich Albion on Sunday.
Reds fans will undoubtedly still be reeling after the club's dismal 3-0 defeat to Manchester City
in their last league outing, although the 2-1 win out in Turkey, without influential twosome Steven
Gerrard and Fernando Torres, will have helped repair the damage.
