More dour faces than you can shake a stick at West Brom supporters are marking their return to
Championship football with a public display of confidence in manager Tony Mowbray. Instead of
adopting the traditional fancy dress theme, Baggies fans will wear lifelike masks of Mowbray.
Almost 2,000 Albion fans are expected to put on Mowbray [.
West Bromwich Albion have returned to the Football League Championship for the 2009/10 season
following their relegation from the English Premier League. Given their recent success in the
second tier of English soccer, a prompt return to the Premiership is certainly a possibility.
Today, the Baggies unveiled their new Umbro home kit for the 09/10 season.
Without the title to play for, you wouldn't have blamed Liverpool for approaching the West Brom
game a little on the lacsidasical side, after their bubble was well and truly burst 24 hours
prior. A West Brom side with Premier League survival at stake, they did indeed try and take the
game to Liverpool; however it was the Reds who's class told over the course of 90 minutes.
Can Gareth Southgate keep Boro up? 25 goals in 35 games says he can't.
With West Brom's unfortunate defeat at White Hart Lane yesterday, the Baggies are all but
relegated with 28 points from 35 games leaving them 6 points behind Hull City - with the
Yorkshiremen having a game in hand. Barring a miracle, Tony Mowbray's outfit will be playing
Championship football next season, but who will join them?
So the Premier League is done and dusted for another season. It's been emotional. Here are some of
OTP's favourite moments of 08/09. Mike Riley sends off Frank Lampard (Spongebob edition) 1. Getting
banned from sponsoring poor West Brom We tried to help out the poor plain-shirted Baggies, but the

No, sadly not Canberra, not yet..but Burton Albion.
I was born in the Brewing Capital of the World, surrounded by Brian Clough League Champs Derby
County, European Cup winners Aston Villa, and Notts Forest, and the super Baggies of the
1980's.
Burton is just eight miles from Derby, 21 from Nottingham, 25 from Birmingham, 30 Stoke, 25
Leicester, 25 West Brom, 25 Wolves so plenty of local football around over the years.

Will Hull City fans be cheering in the Prem next season?
Baseball Hall of Famer Yogi Berra once said, "it's getting late early."
That's certainly true of this year race to avoid relegation at the bottom of the Premiership
table.
Newcastle and Middlesbrough are in 18th and 19th place, respectively, and both are three points
adrift of safety, where Hull City is currently holding on for dear life in 17th.
The penultimate weekend of the season provoked plenty of Right Result activity at the top and
bottom of the table.
Manchester United's day just about went to plan as they secured their 11th Premier League title
with a nil-nil draw against Arsenal. It wasn't without a few jitters before the end of the game at
Old Trafford, but such concerns should have been avoided.
So that's it. For a couple of months at least.....
The climax to another Premier League season saw Newcastle and Middlesbrough join the Baggies in
the Championship next season.
No surprise really, as Boro would've needed a miracle to stay up, which was never really going
to happen, especially once West Ham took the lead.

This was the first league win for the Bluebirds at West Brom since 1957. Goals by Chris Burke
(18) and Peter Whittingham (85 pen) did the damage. The other talking point was the red card shown
to West Brom goalkeeper/skipper Scott Carson in the second half, for a head butt on Michael
Chopra.
When Roy Keane walked out of the Stadium of Light back in December, they had 15 points from 15
games. He'd become exasperated as his expensively recruited side simply hadn't gelled as quickly as
he'd hoped and felt he couldn't inspire them from the insipid performances they'd shown, especially
in his last game in charge, the 4-1 home defeat to Bolton Wanderers.

Its been all bad news for drop zone clubs this weekend.
Stoke started it off by losing to the Hammers, the Baggies lost to Spurs, Portsmouth came a
cropper to the young guns of Arsenal, Boro did not dent Man Utd's title hopes, Newcastle's misery
continued with a loss to Liverpool.
The Sunderland - Everton match is tied 0-0 at half time and Hull meet Villa tomorrow.
It become an almost weekly occurrence throughout the season.
After each and every defeat Tony Mowbray, West Brom's beleaguered manager, has been forced to
batter away suggestions from the baying press that his side should change their style of play in
order to compete in the division.
It's May, which can only mean one thing. Every single match around the country is important for
every single team in the world's greatest league. Today saw the bulk of games, and here are the
winners and losers from Saturday's action.
Winners Stoke City
Stoke City weren't just winners on the scoreboard, but they also clinched safety in the English
Premier League for at least another year.
News leaking this afternoon, and it has been alledged that the West Brom striker, Roman Bednar,
bought cocaine and cannabis hours after a Premier League game.
Reports from the News-of-the-World newspaper, suggest Bednar bought drugs from a car outside
his home in Sutton Coldfield, hours after West Brom beat Wigan in the Premier League, where Bednar
was an unused sub.
And little is left to be decided. Manchester United have clinched the title, West Brom are down,
Boro are almost down... a slightly anticlimactic final weekend will see Hull, Newcastle and
depending on tonight's result Sunderland fighting it out to stay in the Premier League, Everton and
Villa competing for fifth, and Spurs and Fulham battling to see who won't put out a full side in
the Europa League next season.
Will there be joy or pain in Middlesbrough come Monday?
This is it.
Match day 38 has arrived, and with it comes the promise of Premier League salvation or the gloom
of a forced descent into the Championship.
Here's what we know
Manchester United own the championship trophy, while Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal will be
joining them in varying stages of the Champions League in 2009-2010.

Newly promoted Birmingham City are apparently in the transfer market for experienced former
Scotland midfielder Barry Ferguson. The 31 year old Rangers star has been the talk and indeed
target of a large number of clubs south of the border including relegated West Bromwich Albion -
especially following the controversial moments that occurred for the player earlier in the season.
Can't you take a hint?
Mr Ashley, the season is less than a week away and your club looks in more of mess than ever.
This must be the worse of worse nightmares for every Newcastle fan no manager, poor players and no
buyer in sight. The talk of failed takeover after failed consortium hinders any sale of Newcastle
United Football Club as the season lays a week away from the first challenge at The Hawthorns, in
the shape of promotion hopefuls West Bromwich Albion.
Normal service resumes this Saturday when finally the new football league season kicks-off! No
more Saturdays wondering round Bluewater or at some random friends BBQ, cos ladies and gents
football is back! And what an interesting season the Championship throws up this campaign, with
quite possibly the most evenly matched league there's ever been.
A corker of a game at the Hawthorns where the Baggies overcame League Two Rotherham in extra
time.

19.30 Schalke 04 v Eintracht Frankfurt, Bundesliga, ESPN
An intriguing one this. While Schalke lie fourth, they desperately need to improve matters at home
having lost five of their last six matches at the Veltins-Arena. United, meanwhile, are unbeaten on
their travels, picking up seven points from a possible nine so far this season.
The majority of football fans think West Brom are going to be back playing Championship football
again and I'm in that majority but they have 12pts left to play for and while it's still
mathematically possible for them to stay up, I'm sure they will put up a hell of a fight.
West Brom's 3-0 victory over Sunderland last weekend was arguably their best performance of the
season and will give them a lot of going into the game at White Hart Lane.
It become an almost weekly occurrence throughout the season.

While this weekend could be the last stand for West Brom, there are four other key battles on
show
I have spent this morning perusing the remaining fixtures for the relegation threatened
teams and it appears that everything seems to point to the round of matches starting Saturday 9th
May to Monday 11th May.

West Brom: A season of Ifs, Buts, Maybes and Not Quites for The Baggies this season, but it was
nevertheless extremely entertaining. Tony Mowbray will not leave, nor should he, and he has created
a side who played some of the most exciting football this season.
The sun did indeed shine at the Emirates. Normally we start shakily, sometimes even giving the
opposition a headstart. Not yesterday however, we scored 4 inside 45 minutes and Stoke were
thoroughly demolished.
To put perspective on this result however, Stoke were safe and virtually had nothing to play for
apart from the possibility of more prize money if they finished in 11th position instead of 12th.
The final day of the Barclays Premier League season saw Newcastle United and Middlesbrough join
West Bromwich Albion in the second tier of English Football. Sunderland and Hull City narrowly
avoided such fates and will now hope to build on retaining their top flight statuses. Relegation
from the Premier League has never guaranteed an immediate return.
It took a while but the vacancy has now been filled!
Celtic have confirmed Tony Mowbray as their new manager after a deal was concluded with
West Brom.
Mowbray arrives from the club relegated from the Premier League in England along with assistant
Mark Venus and first-team coach Peter Grant.
Tony Mowbray's men have it all to do as his side collapsed at home in this Champions League
qualifier.

Old Foes
My attention on Saturday evening was drawn to the Coca-Cola Championship, or Division 2 as it
was called up until BSkyB came along, and the clash between recently relegated West Bromwich Albion
and Ipswich Town. Roberto Di Matteo and Roy Keane faced each other as players on numerous occasions
during their careers, with one particular incident in the Charity Shield in 2000 leading to one of
the 11 red cards Keane received during his Manchester United career.

When the Carling Cup Round 3 draw was first made, it was very difficult to
imagine West Bromwich Albion providing much of a competition to
Arsenal at The Emirates. Granted, Arsene Wenger
uses the competition to provide some first-team action to his reserves, but even those teenagers
usually prove to be a handful for the opponents.
