Football is without doubt the biggest, most stupid sport in the history of the planet. The
unthinkable regularly happens like a London bus timetable. And not just on the pitch, but also
behind the scenes.
You probably live and are reading this article on Mars if you haven't yet heard the 'new' Wayne
Rooney rumour.
Not sure how many of you saw this or not, but there's a new initiative designed to increase
investment in and influence over the club. For a number of reasons, I have to say I'm
skeptical:
The program is called Arsenal Fanshare, and it's an initiative launched by the people at the
Arsenal Supporters' Trust.

Like father, like son?Mo Johnston must have the shakes and the cold sweats right now. The Scot has many detractors but
those who do back him use his record in the MLS SuperDraft as a defence. However, with a few days
to go before the 2010 draft, where he is supposed to show his wily eye for talent, Johnston and his
TFC "backroom" (about two guys and a some NCAA DVD's) do not have a first round pick and only a
couple of late choices at their disposal.

-It is with great disappointment that I have to confirm that Neil Warnock, Keith Curle and
Mick Jones have today left Crystal Palace FC to join QPR.
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is remaining tight-lipped on talk linking him with a switch to
Juventus.
Widespread reports in Italy claim Juve have made Benitez their top target to take over from interim
boss Alberto Zaccheroni this summer.
It has been suggested Juventus are prepared to offer Benitez a lucrative contract and hefty
transfer war chest to lure him to Turin.
Or Making It Up As We Go Along
The Big 8 play offs featurning the top two in each Premier League Division and two best of the
rest, have still not been finalised. Instead of going ahead next weekend in Sidoarjo (?) and Bone
(!) the games have been put back a couple of weeks for the not alltogether unreasonable excuse that
the teams haven't been finalised.
A couple of things from recent Wenger pressers today:
First, Wenger has come out and said that he was "very disappointed" in Arshavin for his recent
comments regarding Barcelona. Remember, Arshavin said that playing just a single season for Barca
would be the "pinnacle" of his career. Wenger said:
"Yes, I am very disappointed because he shows a completely different attitude.
A couple of stories today on what is otherwise a relatively slow news day:
As expected, Fran Merida's agent has confirmed that he will sign with Atletico Madrid. As he is
under the age of 24, and was offered a new contract by us, we will be entitled to some kind of
compensation from Atletico.
I know I'm a few days late on this, but eleven Arsenal players will be playing in South Africa
starting next week:
I gave a more thorough breakdown of each players' situation when the preliminary rosters were
announced here, so I won't re-hash all that now. The only player to make a 30-man roster but not
the final 23-man "on the plane" roster was Theo, which I wrote about here.
Just Football World Cup special podcast #2 direct from Johannesburg! is a post from: Just

On Episode 2 of the Just Football World Cup 2010 special podcast series we
shoot live from Johannesburg, in some dingy backroom at our accommodation in the north of the
city.
There was one article that grabbed my attention over the weekend and that was the DAILY MAIL's
article with Eddie Newton. Newton, part of Bobby Di Matteo's backroom team spoke of his time at
Chelsea leading up to Saturdays game and revealed what it used to be like as a trainee and how our
fortunes changed from the day Glenn Hoddle walked into the club.
I have been arguing for the last few years that Liverpool's under-performance on the pitch should
not be blamed on the easy target of the ongoing ownership situation. Naturally, I have been
continuously denigrated for holding such a seemingly inflammatory view. Well, it seems that
Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish agrees with me.
Gunner inadvertently dropped From the evidence in this video, it appears France coach Laurent Blanc
needs to improve his handwriting and invest in some new glasses. The hapless manager missed two
players out of his squad as he made the official announcement ahead of matches against Romania and
Luxembourg.

After some initial confusion, it is now clear that DeRo is currently on trial with Celtic
without the knowledge of Toronto FC. Here is the statement Toronto FC have released:
"We were unaware of Dwayne's plan to train with Celtic and we will contact them to understand
the situation.
I wish this were the US bid's logo, but clearly the Qatari's
must have put more money in Sepp Blatter's bank account. As you might have guessed from the title of
this post, I'm indignant (at best) at the selections of both Russia for WC2018 and Qatar for
WC2022. Ravi Ubha over at ESPN calls the two picks bizarre, and I couldn't agree more.
