In the 2010/11 season, Arsenal scored 72 goals in the Premier League, 21 goals in the Champions
League, 12 goals in the FA Cup and 14 goals in the Carling Cup. That is a lot to choose from for a
terribly indecisive person as myself. The list I came up with is subjective, but in general I kept
in mind quality of the goal and its significance.
Some viewers may have done a double-take early Saturday while watching the replay of Liverpool's
first goal against Wolverhampton Wanderers to see if Fernando Torres was offside or not. With hair
bobbing up and down, it was a female assistant referee who made the critical decision to keep her
flag down, allowing Torres to run on and take a pass from Raul Meireles and for Torres to slide the
ball into the back of the net.
West Brom have one of the better runs for the next few weeks, including a great home double in week
27 against West Ham and Wolves - there should be at least a few points in it for a Baggie player or
two in this gameweek. Over the next 5 weeks, their toughest competition comes from Man City away in
week 26, but is bookended with a match against Stoke and Birmingham as well as a match against
Wigan in week 25.
With captain Shalrie Joseph and starting right back Kevin Alston sent back to Boston for
undisclosed disciplinary reasons, the New England Revolution were forced to try some new players in
their positions in Monday's preseason exhibition against a team of U.S. U-17s at the University of
Central Florida in Orlando.
This article was sent to me by Daniel Casey of Notes of Subpar Footballer regarding Chicago's
current, or possibly past, issues on the field. It was written about a week ago, but now has a
further update at the end (you'll see it). Enjoy, and for all you readers who write your own
material, know that we at the Offside are always happy to feature (good) reader submitted work.
Roger Levesque scored two goals. Osvaldo Alonso scored his second goal in two matches. Erik
Friberg finally put one in the back of the net. Most importantly, the 46,065 fans in attendance

blowing a 2-0 lead.

PASADENA, Calif. - The U.S. men's national team started its Gold Cup final almost as good as
anyone could have imagined, but a two-goal lead to start the game wasn't enough against its most
bitter rival.
The United States lost its second consecutive Gold Cup final to Mexico, falling 4-2 in a
thrilling match played in front of a sold out crowd of 93,420 at the Rose Bowl on Saturday
night.

Charlie Adam admitted that he is very happy to have opened his goal scoring account for
Liverpool.
The Reds took on Malaysia in a pre-season friendly that ended 6-3 in favour of Kenny Dalglish's
men, with the former Blackpool midfielder opening the scoring after successfully converting a
penalty.
McCulloch scores (Image source www.bbc.co.uk/football)The friendly with Rangers on Tuesday night ended in a 1-0 loss for Liverpool. Kenny Dalglish's side
just couldn't find the back of the net in the match at Ibrox.
Liverpool didn't go easy on Rangers and players such as Charlie Adam, Andy Carroll and Glen Johnson
were just some utilised by the manager.
Yes, I'll go ahead and say it. Jared Borgetti, eat your heart out. (Not really, it's still
pretty epic.)
Ryujiro Ueda of Fagiano Okayama earns the title with his bombing own-half header into the back
of the net, which he then celebrated like a tap-in on the goal line. Smooth.
Yesterday morning, I woke up early to watch the Wolves – Liverpool game. Before the match
began, it was mentioned that there would be a female linesman assisting the referee, Martin
Atkinson. I admit, I was happy to see this, since it is a rare occurrence, and as a woman, I rarely
get to see my gender represented on the football pitch.

The possibility that Charlie Davies could spend the year on loan to DC United is a natural marriage
brought about by timing, the vagaries of the MLS allocation order system, and a shared need for
both to find redemption in 2011.
Charlie Davies wants to play, DC United could do with some positive press.
Former Fire goalkeeper Andrew DykstraFor once in the Carolina Challenge Cup, the Chicago Fire did
not have to deal with a man disadvantage situation during Saturday's finale of the tournament. But
despite numerous chances on the offensive end, Chicago came up empty as the Fire played the host
Charleston Battery to a scoreless draw at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, S.

If Hull City ends up getting promoted to the Premiership at season's end, the club might point
to Brad Guzan's performance against Coventry City as one of key points of the season.
Having just joined Hull on loan for a second time this season, Guzan made his way back into the
club's starting lineup on Saturday.
1. Finally! FINALLY! A win at Stamford Bridge. We've waited for that result for years so what a
time for it to come. We've put ourselves in an excellent position for the second leg now. Just
getting an away goal would have been good enough, even if it was a draw or a 2-1 defeat. To take a
clean sheet to Old Trafford as well is a truly fantastic result for United.
When it was officially announced that Fernando Torres had joined Chelsea on deadline day in
January, it was a move that was supposed to improve the stagnating West London club and boost their
chances of winning the Champions League. A British record £50m move from Liverpool added to the
already high expectations of Roman Abramovich and the Chelsea faithful where the goals were
anticipated to flow freely from the Spaniard.

The Richmond Kickers winning streak continued in emphatic fashion with a 6-0 rout of the Dayton
Dutch Lions.
The USL Pro leaders have one five-straight game to begin the season and have racked up a +9 goal
difference in that time.
Not to be outdone, Antigua Barracuda FC put seven by Puerto Rico United on Wednesday before
squeaking out a narrow victory over River Plate Puerto Rico over the weekend.
November 30th 2008: Ronaldo sent off
Cristiano Ronaldo received one of the most ridiculous red cards I've ever seen, thanks to Howard
Webb, during the derby a couple of seasons ago.
Already on a yellow card, a corner was delivered in the direction of Ronaldo who had created the
space for a free header.

The Gold Cup may be looming, but just which forwards U.S. national team head coach Bob Bradley
will bring to the tournament remains unclear. Bradley's upcoming decision was made a bit tougher
this weekend as Edson Buddle scored a spectacular equalizer in FC Ingolstadt 04's 1-1 draw with TSV
1860 Munich.
I've been raising quite the verbal stink about the importance of the Dynamo's gauntlet run-like
stretch of games to end the month of May. It began Saturday night at Rio Tinto and despite the fact
Houston left some quality goal chances unfinished, I have to consider it a job well done. A road
point at Real Salt Lake is nearly like a victory and getting a clean sheet thanks to a very strong
defensive performance an added bonus.

Welsh side Swansea City booked its place at Old Trafford after a frantic ending to its 3-1
victory over Nottingham Forest in a League Championship playoff semifinal at Liberty Stadium.
The two sides entered the second leg of their tie knotted at 0-0 on aggregate and were clashing
for a chance to play in the league's promotion final against either Cardiff City or Reading.

The Chicago Fire reserves entered Tuesday's match against Sporting Kansas City having scored
five goals in two games, but that offensive output was not replicated as the teams tied, 1-1.
With former Fire defender Bakary Soumare in attendance, Chicago jumped out to an early lead
courtesy of a goal from Cristian Nazarit.

When the U.S. men's national team opens its Gold Cup camp later this week, Clint Dempsey will be
gearing up to play in his third regional tournament. This one, however, is likely to be a bit
different from the ones he took part of in 2005 and 2007.
All eighteen teams are in action this weekend as Major League Soccer gets set to begin a stretch
of games without players called up for international duty.
Here are previews for all nine games scheduled this weekend along with our predicted
results.
Philadelphia Union vs. Toronto FC
BMO Field 12:30 PM EDT
An early start in Toronto as the Union look to defend their place at the top of the Eastern
Conference standings.
I attended my first Philadelphia Independence game of the season on hot and humid Labor Day
weekend. Philly's Cheesesteaks fell to the Western New York Flash by a score of 2-1 at Leslie Quick
Stadium at Widener University. The expansion Flash are on a roll in their first season in WPS.
The Marta-led team has not lost any games and is leading the league.
The Columbus Crew's first-team offensive outburst was apparently contagious.
A day after the Crew broke out for three goals in a 3-3 draw with Chivas USA, the Crew's
reserves posted six unanswered goals in a 6-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls on Monday.
Rookie Bernardo Anor and Academy player Chris Davis each scored twice, and rookies Justin Meram
and Cole Grossman each found the back of the net for Columbus (3-1-0).

Flamengo fans bid farewell to the retiring Dejan Petkovic on Sunday, and they hoped that current
star Ronaldinho could make the difference in a highly-anticipated clash with Corinthians. The
former World Player of the Year showed flashes of brilliance, including smacking a shot off the
post in the second half, but Flamengo was held to a frustrating 1-1 draw in a spirited contest.
The Gold Cup got underway last with a doubleheader in front of a sold-out crowd at the Cowboys
Stadium. The fans got what they came for as they saw ten combined goals and blowout victories by
two of the tournament favorites.
Costa Rica opened the Gold Cup with a 5-0 rout of Cuba. Los Ticos took an early lead as Marco
Urena scored his first of two goals on the day in the seventh minute of the Group A match.
This Saturday the US Men's National team will look sit alone at the top of their Gold Cup Group
with a win against Panama. Coming off of a strong showing in their 2-0 win over Canada the US is
favored to come away with the win in Tampa, but Panama also won their first group match against
Guadalupe.

The U.S. beat Guadeloupe 1-0 last night in Kansas City and will not meet Jamaica this weekend in
the Gold Cup quarter-finals.
So far in the Gold Cup the U.S. has been a shadow of the side that played in the World Cup last
year, and their indifferent form was evident last night. Despite dominating possession throughout
the game and creating clear chance after clear chance, the U.

It's a generally accepted rule that when things looks their darkest, a hero will rise. Tonight
in Washington, D.C. the Dynamo's hero rose in the 89th minute in the form of Brian Ching whose goal
help save Houston from another disappointing loss.
After Will Bruin hit the post and Danny Cruz missed a wide open net early in the second half,
the deck appeared stacked against Houston when Charlies Davies put United ahead 2-1 in the XX
minute.
The United States' 2-1 loss to Sweden in its final group game in the Women's World Cup is the
kind of game that makes you want to re-evaluate everything about a team. It makes you want to
re-think the lineup, the tactics, the style, the philosophy, the youth system, the type of athletes
we crank out, everything.

One of the better Under-17 World Cups in recent memory drew to a close on Sunday with Mexico
knocking off Uruguay 2-0 in front of nearly 100,000 fans at the fabled Azteca Stadium. The hosts
fully deserved to claim the trophy after surviving the much tougher side of the draw, and a second
Under-17 title in four editions stamps Mexico as one of the rising powers in international
soccer.
Not even an opponent scoring three goals can stop the red-hot Seattle Sounders these days.
Behind goals from Alvaro Fernandez, Roger Levesque, Fredy Montero and Mauro Rosales, the
Sounders knocked off the defending champion Colorado Rapids 4-3 at home on Saturday in a thrilling
match. Seattle had to come back from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits, just as they had against Portland last
Sunday.
