Real Madrid-Mallorca
Real Madrid blew a chance to move into a share of the lead last week in their 0-0 match against
Osasuna and this weekend they need to prove that they can rediscover the back of the net against a
strong fourth place squad in Mallorca.
If money and timing were no object then these five would all be plying their trade at
Anfield!

Some of these fall into the "if money was no object category" and others are more realistic and
do not require us to spend money we don't have, ala Portsmouth, and hell some wouldn't cost a penny
(if we ask nicely)!
You know Mark Watson the comedian, who cant pronounce his 'r's. It's actually pretty good, and
quite amusing in places much funnier than anything I can/have do/done anyway. You can find it at
http://backofthenet.markwatsonthecomedian.com/.
I can't help but read it in his funny voice though.

Oh goody, a replay. An insipid performance against the 20th-placed Championship side despite
starting a stronger team than expected and a change of formation isn't the best way to start 2010.

The Team: South Africa will be the other 31 nation's hospitable host during the
upcoming 2010 World Cup. Well, at least we all hope so. Sure, there were fears that this nation
would never be ready for the World's biggest tourney, but as of the writing of this post everything
seems to be on schedule.

It has been an easy season to pick on Atletico Madrid and star forward Diego Forlan. Forlan
was a goal scoring madman last season and with his club struggling this season, so has Forlan's
numbers as well. The star forward still has six goals this season, but keep in mind that last
season he was one of the only 30 plus goal guys in top level football worldwide.
So the wound caused by the defeat to the Yorkshire filth is starting to heal with a very faint scar
in place.
The reaction to the game has had United fans react in so many different ways..from total apathy to
manic hysteria..this is the norm whenever the reds lose. Many have started to point fingers at
individuals.
"4-3, mate" were the infamous words of Jake Clarke as he was carted away by security. He had
both his arms held behind his back, but this didn't stop Craig Bellamy marching over to him and
striking Jake in the face. The FA didn't deem this action worthy of any penalty, but Jake has been
banned from Old Trafford by the club "indefinitely".
Struggling Atletico finally hit form with a fine display away at Valladolid with Sergio Aguero
and Diego Forlan both finding the back of the net in this La Liga encounter.

AFCON tournament favourites Ivory Coast were held to a barren draw last night in Cabinda by a
Burkina Faso side that were determined to make the most out of their opening Group B encounter.
Burkina Faso, the underdogs in this match, were lucky not to concede a goal as Ivory Coast had more
than a handful of chances to score.
It seems Boro boss Gordon Strachan is going back to his former club Celtic in a bid to revive
Boro's ailing season. Press reports are claiming that FOUR Celtic players are on their way to the
Riverside, with some even claiming that medicals have already taken place and that the players
could be in the squad for Saturday's trip to Sheffield United.
Well we all know how the competition started but the tournament kicked off in earnest on Sunday
evening with the host nation Angola entertaining Mali. Hopes were high after all the political
wrangling that engulfed the weekend, football could return to the forefront. What no-one expected
was a series of breathless games and major shocks that have turned the Cup Of Nations on its
head.
It was billed as the game of the groups, the tournament's two favorites coming in and, with
Ivory Coast's disappointing show against Burkina Faso in the books, it was as close as ever. Then
the whistle went for 90 minutes and Ghana were left wondering what the hell just happened. Ivory
Coast won 3-1, but the scoreline hardly tells the story.
After spending the first four months of his Manchester City career struggling to find the back
of the net and being slagged off by the fans ("a poor man's Dickov"), Carlos Tevez has found the
back of the net plenty of times recently.
After being questioned about the Argie forward, Sir Alex Ferguson has nonchalantly dismissed any
feelings of regret, claiming that we have moved on.
Again, we were left to reflect on a decent first-half performance which created chances in front
of goal but, like previous games, we were unable to punish the opposition.
It was clear to see that the side looked more composed on the ball and for 45 minutes we were
the brighter of the two sides at Bramall Lane, but Strachan must be pulling his hair out at our
inability to put the ball in the back of the net when it matters.

Hull have signed Egypt striker Amr Zaki on loan until the end of the season from
home-country side Zamalek.
While terms have been agreed with the player and his club, Hull are still waiting for a work permit
to be confirmed for the 26-year-old.
So The Best League in the World bar none (copyright Barclays, Sky, Mars etc) finally also seems
to be turning into the most open league in the world. Points have been dropped left right and
centre. Formerly porous defences have shipped goals against the most modest of attacks. Even
Darren Bent has transformed himself into the kind of striker capable of finding the back of the net
on a more regular basis than Sandra R.
Our (late) review of the noughties sees The Arsenal Column count down the top 20 teams of the
decade (not definitive).

A slightly sentimental choice given the golden generation didn't win a thing and the semi-final
featuring a blonde weeping on the bench but each time the Czech's played, they thoroughly
entertained.

Milan Jovanovic's representatives have held talks with Liverpool,

Juventus suffered another defeat which perhaps came as no surprise despite the fact Roma were
rather not impressive until the penalty-kick which was converted by Francesco Totti. The Bianconeri
did not deserve to lose the match but the players have certainly been struggling despite putting in
a better effort against the Giallorossi.
The Light Network got the neutral pleasing barnstormer that they'd hoped for, but Tottenham were
left disappointed. Having now gone three games without a win, I think we'd all settle for a dull
1-0, George Graham special.
Our line up suggested that we were going for an early knockout blow.
Watching Tuesday night's relegation battle between Portsmouth and West Ham United was like
seeing two young adults groping each other. It was awkward, clumsy but performed at such a frenetic
pace that it was entertaining to watch and you never quite knew what was going to happen next.

Skysports.com understands West Ham are lining up a double swoop for Tottenham duo David
Bentley and Alan Hutton.
It's fair to label Landon Donovan's latest European adventure a success -- right? The American
attacker added an extra gear to Everton's attack since joining the club in January, and Wednesday
the 27-year-old found the back of the net for his new side. Labeling it a success off one goal and
a few solid performances may be a bit premature, but he has hit the ground running.
