Juan and Kaká on target for Brazil
Brazil ended 33 years without a win against Uruguay in Montevideo with a thumping 4-0 victory on
Saturday. Daniel Alves, Juan, Luís Fabiano and Kaká were all on the score sheet in a result that
left Brazil temporarily top of the table. Once again, it wasn't a great performance from Brazil and
Dunga's men had to thank their brilliant keeper, Júlio César, for stopping everything Uruguay
threw at him.
The United States faced El Salvador on Saturday September 5, 2009 in CONCACAF 2010World Cup
Qualifying. Both teams needed points from the match, especially El Salvador, who's chances of
qualification are slim have to get wins. The USA on the other hand is not in dire need but needs to
get wins at home after losing to Mexico and the top four teams very close.
DC United has decided not to exercise their option on Luciano Emilio's contract for the 2010
season, reports Soccer Insider's Steven Goff, a move that could spell the end of the Brazilian
forward's time in the nation's capital.
Signed by the club in 2007, Emilio burst onto the scene with 20 goals in his first season in D.

Those of you who read my last article will know it was regarding Liverpool's current striker
plight.
DC United hosts Marathon on Sept 24 at RFK Stadium for CONCACAF Champions League. Last night
Marathon took on Toluca. Toluca just helped United have a chance to go further in the Champions
League by beating Marathon, by 7 goals! This could be the best opportunity DC has had since
competing in the Champions League in the last 2 seasons.
Fulham hosted Manchester United on Saturday, December 19, 2009 in the English Premier League.
Both clubs are in the top half of the table and have had successful seasons domestically and in
Europe. Man U are in second place heading into the match and in the knockout stage of the UEFA
Champions League while Fulham are in the top half of the table and into the knockout stage of the
UEFA Europa League.
Carloz Tevez
What is the difference between Carlos Tevez and Dirk Kuyt? The only answer I can see is public
ridicule. It certainly isn't talent or ability. While Liverpool's Dutchman is widely ridiculed for
being nothing more than a willing worker who lacks any sort of co-ordination or natural ability,
Tevez is lauded as a world class talent who should be starting every game for United.
Chicago drops 2nd straight and 4th straight at home
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. - The Chicago Red Stars are in last place in Women's Professional Soccer. And
coach Emma Hayes was pretty dramatic with her starting lineup choices.
On the bench: Brazilian forward Cristiane, midfielder Megan Rapinoe and midfielder Carli Lloyd.
An incredible 2º leg semi-final of the Champions League withCHELSEA FC drawing 1-1 with FC
BARCELONA but being knockedout due to the away goal advantage. A goal that came Barça´s waywith
10 men down & in overtime with an outside of the box shotby INIESTA that found the back of the net.

Football: Torres on target as Liverpool crush Singapore
Liverpool arrived at Singapore in the second and last leg of their Asian Tour. With the boost of
news that talismanic captain, Steven Gerrard was cleared of his bar brawl, Liverpool turned on the
style against a sorry Singapore team.
Prior to the match, Singapore striker, Mohd Noh Alam Shah expressed to reporters that anything
could happen against Liverpool.
In a sparsely attended game (which may be the worst to take your Dad to as his first
professional soccer experience), DCU beat out FCD 2-0, with goals by Fred and Brandon Barklage, who
dazzled. Chances were easy to come by, as DC had Dallas goal under siege from the get go.
Fred missed a sitter early in the first half, and Quaranta was not playing his best, despite
what Goff's ratings may tell you.
A quick roundup of the weekend's games for Colorado's college soccer teams:
WOMEN
UNIVERSITY OF DENVER 1, COLGATE 0 2OT: Senior midfielder Kelli Breidenbach scored on an
assist from Mariah Johnston in the second overtime Sunday afternoon in the Colorado Soccer Classic
at Prentup Field in Boulder.
When I see a goal like this, I often wonder if it was luck, skill, both, or neither that caused the
ball to go into the back of the net.
For an imprecise sport such as footie, goals like this, lucky or not, should be celebrated. Not
even Landin could believe it worked.

Chicago allows two first half goals in exhibition
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. - Toyota Park was abuzz for Club de Futbol America during Wednesday night's
exhibition against the host Chicago Fire. Supporters of the Primera Division organization got what
they wanted to see as Las Aguilas won a 2-1 decision against their Major League Soccer opponent in
front of a crowd of 17,342.
1. Houston Dynamo
Beware of this team. After taking just three points from their first five games, the Dynamo – a
team somewhat known for their slow starts – has only dropped two points in the six games since,
and beat a very good Chicago Fire team on the road last week, which is more than enough to put them
atop the rankings this week.
The United States played Panama in the 2nd Quarterfinal in Philadelphia on Saturday night with
the winner advancing to the semifinals. Here's a full recap and video highlights.
United States outlasts Panama 2-1 - Video Highlights - The
United States came from behind to defeat Panama 2-1 in Extra Time Saturday night to advance to the
2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup Semifinals.
Following United, the expectation is our lads will create at least five clear cut chances and at
the very least, one will get put in the back of the net.
At Anfield yesterday this wasn't the case but the frustration we feel through the hangovers
today could have been avoided if several things had been done differently.
Manchester United looks to recover from last weekend's defeat to Liverpool as they face
Blackburn Rovers. Were they able to win or did Blackburn get a result? Here's a recap of the match
along with video highlights.
Manchester United beats Blackburn 2-0 Video Highlights
The match had a slow start as neither team really had any great chances in the first 20
minutes.
Leeds United supporters are singing the praises of American forward Mike Grella this morning. The
former Duke University standout hit the back of the net twice in a span of eight minutes in
overtime to propel the club to a 5-1 victory over Kettering Town in the second round of the FA Cup,
setting up a clash with Manchester United in the tournament's next round.
After a fantastic performance by Manchester United in the second leg of their Champions League
semi-final at the Emirates, United winger Park Ji-Sung has cemented himself as this week's
Wednesday Wonder. The man of many names (Park Ji-Sung, Ji-Sung Park, Three-Lung Park) has now had
two consecutive great performances for a Manchester United squad that is rolling.
In a sign that the US Open Cup has become more of an afterthought than ever to MLS clubs, four of
the top-flight's six teams in action on Tuesday night were unceremoniously dumped out of the
tournament in the third round. It's gotten to the point where it could be considered an upset when
a lower-division opponent actually loses to an MLS club.
2009/2010 Premier League Predictions Players & Clubs
Best Overall Squad
Yes, the tide has shifted and judging from the potential individual winners for next year you
should know by now that I think Chelsea will most likely be crowned Best Squad of 2010. Chelsea
just seems to be a complete squad to me.
Fast Forward to 50 seconds for brilliance
You won't find a bargain player I love
more in the Fantasy Premier League than Stoke's Liam Lawrence (5.5M). The free kick specialist has
yet to find the back of the net for his club this season, but his first international goal today
was surely a beauty.
Let's get this straight. There is the game. The one that involves 22 players dribbling, passing,
and shooting, trying to get past their opponents to stick the ball in the back of the net. It is a
game of individual skill and vision or small bits of...
The FIFA U-20 World Cup wrapped up on Friday, October 16, 2009 with the championship and 3rd
place matches. In the 3rd place match, Hungary faced Costa Rica while Ghana v Brazil was the final.
Both matches would end up going into penaly kicks. Here's a recap of both alon gwith video
highlights.
Ghana edges Brazil 0-0 (4-3 on penalties) Video Highlights
The match was dominated by Brazil for most of it but they failed to find the back of the
net.
Why waste 10M (Arshavin) on a brilliant midfielder classified as a striker when you can spend just
6.6M (Walcott) for one? Will the cheap Amr Zaki return to Wigan's starting lineup and get in on the
goals? Will the even cheaper Nicklas Bendtner put two in the back of the net to send down Boro?
A week of major fantasy question marks due to injuries, rest and rotation news is upon us.
Manchester United couldn't have picked a worse night not to show up in one of the most important
games of their club history. The Red Devils were so close to history. Just 90 minutes away from
being the first team ever to win two Champions League Finals back-to-back. So close to putting Sir
Alex Ferguson is the record books as one of the most successful club managers in the history of the
sport.
6/9/09 - Thunder Advance to Second Round of Lamar Hunt US Open Cup by Topping 402
3-2
BLAINE, Minn. (Tuesday, June 9, 2009) - Thunder move forward to the second round of the US Open
Cup with a 3-2 win over 402.
402 took an early lead on the Thunder in the 12th minute of play.
It was supposed to be a butt whippin, it was supposed to be like that supermodel that bitched
Terrell Owens on the new NBC show, Superstars. The FIFA Confederations Cup semifinal between Spain
and the USA would set US Soccer back 20 years. Everyone who watches football thought that La Furia
Roja would embarrass the Stars & Stripes (including myself).
We know, we know... it is only July but hey - you weren't doing anything else during the Summer
break were you?
Yes, it's the wonderful return of the official Fantasy Premier League competition for 2009/10 and
more specifically SPAOTP's very own mini-league, custom-made just for you.
This'll be the third year SPAOTP has had a Fantasy Premier League running and we're hoping to
attract even more competitors than the 67 we had in 2007/08 and the 121 we had in 2008/09.
Now that we have seen the back of Emmanuel Adebayor, Arsene has £25 million to recruit a
replacement, but do we need another striker?
Arsene Wenger has plenty of attacking options at his disposal before he even has to look
elsewhere.
Robin van Persie showed us what he was capable of doing last season, when during our dark months
of December and January he either created or scored every goal.

Fulham started off their 2009/10 campaign in winning fashion as they brushed aside a Portsmouth
team still in turmoil.
Lady luck shone on Roy Hodgson's side as a Clint Dempsey's shot took a heavy deflection off
Bobby Zamora and went straight into the back of the net in the 13th minute. A goal that even
Hodgson himself admitted was ‘fortuitous' proved to be the perfect start for a rejuvenated Fulham
who are aiming to better their 9th place finish last season.

The UEFA 2010 World Cup Qualifying Playoffs had their second legs on Wednesday, November 18,
2009. One of the match-ups was the Republic of Ireland v France that was 0-1 after the first leg.
The Irish were the clear underdog with a 0-1 deficit after the first leg and having to travel to
France for the second leg.
Thank goodness that Barcelona finally found the back of the net so we could get a dream Champions
League final between the two best clubs in the world. In the meantime, Man United look ready to
lock up the EPL...
This was the last edition of the UEFA Cup, before the competition changes its
format to be called as the Europa League. Shakhtar Donetsk of
Ukraine, and Werder Bremen from Germany were the
survivors of a long and arduous campaign that was all about walking onto the pitch in
Istanbul.
