LIVERPOOL, England Liverpool forward Ryan Babel has been fined £10,000 ($15,800) and warned about
his future conduct by the Football Association after admitting a charge of improper conduct
relating to comments and images posted on Twitter concerning referee Howard Webb. Babel incurred
the wrath of the governing body when tweeting a doctored photo of [.
Liverpool have confirmed that they've accepted a bid from Hoffenheim for Ryan Babel. Media reports
put the fee at €7m, or £5.8m, which is almost exactly 50% of what Liverpool paid for the
winger/striker/professional Tweeter in the summer of 2007. The deal's not done yet – Babel still
has to agree personal terms – but I expect we're past the point of no return.

The return of the King in the league, in the midst of a crush of games where we're sure to see
rotation of some sort.
In the previous post on Babel and the worst transfers of the last decade, I should have better
differentiated between a "bad player" and a "bad signing." Buying Alberto Aquilani was an awful,
awful deal, but Alberto Aquilani's an outstanding player. Philipp Degen is a terrible full-back but
was a free signing that didn't cost Liverpool much more than wages and overtime for the medical
staff.
The Liverpool FC line up v Bolton Wanderers for the Premier League fixture at Anfield on
Saturday January 1st 2011, has been confirmed as follows:
Starting 11:
Reina, Johnson, Aurelio, Agger, Skrtel, Lucas, Meireles, Maxi, Kuyt, Ngog, Torres.
Subs:
Jones, Cole, Babel, Kelly, Poulsen, Gerrard, Kyrgiakos.
As the Liverpool players were booed off the pitch on Wednesday night after a woeful display
against Wolves resulting in defeat, it was the name of "Dalglish" that resounded from the stands,
a cry for help from the Anfield idol.
Today the players take to the pitch once more against Bolton, the King having spoken, the
clubs current ambassador and head of football development asking for unity within the club.
For the fifth year running. Not for those with weak stomachs.

The ankle injury which saw Meireles removed from Saturday's match in the 20th minute rules him out
of Wednesday's match at Blackburn.

Thanks to Dimitar Berbatov's world-class 'Bulgarian Shuffle', yesterday's damp
squib of an FA Cup tie between Manchester United and Liverpool was effectively settled after just
30 seconds had elapsed which, all-in-all, precipitated a fairly dire subsequent 92-and-a-half
minutes of featureless toil.
Everybody may be on pins and needles watching the transfer front, wondering if the rumoured
Suarez deal will finally go through, wondering if the Babel to Hoffenheim deal will finally go
through, and maybe even wondering if the agreed price with Hoffenheim was always just a way of
setting Babel's value as a bargaining tool in negotiations with Ajax over Suarez.
