Other than Kyrgiakos for the injured Carragher, Liverpool's expected to deploy the same line-up
that narrowly lost to Spurs, nine changes from the side that drew in Bucharest on Thursday.

Barcelona midfielder Xabi Alonso watched his former team-mates rip Aston Villa apart at
Anfield tonight 3-0.
Liverpool showed former manager Gerard Houllier that life without him at
Anfield was much better after he claimed that in his time at the club he dragged them into the 20th
Century, while also taking the credit for making Steven Gerrard the World Class midfielder he is
today.

For 60 minutes, it was an archetypal Hodgson performance, a poor copy of Fulham in last year's
Europa League. Liverpool were living on a knife's edge, with Steaua bossing possession and creating
chances, yet the away side were in front.
Jovanovic celebrates after putting Liverpool ahead...Liverpool yesterday secured their progression
into the knockout stages of the Europa League after a 1-1 draw with Steaua Bucharest. Our
opposition also look likely to qualify too depending on their last result.A shaken up team from Roy
Hodgson saw players like Babel, Jovanovic, Kelly and Wilson get another chance to shine.
Liverpool secured top spot in Group K of the Europa League with a draw against Steaua Bucharest in
Romania but required a helping hand from their rivals after a howler from goalkeeper Jose
Reina.
Milan Jovanovic's first-half header was cancelled out when the Reds captain on the night allowed
Eder Bonfim's effort to escape his grasp and creep over the line.

but his pro-Anfield kow-towing perhaps helped to give us an early Xmas present as we easily beat
Aston Villa, unlike the same fixture last season. It was a good match and a great result for us,

Ryan Babel will start upfront alongside David Ngog against Aston Villa, while Torres misses out

Just like the last home match, a comfortable 3-0 victory against sub-standard opposition. This is a
trend I could get used to.
After a scrappy opener, two quick-fire goals by Liverpool's two strikers settled matters early on.
Gerard Houllier's return to Anfield ended in disappointment as the Reds comfortably claimed
three points to continue their climb up the table. Goals from David Ngog, Ryan Babel and Maxi
Rodriguez sent Liverpool up to eighth in the league, the highest of this campaign so far. There
were a number of notable absentees; Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher missed the game through
injury and Fernando Torres was allowed compassionate leave as his wife went into labour and later
gave birth to a baby boy, Leo.
Roy Hodgson makes one change as Fernando Torres returns to the starting lineup in place of Ryan
Babel against Newcastle United.

For all that superficially Roy Hodgson's moment of face rubbing madness had an element of
slapstick in its sudden violence, in the end it was more depressing than laughable. At its root it
was a display of frustrated, impotent rage from a man who momentarily seemed to have snapped. He
didn't know what to do, couldn't do more than stand and watch, and it reflected what I and I'm sure
many following Liverpool have wanted to do time and again over his tenure.

Just change the players' names and it's the exact same review as when these sides met in Utrecht.
At least that match had the built-in excuse of being away from home, even if the side was far
stronger.

So much for at least being reliably decent at Anfield...
Wolves dominated every phase of the game and deserved their win. And this is a side that hadn't won
away all season long.
