It's been a long and tortuous season for Racing, but on Sunday night, at last, their fans will
finally be able to sleep sound in their beds, and when they wake up on Monday morning will be going
into work or school with, if not pride, then at least a massive sense of relief. On [...]
An extra treat this week, because the goals from the lower divisions have been put online by TN as
well - something they do sometimes and not at others. For the Primera A goals of the weekend, all
twenty-two of them, including an absolutely unbelievable one from José Sand for Lanús
(the first of his [.
Breaking news from the lower divisions: Instituto de Córdoba confirmed on Wednesday night that
37-year-old striker Daniel 'Miliki' Jiménez has announced his retirement from professional
football, and hopes to play his last match for La Gloria in the pre-season friendly against Racing
on Wednesday 30th January.
The first legs of the Promoción between the Primera A and B Nacional are played tonight, and
in the earlier kick off, Gimnasia de Jujuy have got a good result in attempting to defend their
place in the top flight. In front of a full stadium in Santa Fé, El Lobo Jujeño took the
lead [...]
Following Gimnasia de Jujuy's away draw with Unión on Wednesday evening, Racing got one of
their own in Córdoba against Belgrano to set up a return at El Cilindro on Sunday. In the
first half, Facundo Sava was on his best form, scoring once but missing an absolute bucketload as
Racing more or less shut [.
With the completion at the weekend of the Promociónes, the 2007-2008 season is now complete in
Argentina. Racing, of course, are the most notable survivors of the relegations playoffs, but there
have been shocks in other divisions with little-fancied All Boys winning the Primera B
championship, and Nueva Chicago losing their playoff to fall down [.
The Copa Ciudad de Buenos Aires could be won by one of two teams, with only one match remaining,
after Apertura champions Lanús were able to nullify Estudiantes' threat despite finishing the
match in Liniers with only nine men. Elsewhere, Rosario Central played their last match of the
pre-season camp in Mar del Plata.
And so it comes to this. Three seasons of struggle against the drop came down to one head-to-head
match to decide who, out of Colón de Santa Fé and Racing Club, would remain in the
Primera A next season, and who would have to enter a two-leg playoff against a side from B Nacional
to [...]
There were thirty goals from nine matches this weekend in Primera A (only Lanús vs.
Huracán finished goalless), including two five-goal matches, in La Bombonera and El Viaducto,
and two featuring four goals: one in Tucumán and one in El Bosque. You can watch the lot on
the TN Sportblog right here, and read on [.
Yes, it returns at last, a week or two later than promised, for which I apologise - here's what's
been happening in the AFA-affiliated lower divisions! Monday night saw Chacarita Juniors hold on to
third place in the B Nacional, as they beat Atlético Rafaela 1-0 in La Paternal to end a run of
five matches [.
Unión de Santa Fé beat Chacarita Juniors by a solitary goal on Sunday to derail the visitors'
hopes of moving into the top two of B Nacional, and instead took second place for themselves. Juan
José Serrizuela's 41st minute header separated the sides, to make up for Rubén Ferrer having
two earlier goals disallowed (the first incorrectly).
San Martín de San Juan might be in the automatic relegation zone with just three matches left
of the Primera A season, but another high-altitude club with the same name will be in the top
flight in Argentina next season, after San Martín de Tucumán drew 2-2 with Chacarita
Juniors to confirm promotion.
There may have been no matches in Primera A the weekend just gone, but the lower divisions carried
on as normal, unaffected by the performances (or otherwise) of the world's national teams. Now,
then, seems as good a time as any to have a quick look at how the first month or so of lower [...]
The goals from the weekend just gone are online now, and you can see them on the TN Sportblog by
clicking here. As per usual, you'll find the running order of this clip (worth watching if only for
the ridiculous quality of some of the goals in the Gimnasia de Jujuy vs. Huracán thriller, not
[...]
San Lorenzo lead the Apertura following Friday night's win over Colón in the Nuevo
Gasómetro, but they've got some competition, and on Saturday Vélez Sársfield
reminded them of that fact with a 2-1 victory at home to Rosario Central. El Fortín played
well after an early scare, and now sit two points back on San [.
