First of, apologizes on my part. Summer was extremely busy, worked 2 jobs and took classes. Just
got back to college last week and am finally settled in. With Julian not around, here's a little
update on what's what with the Azzurri. [read more]
Andrea Pirlo, the man who looks continually stoned, talked quite a bit about the state of
Italian football. In fact, his soundbite is quoted at a whopping three sentences by ESPN, who
didn't exactly paint gli azzurri in a positive light. Words like "disastrous," embarassing," and
"must drastically improve" pop out in the 3 paragraph, 2 sentence article.
Finally Italy has clicked. While the comeback win against Estonia was a good result, this 5-0
win shows that Prandelli has found harmony within the team. Prandelli's home debut as the coach of
the Italian National team is certainly positive, Cassano inspired the team, and he looks ready to
face any opposition.

A former World Cup referee has been arrested at New York's Kennedy Airport after customs staff
found ten bags of heroin taped to his stomach, back and legs.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents collared Byron Moreno late on
Monday evening after he arrived in America on a commercial flight from his native Ecuador.
As the new Serie A season pauses this weekend for national teams to begin their qualifying for
Euro 2012, Italian soccer fans may feel lost not being able to watch their favorite club. To be
honest, the Italy-Estonia qualifier looks less than tantalizing only two months after the exciting
World Cup match-ups and high-level play.
It seemed like a typical Azzurri 2010 game. In fact, it could've been scripted. Italians
starting off rather well? Check. Decent amount of possession? Check. Conceding a goal from the
opponent's first shot on target? Check and mate. It would almost seem humorous if it wasn't so
embarrassing and disheartening.

You may remember Mario Ferri from the World Cup, back when he was giving Marcello Lippi the old
"I told you so" over his refusal to call up Antonio Cassano. Well, new coach Cesare Prandelli has
called up the mad genius and with predictable results he's quite good at football, you know.
So Mario, ultimately very pleased with these new developments, streaked onto the Franchi pitch
last night, having hid in a bathroom since he's banned in Italian stadia, during Italy-Faroe
Islands to show his appreciation with a kiss for Antonio and a thumbs up for an amused
Prandelli.

Not much is going on in the world of gli azzurri. Serie A is in full swing, and besides the fact
that I'm incredibly depressed as a Roma fan, it's awesome to watch calcio every weekend once again.
But to keep the blog active in between games, I'll be doing posts like these- news, editorials,
polls and the like.
Yesterday, I had a table showing the upcoming Azzurri games. Mino over at the Roma Offside- he
posts here under Cicero- pointed out to me that the calendar wasn't exactly accurate. It didn't
have friendlies listed, and thus it was quite a few games short. To atone for this oversight, I
decided to do a posted dedicated entirely to the Azzurri schedule for the next year.
