In an announcement Wednesday that will not come as much of a surprise to followers of soccer, Italy was named one of the top seeds for the 2010 World Cup, joining host nation South Africa, Brazil, England, Netherlands, Spain, Germany, and Argentina.

The big news coming out of this announcement is the conspicuous absence of one team from "Pot 1″: 2006 World Cup runner-up France.
