Let's Play Find the Most Boring European WCQ!

A More Splendid Life 10 October @ 08:25 AM EST
This is tricky because there are so many fixtures you'd think would be boring to watch until you consider one or two auxiliary factors.
Let's take for example Liechtenstein v. Azerbaijan. Who's gonna watch this hopeless run around? Well, let's say someone told you this was the only game you would ever be allowed to watch again for the rest of your life. Click to continue reading...

Weekend Soccer Television Schedule - 10/11 October

World Club Rankings 08 October @ 03:22 PM EST

Welcome back, football fans. For the moment, I'm temporarily suspending my feud with ESPN. (I call it a feud even though I believe that in order for it to actually be a feud, ESPN would have to start arguing with me or, at least, recognize that I exist.) It does appear that ESPN has posted it's schedule for the weekend with days to spare for a change, for what it's worth given the few games being broadcast, so those matches are included below.

Germany face tense wait for qualification

Bundesliga Talk 11 September @ 09:46 AM EST
It seems strange that a team that has gained 22 points from a possible 24 is not yet guaranteed World Cup qualification. Whilst it is true that England, Netherlands and Spain have perfect qualification records, Germany might feel like they have also done enough already. In fact they face a tense climax to their qualification campaign. Click to continue reading...

All four British teams and the Republic of Ireland could make the World Cup. Really

Soccer Source 07 September @ 06:28 PM EST
This is not a joke. England are all but qualified and can book their trip to South Africa with a win over Croatia Wednesday. Northern Ireland can win their group with victories in their last two games and a little help. Their neighbors to the south, the Republic of Ireland, have an outside shot of winning their group but should at least finish second. Click to continue reading...

Octoberfest = Soccerfest

Soccer Tickets Online 03 September @ 07:00 AM EST

Why am I writing a post about Octoberfest in early September? Because I love Octoberfest, but I hate it's name. Its moniker inherently limits the celebration to only 31 days. I think it should be known as Everydayfest or at least Fallfest. But Octoberfest it is, and it's a great month.

A FIFA Tweak Of The Rules To Cause Chaos In World Cup Qualifiers #

football is fixed 03 September @ 04:19 AM EST
Excellently, the conclusion to the European World Cup 2010 Qualifiers are a mathematical diversion of some consequence.
And all because of one little FIFA rule - that only eight of the nine second placed nations will move forward for the Play-Off head-to-heads in November.
So all your column inches of projection and requirement are mindless chatter as a thoroughly systems thinking approach with a dose of specified game theory is the only way to strategically analyse or plan ahead. Click to continue reading...
