On a day when a host of Americans Abroad had first-leg games in the playoff round of the UEFA Europa League, Clint Dempsey had the best performance with a 90-minute outing in which he bagged a brace.

Dempsey scored the last two goals in Fulham's 3-0 victory against Dnipro, likely assuring the Cottagers' passage to the next round.

Clint Dempsey may not have been on the U.S. men's national team's roster for its friendly against Mexico, but his season with Fulham officially begun on Thursday.

Playing in the third round of the UEFA Europa League, Dempsey helped Fulham advance as the Cottagers knocked off Croatian club RNK Split 2-0.

United States National Team forward Jozy Altidore is now a member of AZ Alkmaar, the club most associated with its US National Team alum and AZ's director of football Earnie Stewart. Alkmaar bought Altidore's contract from La Liga club Villarreal. Altidore joins the Eredivisie club after spending part of last season on loan with Bursaspor in Turkey's topflight.

Jozy Altidore's time with AZ Alkmaar couldn't have gotten off to a better start.

In his first official game with AZ, Altidore came off the bench and scored a header in the 80th minute of a 3-1 win in the club's season opener against PSV Eindhoven. Altidore made a nifty run to create space between himself and his defender before finishing to the near post.

Logging in for his new club in the 65th, Jozy doesn't waste much time and scores on a nice header off a sweet chip into the box for AZ's 3rd goal in their opening win vs. PSV Eindhoven. Always good to see a nice start like this, especially after the lack of 1st team playing time in Spain. Hopefully, the 1st team action and technicality of Holland wears off on Jozy and he comes back to the USMNT

The U.S. men's national team midfielder earned his second straight start in a week, going a full 90 minutes and having a hand in both goals in Chievo's 2-1 win vs.

After a hot start in his first season in the Netherlands, it appears that Jozy Altidore is going to have to fight for his place in AZ Alkmaar's starting lineup.

According to reports out of the Netherlands, AZ manager Gertjan Verbeek has elected to bench Altidore ahead of Thursday's UEFA Europa League match against Austria Wien.

Almost three years after being part of the Argentina squad that Tim Howard shut out in a memorable 0-0 tie at Giants Stadium, Lionel Messi will be returning to New Jersey to try again to beat Howard and the U.S. men's national team.
