From SHEFFIELD UNITED, I said, not JAIL, in case you are confused. Anyway, Sheffield United have
finally decided to axe their infamous striker Ched Evans, who was convicted of rape and sentenced
to five years imprisonment last month.
The Blades only recently suffered the heartbreak of losing on penalties in the League One
play-off final, while it is a strong possibility that if their top-scorer Evans had not committed
such a thoroughly vile crime and totally messed up a number of people's lives in the process,
United could well have secured an automatic promotion place.
Behind the Axe looks at the U.S. Open Cup third and fourth round, and some specific complaints
about the new bidding process for hosting matches. While things are far more open in the new realm,
money is still extremely influential when it comes to picking host venues which gives a dramatic
advantage to MLS teams.
Behind the Axe takes a look at some recent buzz surrounding JELD-WEN Field, and whether it is too
small after Chicago Fire defender Dan Gargan critized the pitch dimensions after the Fire suffered
defeat. Just like their diving tactics couldn't secure a win on May 20, his claims are unjustified.

"Poke me again on Facebook and I'll block you, Kenneth"
Poor old Kenny Dalglish. Not only does he have to deal with the trauma of unemployment in
middle-age, but now he has been forced to endure the ultimate social media humiliation, after
Liverpool overlord John W Henry decided to unfollow him on Twitter soon after giving him the elbow
from Anfield.
Behind the Axe looks at the aftermath of the loss in Montreal and my thoughts about what the
Timbers need to do in order to get out of this funk. While I still have optimism about what they
can accomplish this season, it's important that this team remain focused and together. That's the
only way they will break out of this slump.
After displaying a gritty effort against Sporting Kansas City, the Portland Timbers can now turn
their attention to an upcoming trip to Montreal and acclimating to their newest player acquistion,
forward Mike Fucito. Behind the Axe looks at that trade while also talking about the Timbers
Reserve's big win in Vancouver this weekend.
Normally I don't steal other people's words for my blog posts as I like to stay as original as I
can but I'm breaking my own rule tonight in favor of a Facebook post from my son who was commenting
on Chelsea's epic Champions League Semi Final elimination of Barcelona at The Nou Camp stadium
tonight.
Behind The Axe takes a look behind the current issues with the Portland Timbers and the various
theories behind the struggles. Whether it is a lack of effort, the need to upgrade talent or
unrealistic expectations, the simple fact is that it's too soon to discount anything for this
season. It's important for the team to stick together and not allow personal agendas or other
concerns to fracture the locker room at this key juncture.
Effort
Think the biggest problem with the Timbers right now is effort? The Timbers postgame comments would
appear to agree with you, as would former captain Ian Joy:

INTERVIEW WITH THE GREAT GORDON JAGO
- Q&A (Part 1 of 2): Exec.
Like busting through the bathroom door with an axe, Jozy Altidore poked his head through for the
opening goal in AZ's match at Vitesse on 32 minutes. Despite his 11th of the Eredivisie season, the
Cheese Farmers have now fallen behind 2-1 early in the second half - so this post may not be done
yet. - Greg Seltzer
One of the more annoying message board debates has been around Philippe Senderos' impact on
Brede Hangeland. I remember when Aaron Hughes was regularly criticised by fans, one respected
poster frequently bemoaning how Hughes 'forced' Hangeland to play in the left centre-back slot
which limited him as a player.

Behind the Axe looks at the recent news since the Timbers huge win over the Philadelphia Union to
start the 2012 MLS season. Midfielder Kalif Alhassan earned multiple awards for his efforts on
March 12, while the Timbers will say goodbye to goalkeeper Jake Gleeson for a bit while he returns
to New Zealand.
Rangers FC in crisis: What lies in store for Bocanegra, Edu, and Bedoya?
Rangers FC is in crisis undergoing Chapter 13 or financial administration. The news gets worse
as players have been warned that many of them will be let go. As many as eleven face the axe. By
the end of the day we will get to know.
Behind the Axe looks in depth at the Portland Timbers effort against Chivas USA and provides
individual player ratings and an overall team rating. While the teams drew at 1, there were plenty
of positive performances by both clubs.

During Sweden's training session yesterday, Daniel Majstorovic (who had only just returned to
the fold after fracturing a cheekbone) suffered an injury that has prematurely ended his season
and sadly also ended his hopes of playing at Euro 2012 this summer in fact, the 34-year old Celtic
centre-half has it all on to be fit and ready for the start of next season.

In-depth game analysis and player-by-player evaluations from Monday's preseason match
The agent of Rafael Benitez has denied reports that Chelsea have approached the former Liverpool
manager about the manager's position.
Current Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is under severe pressure after a run of just two wins in 10
Premier League games, a home draw with Birmingham in the FA Cup and a 3-1 defeat to Napoli in the
Champions League.
It says a lot that after only two first legs in the last 16 of the Champions League, it looks
likely that for the first time since 1996, there will be no English teams in the quarter-finals of
Europe's top club competition. It says even more that no one is really that surprised.
Chelsea's task might not be as mountainous as Arsenal's, but there is a glaring lack of
confidence in Andre Villas-Boas' side.

Well, I'm not sure how much the players of San Luis FC net, but from now on, or at least until
someone gets a look at the nitty gritty of their contracts, they'll be playing for their pay no
win, no money against the bottom club in the Mexican Primera.
Which has probably sent a stampeding hoard of underemployed lawyers to the party willing to
offer their services.
As you are probably already aware, the weather took an axe to this weekend's non-league fixture
list and only a handful of matches took place anywhere. The FA Trophy Third Round matches were
completely called off and will be played at a later date, so the draw for the quarter-finals, which
is to be made tomorrow, will have a somewhat odd look about it.
Behind the Axe looks at some of the finances behind the most recent signings for the Portland
Timbers. While the contract terms and numbers aren't released, the rules of MLS contracts did
provide the Timbers some financial benefits that potentially helped them in the signing of Kris
Boyd, a striker from Scotland.
Kenny Dalglish may have threatened to axe some under-performing players in the Liverpool squad
following Saturday's humiliating 3-1 loss to Bolton but he has firmly maintained his support behind
winger Stewart Downing.
Downing cost the Reds £20 million during the summer transfer window and despite showing sparks
of brilliance, the England international has yet to score or provide an assist in his Liverpool
career.
Swansea 3 (Sinclair pen 16, Dyer 57, Graham 70) Arsenal 2 (Van Persie 5, Walcott

(Premiership)
Two weeks ago, the Arsenal fanbase was pretty content. A win over QPR had lifted us back amongst
the top four at the turn of the year, a remarkable turnaround given the position we were in after
seven games.
Behind the Axe looks at some of the most recent Portland Timbers news in greater detail, from
looking at the breakdown of the schedule, more background about the Brent Richards signing and
thoughts about the MLS Super Draft taking place on January 12.

The pressure on Blackburn manager, Steve Kean, intensified on Tuesday night after his team suffered
yet another defeat, this time at the hands of Bolton, which means that they now sit at the foot of
the Premier League. The match that had been billed as the "Axe Factor", with both Kean and Bolton
boss, Owen [.
Watching Man Utd crash out of the Champion's League Group stage has helped me get over Liverpool's
defeat to Fulham no end.
It is great to see our fiercest rivals lose at any time but to lose such an important match is
terrific.

Behind the Axe looks at various Timbers news from GM Gavin Wilkinson's love of airports, Owner
Merritt Paulson appearing on local sports radio, and an epic mustache growing competition amongst
two of the Timbers center backs. We also talk a bit about the MLS playoff picture and the results
of the matches up to this weekend's conference finals.
