The 5th round of Campeonato Brasileiro confirmed a few things either Brazilians already know or
are getting used to.
1) Bad boys will always be bad boys:
Goalie Fabio Costa from Santos and forward Kleber from Cruzeiro did it again. In the Santo Andre
3- 3 Santos draw, Fabio Costa caused an injury in Gustavo Nery which will leave him out of action
for 3 months at least.
11th round of Campeonato Brasileiro. The goals and one thing about each match.
Coritiba 2 x 1 Grêmio: Marcelinho Paraiba, with a beautiful long range, and forward Ariel
saving Coritiba again.
Goiás 0 x 2 Avai: Avai left the last position in the table.
Santos 3 x 3 Grêmio Barueri: Another terrible result for Santos, but given that Santos was
losing 3-1, the draw was good.
In the 23rd round of the Brasileirao, the race for the title came down to what is promising to
be a tight one. Palmeiras (44 points), Inter (43) and Sao Paulo (40) won their matches and offered
no chance for each other to relax.
On the match that marked the return of Vagner Love, Palmeiras received Barueri at
home.
It seems this generation that grew up playing FIFA/Winning Eleven/Pro Evolution Soccer and
watching Nike commercials have total disregard for bicycle goals. But they forget how it's not
easy. And I love them. Last weekend, William from Avai did it. And he cried on the pitch after
scoring it.
This Sunday had 10 champions from different states in Brazil. Out of the 10 champions, 6 are in
the first division of Campeonato Brasileiro. Add to this list Sport and Inter, and the 8 state
champions will be in the league that starts next week. Check it out:
Flamengo 2 (4) x (2) 2 Botafogo: Rio de Janeiro, for the third time in a row, belongs to
Flamengo.
The 13th round of Campeonato Brasileiro was all about black and white. Atletico-MG and
Corinthians were the ones who benefited the most from the midweek round. The two clubs won at home
by 2-1 and watched direct rivals losing important points.
In Belo Horizonte, Atletico beat Fluminense, who had the 5th debut of coach Renato Gaucho.
The 24th round of Campeonato Brasileiro was all Sao Paulo's.
Sao Paulo received the surprisingly good side of Avai at Morumbi. In the first-half, Avai made
things difficult for Sao Paulo, as the home team offered loose defensive action in the midfield. In
the second-half, however, Sao Paulo decided to suffocate the visitors.

Despite the fact that 3 postponed matches still have to be played, the first-half of Campeonato
Brasileiro is over. With 3 other clubs on the rise, the lead by Palmeiras has been
overshadowed.
Sao Paulo, Avai and Goias showed massive will for the victory, and fought until the last minute
to squeeze the 3 points that cemented their top positions in the table.
Santos had its last practice before tomorrow's game agaist Avai at the Vila Belmiro. Coach
Luxemburgo did not push the players too much but they did play some ball under the rain. Some
players even played some "foot-volley".
Luxa decided to spare his atletes for tomorrow since the they were still in need of rest because of
the problems they faced with the two hour late flight last Thursday night.
The 28th round of Brasileirao was big obstacle for the leaders of the tournament. Palmeiras, Sao
Paulo, Goias and Atletico-MG failed to win. The only side rubbing its hand and smiling is Inter, as
it pocketed 3 points.
On Thursday, Palmeiras received Avai at home knowing that on the day before Sao Paulo had failed
to win.
What a win. A great performance to get us out of relegation trouble. Neymar... what can I saythat
second goal was pure class.
The win also solidified our push for football on the continent next season. A win against Avai and
we are in.
That's all I have to say for now. Let's end the season on a positive note.
It's another busy Sunday on November 29, 2009 in the South American leagues as San Lorenzo hosts
