The Manchester derby aside, arguably the most eagerly anticipated fixture of the weekend will
be at Loftus Road where this season's Championship pace-setters QPR welcome in-form Nottingham
Forest. The Reds have rocketed up the table in recent weeks and now have the league leaders and a
place in the Premier League firmly in their sights.
Just like the bottom of the Premier League (which became even more congested this week), the top of
the Championship presents a tangled mess of possibilities. With two automatic promotion spots on
the line and playoffs for the next four, no one...

QPR: Serious cause for concern? is a post from: Just Football

As Queens Park Rangers look destined to enjoy the glory of Premier League
football next season a serious case of rule breaking, dodgy dealing and high profile characters
rumbles on in the background that threatens to rain on the Super Hoops' parade.
An important and unique event will take place in Glaslough, Co Monaghan, Ireland at 6pm on August
20th 2011.
Its a commemoration event to honor one of the most important football men of his generation.
John McKenna was born to Patrick McKenna and Jane McCrudden in the parish of Donagh on January 3rd
1855.
It may only be the 3rd round, but the FA Cup's draw has produced some real crackers.
Sixty-four sides still have the potential to reach Wembley on cup final day, and 32 matches will
be played to see who progresses into the fourth round.
Here are five of the best ties to look out for:
Birmingham v Wolves
This Black Country derby isn't possible in the top flight this year following City's relegation
last season, but the Blues have done well both domestically and on the continent under Chris
Hughton.
Champions League knockout play now committed to memory, we're back into the domestic leagues
with a touch of cup action in England, and the rest of the world getting on with earning points. As
you may know, faithful readers, we tend to look to the Soccer Insider for our weekend tv listings,
but seeing as so many of us watch matches through variously legal web outlets, we thought of
expanding the list a bit this week.
Dani Pacheco would be willing to return to Norwich City if he fails to get games at parent club
Liverpool.
The Spanish forward linked up with the Canaries in March after on loan and enjoyed a productive
spell with the Championship club, netting twice in six appearances.
His efforts helped Paul Lambert's side to secure automatic promotion, and Pacheco would welcome a
return to Carrow Road to play Premier League football next season.

The Bluebirds' 3-0 aggregate defeat to Reading in last week's semi-final was a bitter pill to
swallow for the supporters, particularly with their side still well in with a shout of automatic
promotion just days before the season finale.

As we approach the halfway point in the League One season, more or less nothing has yet been
decided and with each passing week more questions are being asked of which more or less none are
being definitively answered. No matter which we way we choose to interpret this league table, it
makes for extraordinary reading.

- Thirty-Six Years Ago: QPR Knocked Chelsea out of the FA Cup!
The departure of Owen Coyle 12 months ago has so far proved to be too big an obstacle for
Burnley to recover from. Since the Scot left for the bright lights of Bolton, the club has slipped
from its short-lived stint among the country's elite and back into the Championship, and an
underwhelming first half of this season led to Coyle's successor, Brian Laws, being relieved of his
duties.
The club has announced that Andros Townsend has joined Watford on loan until the end of the
season, after spending the first part of this campaign at Ipswich. He has previously had loans at
Orient, MK Dons & Yeovil.
Townsend impressed during his Spurs debut in the FA Cup third round game against Charlton,
scoring our first goal in the 3-0 win.
Rotherham are the visitors this Tuesday night as Boro look to continue where they left off on
Saturday. The games are coming thick and fast now as Boro effectively begin their Christmas period
after the original fixtures were postponed due to the poor weather at the back end of 2010. This
game was initially pencilled in for the 8th January, but our 3rd round tie against Newcastle meant
that the game had to be put back.
On a day when elevation to the Premier League became even more enticing after the sacking of Andy
Gray as a pundit by Sky Sports, the Reds welcomed Bristol City to the City Ground on a chilly rainy
evening. Our visitors were competent whilst unadventurous, opting to defend their 0-0 draw and hit
on the break.
After Tuesday's thrilling comeback victory at Blackpool, Manchester United return to FA Cup
action and to the road as they face League One promotion hopefuls Southampton on Saturday
evening.
On Tuesday night at Bloomfield Road, United were down 2-0 with under 20 minutes remaining. But
three goals in the late stages, including a brace by Premier League scoring leader Dimitar
Berbatov, handed the league leaders a 3-2 win and a five-point lead over Arsenal at the top of the
Premier League table.
United travelled to St Marys' to taken on Southampton on Saturday in the FA Cup. The Saints are
currently just outside the automatic promotion places in League One; in case anyone needs
reminding, that is the third division of top flight English football - but anyone who didn't know
which one of these two clubs was the current Premier League leaders would have struggled to tell
you.

Being a Gillingham fan is something of a labour of love.
This time, more than any, seems perfect for overlooked Newcastle striker Nile Ranger to jump
into the frame at the Magpies. Now the number nine slot is open after the foray at the end of the
January transfer window, which saw Andy Carroll flying in to John Lennon airport by helicopter, it
leaves the thought of who will take up this monumental task.
U.S. defender Eric Lichaj has been loaned by Aston Villa to League Championship contenders Leeds
United for one month.
Leeds United, having earned promotion last year from League One, are currently sixth in the League
Championship table and are just six points behind in the race for one of two automatic promotion
spots to the English Premier League.

At some imperceptible point, somewhere between January and March, the football season switches
its rhythm. No longer can one look at the league table, work out the gap between your team and the
automatic promotion places, and blithely say, "We can make that gap up". Every match matters, even
though three points won in April are, in the overall scheme of things, worth no more than those won
in August.
With a mere ten games remaining on the calendar, Zak Whitbread is focused on clinching automatic
promotion with Norwich City.
It will take a brave person to guess who will claim the Championship's second automatic promotion
place as the final push for the Premier League and a £90m jackpot hots up. That is of course
assuming leaders Queens Park Rangers go on to take top spot - Neil Warnock's side are 10 points
clear of third place with nine games to go.

Ireland striker Shane Long is refusing to rule out a move to the Premier League - but he insists
his burning ambition is to get there with Reading.
Long was again instrumental in Reading's 2-1 win over Preston this evening, providing the pass for
Jimmy Kebe to put the Royals in front and being a constant menace in front of goal.

QPR Official Site/FA Official Site - FA Statement.
The final day of the Football League season inevitably brings shredded nerves, and yesterday
brought an unfolding drama with a hint of familiarity to it at the bottom of League Two, with
Lincoln City and Barnet playing to avoid relegation into the Football Conference. Lincoln started
the day two points ahead of Barnet, but with an inferior goal difference.
As the Football League season comes to a close fans up and down the country are studying
fixtures, league tables and injury lists in order to work out whether their side will earn
promotion, or avoid relegation from their current division. However far these fans go with analysis
it's unlikely they'll ever get as far as an obscure Football League Regulation, 9.
For so much of this season, Cardiff City's promotion to the Premier League has had a feeling of
the inevitable about it. Perhaps it was the arrival of Craig Bellamy on loan from Manchester City
at the start of the season. Bellamy has matured with age, and had the feel of being a player around
which Dave Jones could build a team capable of getting back into the top division of English
football for the first time in half a century.
Reading's comprehensive 3-0 victory at the Cardiff City Stadium last night left the home side's
supporters with a distinct feeling of deja vu. Even if last season's play-off defeat in a spanking
brand new stadium came in the final at Wembley, the pain of missing out on a promotion decider with
arch rivals Swansea City in a fortnight's time will be felt just as intensely in the Welsh
capital.
In League One, the sense that this was to be the year of the south coast started to grow as
winter turn to spring. Brighton & Hove Albion soared away at the top of the table, and as the home
straight of the season came into view, the pre-season favourites Southampton also began to pull
away into the distance, themselves securing an automatic promotion place with a couple of games of
the season still to spare.
Your team is busy fluffing its chance of automatic promotion to football's top table in spectacular
fashion, 3-0 down at home to a side who've struggled all season and who have nothing to play for.
So how do you react? Redouble your efforts, clinging to the hope that you might somehow defy the
odds? Or take out your frustrations with a cowardly assault on an assistant referee and then trot
off
Norwich City achieved the unthinkable as they completed back to back promotions to make a return to
the promise land of the Premier League after winning 1-0 to Portsmouth at Fratton Park.
After sitting at the foot of League 1 just 20 months ago after an opening day 7-1 drubbing defeat
to local rivals Colchester, the appointment of Paul Lambert, who was the opposition's manager that
day, has proved to be the shrewdest piece of business in the club's history.
