And I don't understand it. The silly season is well underway and these pieces of brilliance are
still with clubs in leagues below their level - some well below it.Each has had numerous suitors
come and go without a transfer taking place and each would be a bargain of well less than €10
million - in fact, our top three wouldn't require half that much money to pry loose.

There won't be any Gooners travelling to Amsterdam this summer (at least not for footballing
reasons anyhow!), after Ajax announced that Arsenal aren't participating in this year's LG
Amsterdam Tournament 2009. Instead, Arsene Wenger's side are replaced by fellow Premier League club
Sunderland.
[Photo: KSV Superfund]Kapfenburg SV striker Preston Zimmerman has scored again, this one in a
losing Stiegl-Cup cause on Tuesday night. The American entered at the break and had his side level
in only a minute, netting his second in three games.Zimmerman would nearly put his side ahead
moments later, but the Superfund boys eventually fell 2-1 on a late goal by second flight leaders
SC Magna.
Arsenal will continue their pre-season excursions to Austria with the news that the Gunners' will
play a Viennese amateur team next month. SC Columbia have announced a friendly against Arsene
Wenger's side which has been scheduled for the 21st July. The game at the Wiener Stadtliga is
already being dubbed the biggest in the Floridsdorf-based [.

It's time to get you all caught up on a few Americans Abroad transfer items. Sorry it took me a

a Bundesliga club (thought to be Hamburg, but I can't confirm) in the race for Hammarby strike ace

This is it! The final World Cup qualifier! Are you excited?
Yeah, neither is anybody else. Let's still hope for a good showing.
As Jeff discussed, Serbia's win over Romania means France has no chance to go top of the group.
France's win over Faroe Islands means that France is guaranteed the second-place playoffs.
How not to get the ref on your side In modern football, a tackle from behind is always likely to
get you at least a booking. But if the tackle from behind also happens to be on the referee then
you really are asking for trouble. The two teams are Austrian outfits Rapid Vienna and Kapfenburg.

Well, there's one thing you can't hold against Fabio Capello and that's that he keeps his cards
close to his chest. Today he's announced that Peter Crouch will lead the England attack against
Ukraine tomorrow night and deservedly so. Crouch has been the victim of some vicious criticism over
the last few seasons, undeservedly so [.

[Photo: KSV Superfund]It's only halftime at Linz, but Kapfenberg striker Preston Zimmerman has rung
the bell to put his side up 2-0. The American did not start the match, entering on the half hour -
nine minutes later, he netted his third league goal of the season from a corner kick.I'll post the
clip here when it goes up.
Terrible news for all Arsenal fans; Samir Nasri this morning in Austria has sustained a
fractured Fibula which will mean he is out for 2 -3 months.
The official Arsenal website reported:
Samir Nasri has sustained a fractured fibula during this morning's training session at the
Club's pre-season training camp in Austria.
Well, a press conference was held a few days back with regards to the new investors who were
mentioned the post before. The deal has been confirmed, as most people expected, but still the
names have not been revealed. Even at AEK only a few people (Notias, maybe Thanopoulos) know who
they are.
Reminder Perhaps it was the explosive start off the blocks to the transfer season before settling
into a silent slumber, but it seems big time club football is still ages and ages away. But
strangely enough, it's precisely the opposite. Both the Champions and Europa leagues are already in
full swing while Switzerland was first off [.
This first summer transfer Top 5 List is taking a long time to put together (so many shrewd
shoppers!) and it won't be ready 'til tomorrow, sooooo I thought I would give a little sustenance
thought morsel. With the transfer window now closed, I will share my yearly exercise of predicting
champions for a whole slew of top flight European leagues.
On an international break Tuesday, this qualifies as noteworthy all Austria's Paul Scharner has
to do now is suffer disfiguring burns on one side of his face and he'll be a Batman villain.

[Photo: Kapfenburg SV]I'm still doing some last minute research on my Top 5 List and the A few
things... post will surely beat it to the blog, but first let's take a moment to salute American
goal scorer Preston Zimmerman, who started Kapfenburg's key 2-1 survival win over fifth place
Kärnten right.
No hard feelings, right? Howard Webb spent the tail end of last summer in a dark, damp cave trying
to hide from much of Poland. After his controversial penalty call against Poland - though not
nearly as controversial as Poland#8217;s opening goal which was well offside (many seem to have
conveniently forgotten) - you could hardly [.

Well, it looks like everything is over with Leonardo for at least six months. Levadeiakos have
said that he is an important member of the team (well that was kind of obvious) and AEK have
released an official announcement on their site (although its in Greek) confirming that we have
stopped trying to sign him.
The jinx continues for Arsenal. There is no point in signing so many players when you are going to
lose them through injuries even before the season starts. Samir Nasri, the France and Arsenal
midfielder, had broken his right fibula during a training session in Bad Waltersdorf, in
south-eastern Austria.
I have been travelling around in Europe for a month, and although with the break, there wasn't much
football on my busy programme, I did nevertheless notice some things:-I was in Barcelona when R.D.
Espanyol inaugurated their new stadium by winning a 3-0 victory against Liverpool. I have always
felt some sympathy for Español for being the "little guys" in Barcelona, and was happy to see them
play
France ran out comfortable winners over Austria.

Towards the end of Frances' 3-1 win over Austria in the Stade de France, one wacky and totally
original soul ran out on the pitch, waving a French flag. Unfortunately, this human waste of time
didn't wear the right shoes for pitch invading, and so he went down hard right at midfield, before
scrambling to his feet and evading stewards just so he could get taken down with a proper crunch
moments later.

The Europa League rounds of 32 and 16 were drawn this afternoon, with Clint Dempsey and Fulham
staring directly into a tie against UEFA Cup holders Shakhtar Donetsk and Tim Howard's Everton
squared off against Sporting Lisbon. As you may remember, I wildly predicted that an American would
appear in the first Europa League final before the season began.
