Majura junior, Kofi Danning to star for Sydney FC Youth and Sam Munro in the Sydney squad see
below....
ACT Young Rockets have been training for the past four weeks and look like they have a number of
fixtures against A-League Youth teams lined up.
They could start as early as the opening A-League Youth League round against Sydney FC if all goes
to plan on Friday 26th September, with further games against the Central Coast, Newcastle Jets and
possibly Melbourne Jets to follow.
Many Canberrans will know Steve Hogg and the wonderful player he was...well this isn't about
him!
Rather Kahlia Hogg, Steve's daughter, has made the Australian Under 17 Squad. Well done Kahlia.
Like famous Canberran footballing names, Milovanovic, Giampaolo, Valeri, Lustica and others it has
to be in the genes.
This weeks poddies.

Good job Fozzie. SBS Commentator Craig Foster has hit at the heart of many, many people's thoughts
in his recent article. Craig Foster discusses registrations fees, State and Club coffers and FFA's
"our hands our tied," response.
Indeed I'm forever having to defend the cost to friends of football registration compared to other
codes.

feedback and comments): Ins Mark Birighitti, Sasa Ognenovski, Daniel Mullen, Alemão, Scot

The Maybes The following players should earn caps during the course of the career. The question is
more how many and how significant their contribution to the Socceroos will be. Mark Milligan - Did
Mark Milligan's Socceroo career reach its peak with his selection for the 2006 World Cup and his
involvement in the 2007 Asian Cup?
I've tried to select a realistic team with players playing in their actual positions during the
qualifying games. I went with a 4-5-1 because it has been the dominant formation for all the teams:
Goalkeeper: Mark Schwarzer (Aus) - Conceding only two goals, he was a pretty obvious choice. He
came up with important saves in [.
Socceroos, Matildas, A-League and now Youth League.
A pathway.
For who?
For our children.
Trey O'Sullivan is 11, trains with Melbourne Victory for a day. The skills, the pathway the
future.
And in Melbourne of all places home of the AFL.
Funny how we could never see an eleven year old Mark Viduka.
In a previous article about changes to youth development in Australia, I documented the
implementation of small sided games at junior levels. Another key change which must occur is
encouragement of kids to play futsal, a game which is often referred to as indoor football but this
description does not fully recognise how different futsal [.
At the end of the second A-League season, Gary van Egmond's team lost Johnny Warren Medal Winner,
Nick Carle, as well as the likes of Paul Okon and Milton Rodriguez. He then guided the Jets to the
Championship despite pre-season predictions of doom and gloom. He performed a minor miracle. With
just over a month [.
I like my football, with a passionate crowd, something on the line, plenty of skill and the stadium
sold out.
They said we didn't care about Asia, and it's football. Who's they? Well all those Aussie
enlightened sports journo's; you know who they are...the ones that give football a fair go.
The FFA has announced some changes to the salary cap. The main cap will increase from $2.25m to
$2.525 million for next season, a health increase of 12%. The Additional Services Agreement is 25
per cent of the salary cap and consequently, this will increase from $0.56 million to $0.63
million. Each club will also now [.
Bruce Djite out, Nathan Burns out, bu Canberran Nikolai Topor-Stanley is in. The Olyroo squad has
been named, and eleven A-League players are in the 18.
Australian Football's Big Chance
The announcement today of the men's football section of the Australian Olympic team was a
long-awaited reward for eighteen promising athletes.
Former Liverpool playmaker and Australian international, Harry Kewell, is set to move to Turkey's
top side, Galatasaray. His move comes at a time when Turkey seem to be exporting some major talent;
burgeoned on by an outstanding showing at the European Championships, players such as Tucay and
Nihat saw their international football stock rise dramatically!
Outs Mark Rudan, Ufuk Talay, Ruben Zadkovich, David Zdrilic, Patrick, Ben Vidaic, Mark Milligan,
Juninho, Brendan Renaud, Mark Robertson. Kosmina (not necessarily Sydney FC) won't really miss any
of the above players other than Milligan. Kosmina clearly didn't want to play Zadkovich. Rudan left
mid-season, Talay has been adequately replaced while Juninho was constantly injured.
It has been awhile since I was able to bring you an interview. This is my first interview with a

interview given that the Women's National Team are coming off an successful campaign at the 2007

Two Australians faced off in the world's most lucrative football game, a game worth a mind boggling
£60 million for the victors. In the end, it was Richard Garcia's Hull City that prevailed
after a wonder-strike by wily veteran Dean Windass. The First Half The first chance for Nick Carle
came around the 17th minute when he [.
Another important win, another three points, another clean sheet and another big step towards the
second group stage for Verbeek's men. There are a lot of talking points arising from this game
because certain aspects of Australia's play were highly impressive while in other areas, major
concerns arose.
Nathan Burns has signed for AEK Athens. Thank god it wasn't Norwegian side Brann Bergen and of course his mate Bruce Djite has aready gone to Turkey.
Good moves for our best young talent. They stayed in Australia, impresssed in the A-League, shone at times in the Asian Champions League and played a key role in getting the Olyroos to the Olympics.
The match report to follow, hopefully tomorrow, but I thought I might first highlight some of the
reactions to the game and the ramifications: The game against China is now a glorified friendly.
For once, we don't have to suffer through a do-or-die affair. We will also be missing David Carney,
Mark Schwarzer and Luke Wilkshire [.
Group: Australia, Japan, Uzbekistan, Qatar and Bahrain. Schedule: Uzbekistan (A), Qatar (H),
Bahrain (A), Japan (A), Uzbekistan (H), Qatar (A), Bahrain (H), Japan (H) Other Group: Korea
Republic, Iran, Saudi Arabia, North Korea and United Arab Emirates. Australia hasn't been handed an
easy draw but it also isn't the hardest group possible either.
The Green and Gold Army have 11,000 members. I'm a member:) Their full voice is gathering to give
it to Channel Seven. See the release below. Channel 7, it has to be said are hell bent on
destroying Australian football fans and Olyroos supporters' vision of the Olyroos games.
Live football.
There is already some excellent previews to the season out there, I especially recommend jumping
over to Australian Football where they have provided a fantastic breakdown of each team.
As I couldn't possibly improve on that analysis I am going to take a different tack. The four visa
squad spots in each team is always a hotly debated item.
Under 20 Coach Young Socceroo Jan Versleijen talks AIS, Youth Coaching and the qualities of the

Asia has tested the Socceroos; and Pim Verbeek now has a depth of player few could have dreamed of
after the last World Cup.
SBS Football Analyst and Former Socceroo Craig Foster was a guest on the Nearpost this week.
Fozzie, as he's known to many, gave us his views of a range of topics.

"I'm hoping for a good game of football, crowds are up, exceptional atmospheres, and
I hope we get another record crowd at the SFS (Sydney Football Stadium).
In 2006, John O'Neil announced that the FFA had signed a television contract with Foxtel worth $120
million which would secure for Foxtel the broadcast rights to basically all top-level domestic
football as well as Australian internationals for the next seven years. Everything was given to
Foxtel, except for the next two World Cups.
The Daily Telegraph have printed this: Football to surpass TV revenues for Rugby League
THE battle of Australia's football codes is not confined to western Sydney, with soccer's TV rights
tipped to rival AFL when a new deal is nutted out in 2013.
Leading media buyer and analyst Harold Mitchell claims soccer could surpass the NRL's $500 million
deal and rub shoulders with the AFL.
France Currently, Australia has no players in France. Of the current generation, very few players
have spent time in France. Talay spent half a season in Ligue 2. The only player who has spent
substantial time there is Sterjovski who's first overseas port of call was Lille. He spent four
seasons playing regular football there before moving [.
It was a pulsating game as Nick Carle's Bristol City took a big step towards Wembley and the
world's most financially rewarding football game. I have only watched a few Championship games in
the last twelve months but this game provided a glowing presentation of the quality of football
that the Championship can produce, despite [.
Note: I haven't had a chance to do a proper edit. Sorry for any mistakes. Verbeek's defensive
tactics were utterly frustrating. Australia didn't look nearly this negative under Hiddink when we
played against the likes of Brazil and Italy. Yes, we are playing a good football team away from
home in adverse conditions.
A host of players who were pivotal to Australia's progress to the next round have been allowed to
return to their European clubs. The list consists of Vince Grella, Scott McDonald, Brett Emerton,
Mark Bresciano, Mark Schwarzer, Nick Carle, David Carney and Luke Wilkshire, while Lucas Neill and
Josh Kennedy will also miss the game.
In my match report, I lambasted the performances of many of our young players. I, critically and
unfortunately, glossed over a very important point. Some of the blame for that game needs to be
shifted to those off the pitch. Alex Tobin, Australia's most capped player, had this to say
(complete article here): "There's so much [.
The Nearpost supports Transact CEO Ivan Slavich.
I believe it's time for all in the Canberra business and football community to support the drive,
and the vision, of Ivan Slavich.
The Canberra Times and ABC's Tim Gavel has written an article about football in this Saturday's
Canberra Times.
Ins Tim Smits, David Dodd, Thomas Oar, Sergio van Dijk and Luke DeVere. The league's youngest team
just got younger during this transfer period. A lot has been said about teen prodigy Thomas Oar
while Tim Smits has carried his hot state league form into the pre-season games for his new club,
bagging a goal against Palmeiras.
If history is anything to go by, then at least a handful of this Olyroos squad will go on and
become important future members of the Socceroos. I will go through the squad and look at the
prospects of each player. I won't go through the over-aged players as their role in the senior team
[...]
The performance reminded me of the way we played against China in Kunming except with one big
difference: we had a much better balance between defence and attack and when opportunities arose,
we really bombed forward in numbers and with purpose. Like against China, Pim set out the team to
control the game and [.
A very big truck from SAKAI.
The other codes said Aussies didn't care about the Asian Champions League.
Well here's evidence to show they do.
Adelaide United just 900 tickets left for tonights Quater Final against Kashima Antlers. What code
wouldn't like a midweek sell-out!
Thomas Rooney - Freelance Sports Journalist After winning promotion to the Premier League last
season, the majority of football odds were condemning Hull City for relegation even before the new
campaign got underway. However, after six games they find themselves in 6th position after
recording a famous victory over Arsenal last weekend.
