With Montreal being announced as the next Major League Soccer Franchise, it leads you to wonder if
having 20 teams in MLS will be the first step towards a promotion/relegation set-up?
Dennis Justice writes about the future of Major League Soccer, and the potential of promotion and
relegation.
Well, not in so many words, but the Spuds manager talked about the problems he has been facing
on the club's tour of America and we can pretty much see it's not a good idea.
Speaking about the training sessions he said,
I would be a liar if I said it was the perfect way to prepare for the new season, because it is
not.
Perusing the Italian squad earlier, I noticed something odd: people in their early 20's. In fact
there were 7 seven! players 25 or under in Marcello Lippi's squad, which made me think perhaps this
Italy squad was, dare I say, young (comparison and all that). Therefore I hacked out the average
age of the Azzurri and came up with 28.
Today it's group D. With dark horses Serbia lurking behind the favourites Germany and Australia
and Ghana tough opposition, this group is a difficult one to call. A great excuse to choose by
fashion sense and looks then!. Don't forget the stereotypical descriptions of the way the teams
either
The voting for the WAG World Cup Group C is now done and dusted, so there's nothing left to do
but to reveal the results and show you the contenders in Group D. Here are those Group C
results:
England 60%
USA 29%
Slovenia 10%
Algeria 1%
So England and the USA go through, where they will meet one of the following ladies from Group
D, in what looks very much like a 'Group of Death':
1.

The second semi final (you can still vote on the first: England v Australia) is an all-South
American affair, between the classy Adriana Lima of Brazil and the not-so-classy Larissa Riquelme
of Paraguay.
Look at the pics, decide, look again maybe, vote.
There's little doubt how Bob's going to play this World Cup, is there? Two holders in central
midfield, limited forays from the fullbacks, and counter, counter, counter till it hurts...

How convoluted are the politics surrounding this Thursday's FIFA vote to award the hosts for World
Cups 2018 and '22? Well, the first person I saw upon leaving airport customs here was Bora
Milutinovic, the peripatetic Serbian-born, Mexican-based coach who managed the U.S. at World Cup
'94.
"The Body" is working for Australia.
It is on the back of our Kit, on the collar. DC United the winners of twelve international and
domestic trophies, four time winner of MLS cup. The once proud team from our nations capital. The
team hasn't made the playoffs in two years. Now the team can't score against the bottom feeders.
Two games, zero goals, six goals allowed.
mundialista.
The All Whites progress in the World Cup has proven one more talking point. The domestic league
is capable of putting 11 men on the field who are ready to compete.
Pim Verbeek's disregard for the A League as he stocked the Socceroos with overseas talent did
not pay off. He has been openly contemptuous of the national league and only two players with
substantial A League experience were picked, former Brisbane Roar defender Craig Moore and Gold
Coast United skipper Jason Culina.

And the winner of the 2010 Stupendous Supermodel World Cup is... drum roll... Larissa
Riquleme of Paraguay. Who else she was the undisputed No.1 football babe of the
summer.

Still, it's quite remarkable that such a skank should beat several of the world's top
supermodels, including Brazil's Adriana Lima and Australia's Miranda Kerr (in the final, by 52% to
48%), to win the title.
So with the World Cup coming up, many of you will be looking for a team to follow either as a
second team when your team inevitably gets knocked out in the Quarter Finals on Penalties (perhaps
that one is just me) or because your team didn't make it to South Africa. Either way, at some point
you are going to need someone to follow.
The 6 years spent at Old Trafford and the £80 million pocketed by Manchester United for his
transfer to Real Madrid may never have happened had destiny played a different hand for Cristiano
Ronaldo...

With J Hutcherson -- It's hardly fair to go back and start comparing the strength of a lineup t
what it could've been if a game had counted. The United States played Australia on Saturday in an
environment that was odd for both teams, with lineups that were still not whole, and substitutions
that probably wouldn't be made with points on the line.
Before the 2010 World Cup started, who would have expected nations such as Portugal, England,
France and Australia to perform so poorly in the tournament?
But who, out of those four worst teams in the World Cup thus far, has been the worst? Vote below
and share your opinions in the comments section below.
The USA is bidding for the 2018 or 2022 World Cups, the two tournaments up for grabs this December.
The FIFA inspection team is set to arrive next week to tour the proposed facilities, and though
there's a sense the American bid has little chance of getting the 2018 tourney, the committee has
yet to remove themselves from consideration.
PARIS, France - FIFA president Sepp Blatter says Qatar's neighboring countries could host games
at the 2022 World Cup. Qatar was designated the 2022 World Cup last week, despite concerns that the
intense heat poses a serious health risk if the tournament is played in summer. In an interview
with sports daily L'Equipe on Thursday, [.

"A week before the Americans' World Cup opener against England, the United States will play
Australia on June 5 at a venue near Johannesburg. Negotiations were completed in recent days. Live
TV coverage in both countries is expected."
...and there's the third pre-cup friendly I was hoping for.
I will improve the reel as better ones surface and you can look for my first U.S. Player Ratings

Buddle smashes home a goal against Australia
Edson Buddle was a late arrival to the discussion when the United States national team was being
put together, but what an addition he's made.
The hotter-than-Florida-in-August striker scored twice for the U.S. in their 3-1 win over
Australia in a game that was marked by hard tackles and slow action in the second half.
Australia can claim many things: great beaches, excellent indie makeup brands, and even one of
our dearest Kickette staffers, who schlepped off to enjoy temperatures lovely and full of high UV
indexes. Of course, this is also a nation that can claim a rather high abundance of man candy which
we are always appreciative of.
Podolski Takes The Blame For Germany's Shock Loss To Serbia.
After Germany's shock 1-0 loss to Serbia, Podolski held up his hands and shouldered the blame.
Nemanja Vidic's ridiculous handball in the penalty area gave Germany the chance to get back into
the game, having already gone 1-0 down and having Klose sent off.
Ghana lost 1-0 to Germany on Wednesday at Soccer City Stadium, but within seconds of the final
whistle, the Black Stars were celebrating. A group of players ran to the stands, grabbed a Ghanaian
flag from some fans and did a victory lap. The loss mattered little to Ghana. Once the Black Stars
received the news that Australia had defeated Serbia 2-1, they knew they were through to the Round
of 16 as the first (and likely only) African team to advance.
With Fandi Ahmad's contract expiring and the Singaporean international expected to prioritise his
kids' education Pelita Jaya have appointed Misha Radovic as his replacement.
Misha has previously worked in Australia, Japan and Montenegro.
When FIFA voted to hold the 2022 World Cup in
Qatar, it was promoted as "bringing football to a new world and a new culture" as
well as bringing the World Cup to the "entire Middle East." And now, it seems that sentiment
might be taken quite literally by the game's governing bodies as the 2022 World Cup in Qatar may
very well change the way have ever held the tournament before.
Here are some of the World's Sexiest Female Footballers:Sweden's own Josefine Öqvist posed for
Swedish men's magazine Slitz. She was one of the first female athletes to do so. Of course, there
were people who thought this was inappropriate but if Freddie Ljungberg can appear half naked on
billboards, why can't Josefine be in a lad's mag?
The U.S. national team will play its final World Cup tune-up match on June 5 against fellow
World Cup participant Australia in Roodespoort, South Africa, U.S. Soccer announced on Monday. The
match will be broadcast live on ESPN2 at 8:30am ET.
Set to take place Ruimsig Stadium in suburban Johannesburg, the friendly will be played one
week before the United States opens World Cup play vs.
World Cup previews. They can be a bit dull and not particularly helfpul when it comes to
predicting who will qualify from each group. One reason for this is that they focus too much on
things like players and formations and not enough on the really good things. Like quality of
national anthem, team nickname and potential celebrity spokesperson.
Big Story
It's a good idea for fans of young leagues in countries where soccer is not the number one sport
to keep an eye on each other's progress and ideas. Perhaps more than aping long-established leagues
where soccer is a sunk in part of a country's culture, those like myself who want Major League
Soccer to grow could do worse than look at the developments in Australia's
A-League, for example: at both its successes and its failures.
It's all there in black and white, Craig Foster praises Australia's football bloggers as having
more knowledge and insight than the profesional football print journalists...it's all there in his
new book Fozz on Football..so get out and read all about Aussie Fozzie football....

With 48 matches about to take place in the group stage of the World Cup, one must focus his
viewing on a select few. Well, not "must", but rather "might have to". Of the 8 groups in South
Africa, here are my top matches to look out for in each group.
"Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free..."Crazy, in the span
of one Rob Stone report the USMNT friendly tune-up match Saturday with Australia took one on a new
tenor, eh?The initial ESPN report which I saw at the gym had these words flashing across the
screen: "Altidore .
Not a huge fan of letting embedded videos do the work, but this great riff from the season two of
"Flight of the Conchords" episode -- "Unnatural Love" -- sets up nicely from Saturday morning's 3-1
victory by the USMNT over Australia at Roodepoort Super Adventure Fun Land.Suffice to say, Clint
Dempsey must've made some sort of crude Australia joke during the match, or at least challenged
Luke
Resurgent Los Angeles Galaxy forward Edson Buddle scored his first two international goals on
Saturday to lead the United States to a 3-1 win over Australia in a World Cup warmup match.
Substitute forward Herculez Gomez added a third in extra time while starting forward Robbie Findley
had one near miss and hit the crossbar [.
Maybe a little bit of both. David Beckham was at the USA-Australia game and saw his Los Angeles
Galaxy teammates Edson Buddle score twice and Landon Donovan get an assist on the third and final
goal in the 3-1 victory.
