The World Cup winners in 1930 and 1950 became the last team to qualify for South Africa 2010
thanks to a draw with Costa Rica at the Centenario in Montevideo. Substitute

When football pitches explode Australia's Asian Cup qualifier against Oman was pretty bad-tempered
throughout, so when a firecracker went off just metres away from players from both sides it didn't
really help to cool the situation. Spotted on World Cup Blog

Easily the greatest penalty shootout celebration in history. (0.20) Fabio Capello is not such a hit
in Spain. (La Liga Loca) The dam is breaking in Manchester. (EPL Talk) Raymond Domenech: not so
smart. (The Spoiler) Amaral writes a nice, though curious, parting letter. (SoccerLens) Robin van
Persie to get mystery placenta juice treatments.

Well Mark Schwarzer made our luck, even saving the 14th minute penalty to be beaten on the rebound.
Bad luck to Rhys Williams being forced into a foul to give the penalty. But otherwise Oman botched
4 or so goals - just played too fast for their skill level. Criag Moore was lucky not to have given
away a second half hand ball penalty.

Going against what this writer wanted, New Zealand became the 24th nation with a ticket for
South Africa by beating Bahrain at home. The only goal of the match was scored by Rory Fallon in
the final moments of the first-half. The first-leg of this playoff ended 0-0, which gave Bahrain
the chance of qualifying with a draw different from the nil one.

So very late last night Australian time, unfortunately the Aussie girls had their first loss of the

The World Cups have, especially in the start, been the complete dominance of South America and
Europe. Therefore, throughout the 1950's and 1960's, the "rest of the world", that is, Asia, Africa
and Australia had to play between them for one meager qualifying spot. For the 1966 World Cup in
England, this "rest-of-the-world" spot went to the small and closed Communist dictatorship of North
Corea.

out there for their product.
