Apologies for the lack of posting but I came down with a case of bird flu and when you've got
the bird flu you have to adhere to a strict diet of no cigarettes or alcohol which means no blog
posts. But I'm back and slightly intoxicated and here to tell you about this little match we have
coming up on Saturday.
Quarter Finals of the Asian Champions League kick-off tonight with Australia's first club, Adelaide
United, to get to this stage of the competition away in Japan against Kashima Antlers.
Two-legged affair so United will need to score against what should be a very strong Japanese side
and a big big test for Adelaide.
I have a confession to make: I didn't feel too good before this game. We've been playing too poorly
to be in any condition to face United especially without Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres.
I shouldn't have troubled myself because it was pride and determination rather than form that
decided this game.

In my guess at a squad, I'm assuming Gerrard and Torres are fit enough to start, although, like
over the weekend, it'll be a late decision.
A draw would have been enough, so a win is quite and added bonus. Liverpool played well trying to
exploit the gaps left as Marseilles pressed forward but the tiredness from last Saturday showed.
Marseilles, on their part, were very good and had they scored an equalizer no one would have
complained. Their attacking play was full of inventiveness and nice flicks but, fortunately for us,
they were unable to get that final touch right.
Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia has today admitted he will consider his future after been left out
Rafa Benitez' plans for the Champions League. The Finland international has been omitted from the
club's 25-man panel for the Champions League group stages, weeks after the club rejected an offer
from Stoke City for the player.
Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa is eager to set the record straight against Manchester United on
Saturday.
It is almost seven years since Liverpool defeated United in the league on Merseyside, meaning
Arbeloa - who joined the Reds in January 2007 - has yet to take three points from the champions.
Liverpool FC have named both Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard in their squad to face Manchester
United at Anfield tomorrow.
The duo have been forced out in recent weeks with hamstring and groin problems respectively.
Boss Rafa Benitez is hopeful both may feature at some stage.
The greatest thing about beating [finally] Manchester United, is that the lads performed very well
in doing so, and this without Torres and before Gerrard even got on the pitch. Very attack minded,
excellent possession, and dominant for the majority of the match.
How can I even begin to choose a man of the match, there was so many stand out performances.
Despite overcoming Manchester United in their last Premier League encounter, Liverpool manager Rafa
Benitez has issued a caveat to his side ahead of this weekend's clash with Stoke City.
Brazilian full-back Fabio Aurelio is set to remain sidelined with the calf injury that prevented
him taking to the field in the midweek win over Marseille.
Well what a night for Adelaide and Australian Football as a whole. Adelaide United turned in an
excellent performance to send Kashima out of the AFC Champions League and put themselves through to
the final four.
Aurelio Vidmar will be feeling justified for his strategy of resting a majority of his players in
last week's A-League game against Sydney.
It's been an emotional couple of weeks of Adelaide's Robbie Cornthwaite.
The club's foundation defender has not only found himself unwittingly dragged into a spitting storm
but he's also been the target of abuse from his own supporters for scoring a horror own goal in the
away leg of the AFC Champions League quarter-final against Kashima Antlers
But on Wednesday night in Adelaide, Cornthwaite banished all those demons with a tie-winning headed
goal which secured a 2-1 aggregate win over the 10-time Japanese champions and a passage into the
final four.
