Of course, I couldn't pass on the chance to get a Galaxy reaction to this whole thing. In between
tapings of our Alexi Lalas interviews, I went ahead and asked him about Landon Donovan and Preki,
and as usual Alexi did not disappoint.
He said he was taken aback a bit that it was Preki who was complaining.
Preki took time out to talk to us today. He talked about Wicky, Cardozo, Panchito, etc.
Here's the audio. The first question is about Raphael Wicky.
Since we're now four days after the fact and readers are still interested in the Donovan-Ianni
incident, I'll post the audio from Patrick Ianni. I used a lot of what he said in my post-match
sidebar for MLSnet.com.
I didn't get to ask Ianni any questions, though. Scott French took care of asking the questions and
he pretty much asked everything I had planned on asking him.
Brad Guzan and Preki addressed a few of us scribes today. I recorded the whole thing and will post
audio accordingly. I've got plenty to say about this and will do so over the next few days but for
now here's just a snippet of the mini-presser.
As promised, audio of Abel Xavier talking derby. Say what you will about his play, he's always a
great person to talk to.
As always, the Super Clasico brings forth quite a bit of emotions from players on both sides. The
games themselves are heated and intense but after the match is when the emotions can sometimes
spill over.
Chivas' locker room after April's 5-2 loss was very quiet. It was quiet there a lot during April
and early May but that match was particularly quiet.
When Chivas USA acquired Carey Talley, I figured he'd man the right back slot until Lawson Vaughn
was healthy enough. I didn't realize that he'd become such an integral part of the squad, so much
so that The Law may not play right back provided he gets back healthy and Talley stays healthy.
I had the chance to catch up with Carey after the match as he was holding his new but fully
drenched Santos Laguna jersey.
The folks at U.S. Soccer (and by folks I mean David Applegate) caught up with United Head Coach
Tom Soehn and Charleston Battery Head Coach Mike Anhaeuser earlier today to talk about Wednesday's
night's U.S. Open Cup final. Both interviews were originally posted on ussoccer.com.
Tom Soehn:
Mike Anhaeuser:
Game time is 7:30 p.
Here's about seven or eight minutes worth of conversation with Bob Bradley.
At the end, I asked him about Jonathan Bornstein and his trip to Israel. Bob wanted to reply off
the record, so I shut off the recorder. Sorry, but I've got to respect that.
Greg Vanney said he felt the Galaxy was disjointed from the start. Audio of his thoughts here.
Audio of the Galaxy's post-game press conference.
Here's audio of what Landon Donovan had to say about the Galaxy's 4-0 loss to Colorado.
After talking to Greg Vanney in a nearly-empty (in terms of reporters) Galaxy locker room, I waited
for Chris Klein to get ready. He was getting treatment or something before getting showered and
dressed. After he was ready to talk, I got first dibs on a conversation. About halfway through our
chat, or maybe even a few minutes in, the mass hordes of reporters crowded around us.
Rapids fans, here's the entire post-game presser. Not really a whole lot different than the stuff
below but I got the chance to ask Fernando Clavijo about the red card to Facundo Erpen and he had
some interesting comments about it.
Bobby Burling wasn't the only Chivas USA player who was new to the Clasico. Carey Talley joined
Chivas shortly after the first game and though he was injured when he arrived, he's been a great
pickup for the club.
He's filled in well at the right back spot and at this point figures to keep Lawson Vaughn on the
bench whenever the Law returns healthy.
Gabriel Caballero was the most talkative of the Pachuca lot on Sunday, at least of the players who
stopped by to chat with the media.
Miguel Calero walked by and several different reporters - all from Spanish-language outlets - asked
Calero if he'd answer questions. Calero pointed at them, nodded his head and kept right on walking.
Matias Vuoso spoke to reporters after the match. He's a Spanish speaker so read on if you want to
hear his palabras.
Vuoso kept it brief. He basically said that Chivas had one chance and put it away while Santos had
many but couldn't do anything with them.
Here's his audio.
Jesse Marsch didn't seem too happy after the match. He is usually in decent spirits even after
losses. That wasn't the case on Sunday. And I wasn't about to take a picture of him that way.
I asked Jesse all of the questions on the audio clip here. So
most of the time he was looking right at me.
Sonny boy! After the Clausura 2008 season, I would have bet money that Sonny Guadarrama would not
have made it through the summer unscathed. A new coach came in midseason (Luis Fernando Tena) and
Guadarrama saw zero playing time with the first team once that happened.
But Guadaramma made it and his prospects are pretty good - at earning playing time that is.
Just got back. Writing furiously but wanted to post up the audio of the post-match press conference
featuring Preki and Roberto Nurse.
Audio of it here.
Now back to writing!
Santino Quaranta was actually one to stick up for the referees. Well, he didn't exactly say that
referee Terry Vaughn's terrible call was correct but he tried to talk about both sides of the
issue.
Here's audio of my little chat with Santino.
He was actually a bit disconsolate, but it was mostly to do with his ankle.
Marc Burch wasn't as down as I expected him to be after the match. He was talking as if he'd just
suffered a tough loss - a usual tough loss in which his team lost due to a mistake or three or a
lack of effort.
Saturday's loss was an unusual tough loss because of a horrid red card that Burch was unfortunate
to have received.
Tom Soehn wasn't one to hold back his thoughts after the DC's 5-2 loss at the Galaxy. He said the
match officials had a rough night before calling the red card against Marc Burch a
"travesty."
I gotta take a bit of credit for the last comment.
At the post game presser, Soehn answered a question about the defense and another about the Galaxy.
Here is some more of Brad Guzan's conversation with us regarding his failed move to England. About
seven minutes here and three or so minutes here.
No Joe Cannon. No Chris Albright.
We're left with Peter Vagenas and Chris Klein as the best options to get a sound bite from. I
should say too that Landon Donovan is always good to talk to if he's around, of course.
I didn't see Pete on Monday (I got to the Galaxy training a little late).
Alecko Eskandarian scored for Chivas USA in their 3-1 win over Real Salt Lake on Saturday. So did
Atiba Harris, his teammate with RSL last season.
That much wasn't lost on him. Audio of Esky post-game, where he talks about that as well as his
injury status.
Actually, the players and coaches were happy with the three points but said they didn't play ver
well.
Here's audio of Preki after Chivas USA's 3-1 win over Real Salt Lake.
A little late but here are some more audio clips from Chivas USA players after their 3-1 win over
RSL on Saturday.
Sacha Kljestan had a goal and an assist and was pretty active on the offensive side of the ball all
night.
Maykel Galindo is not 100 percent fit but was dangerous nonetheless.
Sacha Kljestan has been one of Chivas USA's best players this season, but his late red card against
Columbus put a damper on what was a tough loss for the club.
Here's audio of a little chat I had with Kljestan about his red card and missing the FC Dallas
match.
Ante Razov brings out the boos. It seems like fans either love him or hate him. Galaxy fans
seemingly love to hate Razov. He's actually given the Galaxy fits over the years. He's still the
Fire's all-time leading scorer against the Galaxy and has scored more Clasico goals than any other
player, at least in their regular season matchups.
Audio of Chivas USA coach Preki from Sunday's press conference following Chivas USA's 2-1 loss to
New England.
Audio of my little chat with New York's Danleigh Borman following Saturday's 2-1 win over the
Galaxy.
After listening to the Wizards in the post-game presser, I made a quick dash to their locker room.
I had enough time to talk to one KC player, so I talked to the one I knew would give me some good
stuff. Here's my little chat with Jimmy Conrad.
I thought about sticking around and saying hi to Kevin Hartman but he was in the middle of an
interview and I wanted to make it over to the Galaxy locker room before everyone left.
Brian Ching scored two goals. Perhaps that will silence the critics? Or maybe, given the opponent,
it won't.
Audio of Ching here.
Michael Bradley scored a goal for his dad on Father's Day.
Audio of young Michael's thoughts on that and the match in general.
I tried to get some audio up of Ante Razov following Saturday night's match but the internet was
giving me problems.
Anyway, a bit later than I'd wanted to but here's audio of the post-game interview from Ante
Razov.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I had the original Landon Donovan audio clip on my digital
recorder when I was out at training on Tuesday. I played it for Brad Guzan, Sacha Kljestan, Jesse
Marsch and Preki. I wondered how they'd react, if they'd react at all.
Perhaps the most telling reaction was not in what they said - at least Marsch and Preki - but how
they looked.
Among the players who have surprised for Chivas USA this season is Bobby Burling, who few could
have predicted would have become so valuable for the club this season.
How long has Burling come this season? When the Galaxy and Chivas met for the first time this
season, he wasn't even in uniform.
Edgar Castillo was a popular player following Wednesday's match. Because he can speak English and
is a key player for Santos Laguna, it was easier for the English reporters to deal with him. In
general, it's easier to deal with anyone directly when you don't lose anything in translation.
But Edgar did field some questions in Spanish.
If you want to say Roberto Nurse's last name correctly, it's like this: noor-say. In Spanish, of
course, every syllable is prounounced so you don't get silent a -gh thrown into the middle of the
word or a silent letter at the end. Thus, in an English word like Nurse when prouncouned in Spanish
is noor-say.
