Alexi Lalas talks about David Beckham's injury and the team's situation.
I asked him about the friendlies the team has scheduled in October and November.
Houston's Dwayne De Rosario talks about the lifeless Galaxy.
Bonus points if you can tell me what that song is that Houston celebrated their victory with.
Landon Donovan after the loss to Real Salt Lake.
I got there late so there's no talk from him about his missed PK but he talks about a lot of other
stuff.
Here's the opening statements from Shawn Hunter and Antonio Cue. There's some Spanish in the
beginning but it's mostly all in English. Hunter's Spanish is, he said, a work-in-progress.
And here is about 10 minutes worth of our questions and answers.
Galaxy coach Frank Yallop and midfielder Landon Donovan on the 3-0 loss to Chivas USA.
Real Salt Lake's locker room was a somewhat festive place after their 2-1 win over the Galaxy on
Saturday. I talked to Eddie Pope who was quite talkative as well as Nick Rimando, among others.
I asked Pope about his goal and about their playoff aspirations.
Rimando, meanwhile, was pretty blunt about the penalty kick Landon Donovan took.
I didn't have time to stick around for the whole thing because I had to get to RSL's locker room
but here's some of what Frank Yallop had to say after the Galaxy's loss to Real Salt Lake.
Here's a cool audio clip from today that only a few of our readers will be able to enjoy.
Claudio Suarez talked to a couple of us today after Chivas USA training. He talked about Cuauhtemoc
Blanco and some games he remembers playing with and against him. It starts with his recollection of
the last game he played against him, the second leg of the Apertura 2005 quarterfinals, a match
that Tigres won 4-1 in Azteca to steal the aggregate series by a 5-4 count.
Frank Yallop talks about the team after Friday's training session. He's not quite as candid as he
was after the Pachuca game but he drops an f-bomb, proving he's still got it.
Kyle Martino had some things to say about the loss to Real Salt Lake, the penalty on him that
wasn't a penalty (at least not one that was called) and the coaching situation.
Ante Razov after Chivas USA's 3-0 win over the Red Bulls on Sunday. The first question I jumped in
on was about Sacha Kljestan.
Kyle Martino's finger looked awful. After the game, he was trying to button his shirt but his
purplish finger was pointing out and he couldn't bend it. He was having some problems buttoning his
shirt up but still took some time to answer a few questions about the 3-1 win over Colorado.
Frank Yallop, sounding like a man who has had his spirit broken.
I don't think Mike Randolph's foul on Brian Mullan early in the second half of Sunday's
Houston-Galaxy game was a penalty kick. It may have been a foul - there was contact - but whatever
happened seemed to have happened outside the penalty area.
When you consider that as well as the timing - something like 10 seconds after play resumed - I
thought it was a bit of a gift.
The Galaxy picked up their fifth league win in their 24th match. They now have 21 points and are
officially not in last place in the league standings. Toronto have a worse goal-differential.
Still, to have said that this late in the season is just demonstration of how the mighty have
fallen. But their 2-1 win over FC Dallas maintains whatever playoff hopes the Galaxy had alive.
I covered the Galaxy-FC Dallas match for the Dallas Morning News as well as the Press-Enterprise
and MLSnet.com. I went into FC Dallas' locker room right after the Galaxy post-game presser ended.
I missed coach Steve Morrow but then again so did everyone else. He apparently didn't want to talk
to anyone.
I scrambled initially. I didn't know who I should talk to.
Okay, maybe it's a stretch to call it a streak. But I did so to Jason Kreis and he laughed about
it.
Here's audio of our little post-game chat.
Sorry I'm a little late with this audio but hopefully it's still pertinent.
Colorado fell hard to the Galaxy on Saturday. What made it a bit strange was that the Rapids had
won 3-0 just two weeks earlier against basically the same Galaxy side - no Landon Donovan, no David
Beckham - yet this time the tables were turned.
Fernando Clavijo blamed the Rapids' poor finishing.
Even with Kansas City playing better, Chivas USA pulled out a 2-1 victory thanks to Ante Razov's
clutch late game strike. They also clinched a playoff spot in the process.
Here's audio of Chivas USA coach Preki at the post-game press conference.
