Audio of David Beckham following Wednesday's match.
The 4-6 weeks diagnosis was one he made but then took back, but I guess it's not like a courtroom
where the judge can tell the jury to disregard a comment as "Beckham out Six Weeks" was splashed
across some web sites this morning.
Alexi Lalas talks about David Beckham's injury and the team's situation.
I asked him about the friendlies the team has scheduled in October and November.
Many soccer fans continually express their dismay at what they claim is lack of coverage of soccer
on ESPN. MLS Commissioner Don Garber was asked today about that very topic. A reporter started to
say that ESPN televises games but that they don't follow it up with highlights and other coverage
on SportsCenter when Garber interrupted him and said...
Listen to the audio clip for his response.
Houston's Dwayne De Rosario talks about the lifeless Galaxy.
Bonus points if you can tell me what that song is that Houston celebrated their victory with.
Landon Donovan after the loss to Real Salt Lake.
I got there late so there's no talk from him about his missed PK but he talks about a lot of other
stuff.
Kyle Martino talks about the Pachuca-Galaxy match, SuperLiga and David Beckham.
Audio of it here.
Alexi Lalas spoke with a group of us scribes the day before the Galaxy-D.C. SuperLiga match. Here's
audio of it, about seven minutes worth.
He hits on a lot of topics as always and really tries to absolve a lot of whatever blame there is
to go around for the Beckham situation. At one point, he even points the finger at Beckham saying
"ultimately it was the players' decision" to play against Chelsea, which Beckham admitted set him
back at least a week.
Here's the opening statements from Shawn Hunter and Antonio Cue. There's some Spanish in the
beginning but it's mostly all in English. Hunter's Spanish is, he said, a work-in-progress.
And here is about 10 minutes worth of our questions and answers.
The Galaxy-Chivas match is expected to draw some 40,000 fans, not quite the 70,000-plus many had
assumed would show up when the game and site was first announced.
Still, there will be plenty of fans there regardless, and most won't be rooting for L.A.
Here's audio of Landon Donovan talking about the game. I asked him about playing in the Coliseum
and the support for the match, both for the visitors and for his own side.
Galaxy coach Frank Yallop and midfielder Landon Donovan on the 3-0 loss to Chivas USA.
David Beckham talks about his injury and the SuperLiga final as well as England and the European
Championship.
Incidentally, this picture was not from today. They wore different training shirts today.
Ante Razov chimes in on the Clasico.
I paused the recorder during my first question so that's why it sounds strange at the start.
Otherwise, it should play right through.
Hugo Sanchez talks about the loss to Guatemala.
If you hear a faint voice in English, it's because I was near the English translator. The room was
really cramped and I didn't have the chance to stand next to the speaker.
Landon Donovan was solid and patriotic on Wednesday.
Well, this Landon is always like that, but the real Landon had a solid performance against the
Fire.
Here's audio of what he had to say after the game.
For the first time since late May, Jonathan Bornstein was a part of Chivas USA. After the club's
2-0 win over FC Dallas on May 26, Bornstein left for the U.S. national team and experienced the
highs and lows of the United States' summer. He was a key member of both the Gold Cup-winning U.S.
squad and the Copa America 0-and-3 squad.
I caught up with Bornstein after Tuesday's training session and asked him about his summer and his
thoughts on pursuing a European contract.
David Beckham was asked if he feels like he got the last laugh on former Real Madrid boss Fabio
Capello, who all but discarded Beckham in January only to have the Englishman help lead a Real
resurgence down the stretch. Beckham is beginning his new life in L.A. while Capello was sacked
despite Real's La Liga title.
Anyway, here's audio of Beckham's response, which starts off with "I don't look at it like that.
I forgot my digital recorder last week for the Chivas-Galaxy match, but I had it with me today.
Here's Frank Yallop talking about the SuperLiga final. He didn't really have much to say, as usual,
so I only recorded about five minutes' worth. Plus, I called in to the "Around the League in 90
Minutes" show to give them an update on Goldenballs.
Real Salt Lake's locker room was a somewhat festive place after their 2-1 win over the Galaxy on
Saturday. I talked to Eddie Pope who was quite talkative as well as Nick Rimando, among others.
I asked Pope about his goal and about their playoff aspirations.
Rimando, meanwhile, was pretty blunt about the penalty kick Landon Donovan took.
Well, not as in give them a pink slip or give them anything at all. But here's some audio of
interviews with Chris Armas and Jon Busch.
As a whole, the Fire players seemed pretty bummed out with the match. Chris Armas was barely taking
off his cleats when I caught up to him. He tried to look at some of the positives but also
addressed the lack of offense.
I didn't have time to stick around for the whole thing because I had to get to RSL's locker room
but here's some of what Frank Yallop had to say after the Galaxy's loss to Real Salt Lake.
Here's a cool audio clip from today that only a few of our readers will be able to enjoy.
Claudio Suarez talked to a couple of us today after Chivas USA training. He talked about Cuauhtemoc
Blanco and some games he remembers playing with and against him. It starts with his recollection of
the last game he played against him, the second leg of the Apertura 2005 quarterfinals, a match
that Tigres won 4-1 in Azteca to steal the aggregate series by a 5-4 count.
Denis Hamlett didn't seem too upset after the match. This was my first time talking to the man so
maybe he is always calm and level-headed but still I was expecting a bit more frustration from
him.
Here's an audio link to a post-game interview with Hamlett.
Joe Cannon chimes in. He must have been hot as hell in this outfit.
Here's the audio of the interview/impromptu presser Frank Yallop had as Friday's Galaxy training
session wrapped up.
It's almost all Beckham talk and it's a good 11 minutes long, but it's worth the listen.
Jesse Marsch talks about the fatigue factor facing Jonathan Bornstein, Landon Donovan and David
Beckham ahead of tonight's Chivas USA-Galaxy match.
CF Pachuca is going to donate a portion of their $1 million prize to Hurricane Dean victims in the
Mexican state of Hidalgo, of which Pachuca is the capital. Miguel Calero said the players were
getting a 35 percent cut of the $1 million prize and from that they were donating funds to the
people of Hidalgo. He mentioned the hard-hit areas of Tulancingo and Tizayuca as areas which they
would be helping out with donations.
Frank Yallop talks about the team after Friday's training session. He's not quite as candid as he
was after the Pachuca game but he drops an f-bomb, proving he's still got it.
Kyle Martino had some things to say about the loss to Real Salt Lake, the penalty on him that
wasn't a penalty (at least not one that was called) and the coaching situation.
Ante Razov after Chivas USA's 3-0 win over the Red Bulls on Sunday. The first question I jumped in
on was about Sacha Kljestan.
Some questions from Andres Cantor to Bob Bradley.
Audio here.
After the David Beckham presentation was over and all the confetti floated down to the ground, the
throngs of media scattered. Some media members received yellow stickers on their credentials, some
red and others blue. Apparently, yellow was for the international media, red for the national media
and blue for us locals.
Each color got you into a different event suite, and the Galaxy were going to take David Beckham
and others around.
Chris Klein talks about the Galaxy's loss to Tigres. The first question he's responding to is about
the red card.
Audio of it here.
Abel Xavier is a good guy to have on your team. He's played at the highest level for both club and
country and knows what it takes to get there. Still, I was taken aback a bit by what Frank Yallop
had to say about him.
A colleague of mine actually pointed it out while we talked about the mess that is the Galaxy.
Yallop was asked about leadership after the Galaxy lost to Tigres 3-0.
Whatever stories you read earlier today or will read sometime tomorrow with Frank Yallop quotes
probably came from this impromptu press conference. I didn't record the entire thing but I was
there from the start of the mobbing (many reporters crowded around Yallop here) and walked away a
bit before the stopped talking.
Here's audio of Yallop.
Abel Xavier is great. He's part experienced soccer player, part philosopher. Absolutely great
combination.
Listen to this audio clip where he talks about playing against Mexican teams, the travel part of
the U.S. game and marathons.
This audio clip doesn't really have to do with the SuperLiga final, well, not much to do with
anything at all I suppose, as far as the Galaxy's on-the-field performances goes, but Joe Cannon
talked with a German TV crew for a few minutes yesterday.
The first response is to a question about how David Beckham has affected Joe's life.
I was standing behind the new rope the Galaxy has introduced to keep the players away from us (or
is it the other way around?
Kyle Martino's finger looked awful. After the game, he was trying to button his shirt but his
purplish finger was pointing out and he couldn't bend it. He was having some problems buttoning his
shirt up but still took some time to answer a few questions about the 3-1 win over Colorado.
Frank Yallop, sounding like a man who has had his spirit broken.
I don't think Mike Randolph's foul on Brian Mullan early in the second half of Sunday's
Houston-Galaxy game was a penalty kick. It may have been a foul - there was contact - but whatever
happened seemed to have happened outside the penalty area.
When you consider that as well as the timing - something like 10 seconds after play resumed - I
thought it was a bit of a gift.
I covered the Galaxy-FC Dallas match for the Dallas Morning News as well as the Press-Enterprise
and MLSnet.com. I went into FC Dallas' locker room right after the Galaxy post-game presser ended.
I missed coach Steve Morrow but then again so did everyone else. He apparently didn't want to talk
to anyone.
I scrambled initially. I didn't know who I should talk to.
