We dominated the Norwegians for 80 minutes of the game, but unfortunately it was Norway that
scored a goal. The players displayed an extraordinary attitude and gave all they had to give
showing us we can rely on them for the future! [read more]

Arsene Wenger has accepted a charge of improper conduct and an £8,000 fine by the FA following
his tap on Martin Atkinson's back at the end of the Premier League match with Sunderland on
Saturday...
Wenger will serve a one-match touchline ban during the League Cup third-round clash at rivals
Tottenham (he could have deferred the ban, I believe), which although it's a derby tells you all
you need to know about his continued dismissive attitude to the competition.
There really is little else around so I thought I'd reflect on the start to the season, and one
player in particular who looks re-born -Tomas Rosicky
This summer he was close to leaving, not of his own will I hastily add, but there has always
been big interest from Germany in him but Werder Bremen and Everton both inquired over his
availability as Arsenal were pursuing defenders from both the clubs, Phil Jagielka and Per
Mertesacker were the targets on the Arsenal side.
Poor old Ilkeston Town. They bit the dust over a debt of just £47,000 and it seems unlikely
that they will be the last to be made to suffer this way. There will be plenty more clubs that find
themselves at the High Court on The Strand in London having hunted down the back of the
metaphorical sofa, gambling the very existence of their institution after having skipped paying one
of their most basic obligations: their tax bill.
This is truly unbelievable! Some lads are just so worried about the attitude they forget to
finish business....

What happens when an 18-year-old young footballer disrespects the coach and his teammates and
gets penalized for it? In Santos' case, the club fires the coach and gives God powers to the little
punk.
Dorival Junior got sacked today for keeping Neymar from playing, after the forward disrespected
fellow Santos' teammates and cursed at the coach.
Dissect the West Brom game as much as you want, but it won't make any difference to the
result.
I sat through the whole game in the Clock End Upper (love saying that as opposed to the South

miserable afternoon.
The sale of Robinho has marked the end of an era for Manchester City. The Brazilian arrived with
high expectations of taking City to the next level and in a strange way he has sort lived up to the
expectations.
City fans will look back fondly to the day of Robinho's arrival.

Although my predictions of new signings before the Huddersfield game proved incorrect, we are
likely to see at least one of Parky's hat-trick of signings in some capacity when we venture down
to Oggy Land.
Exeter are yet to win this season in the league although they are still undefeated at home with
a couple of draws against Bristol Rovers and Colchester so it's not going to be an easy game.
On this day, September 2nd, William "Bill" Shankly was born 98 years ago. He passed
away on September 29th, 1981, but not before giving a life of service to the club he loved:
Liverpool FC. After a playing career at Preston North End and earning 5 caps with Scotland, Shankly
managed at Anfield from 1959 to 1974.

Colorado Rapids forward Omar Cummings was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week as voted
by the North American Soccer Reporters for Week 23 of the 2010 season.

Fabio Capello has confirmed that he'll step down as England manager after the end of Euro
2012.
Usually when a manager announces to his squad that he'll no longer be a manager after a specific
date, it's an accident waiting to happen. Take for example Raymond Domenech and his French team in
the 2010 World Cup.
Sunderland's record signing Asamoah Gyan has admitted he faces a stern task to justify his
£13million transfer fee. The Ghanaian forward completed a move to the North East on deadline day,
but the transfer raised eyebrows with its vast price tag, and Gyan is well aware that expectations
from him will be high.

It had all the makings of a game we would have previously let slip a physical side unafraid to
put in a series of wild challenges, a hatful of missed sitters, and a sloppy defensive moment
gifting them a goal.

Yes, you're right. Cesena, one the of the newcomers of this season's Serie A is
on top of the league alongside defending champions Inter.
Actually, that is no surprise if you think about Serie A. The key to impress,
the key to win, the key to stay on top, as I told you here before on AFR, is balance, stability,
and the ability to keep your shape no matter the time, the game, or the moment in the season.

Wesley Sneijder's agent has revealed talks over a new deal at Internazionale
have broken down.
The midfielder revealed earlier this month that he was hopeful of signing a contract extension,
with Inter believed to be keen on an agreement that would keep him at the club until 2015.
Manchester United coach, Sir Alex Ferguson, missed out on his teams Carling Cup win over
Scunthrope. Admitting that Sir Alex Ferguson used this Carling Cup match to view their upcoming
Champions League opponents (Valencia), rumors started to rise that he was also keen on spectating
David De Gea.
Roller derby, from the perspective of a referee who works other sports, has a really curious method
of becoming a new official. First, there are try-outs; and serious ones, at that. Potential
referees try out with the women who want to play (there were sixty people this year). Tryouts are
four hours long and include both skills and endurance testing.
Well, at the risk of hyperbole, I'm a wee bit displeased with that one.
It did clarify two things for us, I think. First, West Brom are here to stay. After an
embarrassing first game loss to Chelsea, they've played very, very well, giving Liverpool a close
game at Anfield and now beating us at the Emirates.

Aly Moreno, left, and Fred, right, both scored first half goals for the Union Saturday against
Chivas USA; here the pair celebrate after the former Galaxy striker's conversion. (AP Photo).
At least Chivas USA and Galaxy fans have one thing in common heading into next Sunday's
SuperClasico: they both support teams who appear to be deteriorating rather than improving as the
season wears on.

This picture is not chosen for the Seattle celebration - there are better pictures of their goal
celebration in the AP file, much better actually.
Being unbeaten at home for one of the smaller Premiership sides is something that should always
be celebrated but at Birmingham City, things are never that simple. They have now equaled the clubs
longest unbeaten home record of 18 games, it hides another story entirely. Now, 6 games in, the
club have 7 points and sit mid-table but once again, the crowd was just over 2/3rds of the
capacity.

A lot has been said about the Arsenal man this season, and almost all of it has been
positive. But does Jack have what it takes to be the play maker that England have been looking
for?
Wilshere has played in all of Arsenal's six premiership and has made two man of the match
appearances in Europe, against Braga and in the Carling Cup verses Tottenham.
Undoubtedly, Song has had a difficult time in the last few games. And I'm one among the many who
have not been very happy with the change in his approach. It seems the player who impressed most of
us as a Defensive Midfielder is trying to add more to his game. We can't really fault that as a
long as it doesn't affect the balance of the team.
Despite a much improved first half showing at the Sydney Football Stadium last night Sydney FC
remained on the bottom of the table with a paltry four points.
Scott Jamieson was dropped for last nights 1-1 draw with the Fury; he's stuggled all season in
midfield, but it was the front trio of Alex Brosque, Bruno Cazarine and Mark Bridge that gave
Sydney the edge in the first half.
