Starting for the first time since his surprise emergence from retirement, Paul Scholes made it
18 Premier League seasons (out of 18) in which he's scored after netting the opener against
Bolton, with the goal coming just before the break.
Not the scoreline we hoped for, but certainly one we feared. Not a great deal to discuss really,
we were soundly beaten by a side who are clearly superior in every single position.
Mario Balotelli opened the scoring by leaping on the opportunity to pull a bicycle kick out of
his toolbox, scoring from six yards.
Liverpool endured a frustrating opening day setback as Sunderland show resilience and courage with
a touch of class from their new signing.
Liverpool showed off all their new major signings in front of their home crowd. For the first half
Liverpool looked dangerous and inventive with Suarez forcing Richardson into a bad back pass which
the striker pounced on and rounded the keeper; only to be brought down by Richardson.
Liverpool's first match of the 2011/12 League got off to a decent start.
With the debuts of Charlie Adam, Jordan Hendersen, Stewart Downing and José Enrique all starting
together for the first time in a Premier game, there was bound to be some rustiness and lethargy
amongst Kenny Daglish's team.
