Men are pigs. Bullish, impatient, mindless, and above all selfish. It is why I only love women.
And apparently, so do the Turks. In an effort to punish clubs for crowd trouble while acknowledging
that such trouble comes from a small percentage of individuals, the Turkish Football Federation
proposed barring all males over the age of 12 from the stands as punishment.
The best photo from a blurry batch of cell-phone pictures. I'm glad to say that I was lucky enough
to be able to go to Empire Field's last Vancouver Whitecaps game against the Seattle Sounders. When
I go see matches live, I'm usually too engrossed in the action and swept up by the atmosphere to be
able to properly focus on what I'm going to write later in the match report.
Again, one more time, Japan is the new promising team in the world. It is impressive how their
football developed in the previous 20 years in very consistent way. Japan defeated North Korea in
the WCQ 1-0 today. It seems that Japan played vs. North Korea that lost to Brazil 1-2 not the one
that lost to Portugal by 7 goals.

Also with an intriguing story about an agent pitching the player in a men's room. For me though
this is the quote that should be able to sway more players to come to MLS;
"I pushed all the benefits of playing here: excellent training facilities, a safe atmosphere
for players and their families, paychecks that don't bounce, etc.
The Portland Timbers don't have a first team match until September 10 in Philadelphia, but fans had
a chance to see Timbers players in action on September 1 as the Reserve team played a home match
versus Los Angeles. The soccer action was great as the sides played to a 3-all draw, but for long
time Timbers fans, the atmosphere reminded many of the Timbers era in the United Soccer Leagues.
Last night on Twitter we asked a question that was a bit of a stumper: How many players could make
their debut for the MNT outside of North America?
Turns out the answer is five: Timmy Chandler, Michael Orozco Fiscal, Bill Hamid, Jeff Larentowicz,
and Brek Shea. The one that kept tripping people up was Kyle Beckerman.
We mentioned in an earlier post that Steve Cherundolo has played the most games for the United
States on European soil of any player on the roster. ussoccer.com spoke to Steve about his
experiences playing on the continent...
Cherundolo has come up big for the U.S. in Europeussoccer.
For years we heard Cristiano Ronaldo claimed that only God knew where he future lay when asked
about rumours linking him with Real Madrid.
Now the tables have turned, with Ronaldo playing for the Spanish club, and claiming that one day
he may return to United.
"I don't close the door, so maybe in the future I hope so, because I know the league, I know
the players, I know the atmosphere," said Ronaldo.

No, you're not looking at scenes from San Siro. Instead Indonesian fans tried to 'recreate' the

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has told boss Kenny Dalglish that he does not want a rest - despite
only having a week off during pre-season.
Having starred in Uruguay's run to the semi-finals of the 2010 World Cup, Suarez was a regular for
both Liverpool and former club Ajax last season. He went on to fire his country to the Copa America
title in July - being named Player of the Tournament in the process - to complete a hectic 12
months.
England only just managed to scrape a narrow victory against Wales a few days ago in the Euro
Championship Qualifiers, yet player for player England outclassed the Welsh players (well, with the
exception of Bale and Ramsay perhaps), so the burning question on everyone's lips seems to be why
are England so inconsistent?
Geoff Gibson of Stumptown Footy, SB Nation's Portland Timbers blog,
and I chatted ahead of tonight's Philadelphia Union-Timbers match at PPL Park. Read my responses to
Gibson's questions by clicking on the linked text here (takes you to Stumptown Footy).
Scott: From the Timbers side of the ball, how has Jorge Perlaza done?
Made my first trip to see a match at the Emirates today to watch Arsenal play Swansea. Luckily I
saw Arsenal win 1-0. But it was far from an impressive performance by the Gunners.
Yes they won via an Arshavin goal, but Swansea really should have equalized late in aded time
when Danny Graham shot over from the edge of the six yard box.

Spurs are off and running. The rest have two games start but at least we are in the race. The
season starts here.
Just as this new season had worked up a head of steam with the window closing, plenty of
interest in how new arrivals and reinforced squads would fare, cracking football and lots of goals,
the international break brought everything to a grinding halt.
Two Canberrans Josip Simunic (Dinamo Zagreb) and Steven Lustica (Hadjuk Split) took to the European
football stage on the weekend. First v Second - massive crowd, massive atmosphere.
Interesting Lustica was rejected by Gold Coast United at the end of last season. He's now played
against Barcelona, started 3 league games for Hadjuk, including this top of the table clash.
There are times when covering soccer is not all that fun. Ridiculously tight deadlines, dealing
with uncooperative people, dull matches... been there, done that.
But there are also times when soccer is superb. Now is one of those times.
I'm writing this post from a hotel in Morelia, Mexico, where I've traveled to for the Galaxy's
Champions League match against Morelia.

Last week, Juventus unveiled its new stadium, called Juventus Stadium until naming rights are
sold. The 41,000 seat stadium is smaller than the Old Lady's previous home, the Stadio delle Alpi,
but that is a good development in that there is no longer a running track between the fans and the
pitch.

Story today out of Singapore suggests DPMM will be applying for a return to the SLeague next year.
The Brunei team of course played in the SLeague back in 2009 and did most unSLeague like things
like producing match day programmes and having an atmosphere at home and away games.
They also won the League Cup and were on course to win the SLeague before FIFA kicked them out
because they were smaller than Indonesia.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp was pleased with the 0-0 draw against PAOK Salonika last night and
he praised his young side for their belief.
Tottenham managed a draw thanks largely to a retaken penalty by the home side which was missed
at the second attempt, although Harry claims that his side should have had a spot kick of their
own.
Kenny Dalglish has paid tribute to his backroom staff after several members of the Liverpool squad
gave his training methods a huge thumbs-up.
The Reds boss admits he is delighted that his players are enjoying the Melwood sessions and reckons
it is all down to the tireless work of an unsung duo.

Abby tallies in the 10th minute from the penalty spotThe U.S. WNT played its first match since the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup last night at the
fantastic LIVESTRONG Sporting Park (the best medium-sized stadium in the country? Could be....) and
while the Americans showed some flashes of dynamic soccer, there was also some rust to be shaken
off, and probably the best part of the night was the crowd.

Fans in Portland should head to Kells on Tuesday night to hang out with Megan Rpainoe (she'll be
answering questions form fans in a Q & A). The atmosphere in the northwest has been amazing and we
can't wait to see all the fans out there at Kells tomorrow night. Come around 7 p.m.!
And you (and a "teammmate") should also be sure to bring your own handshake for the Handshake
Contest.
Going to Nike after school to see the WNT, meet some players and get some autographs? Life is
good.
The U.S. WNT held its training on the campus of the Nike World Headquarters today in front of a
huge crowd of Nike employees, friends and famlies and probably a lot of friends of families.
It was ladies and children under-12 night in the Fenerbahce vs. Maispor game due to a ban on men

events.

Cameroonian international striker Samuel Eto'o has compared his new club's supporters to those of
Liverpool.
The former Barcelona and Inter Milan forward became the highest-paid footballer when completing a
move to Russia this summer, with Anzhi Makhachkala splashing out on the 30-year-old.
Concerns were raised over the reception the player would receive from supporters after the move was
confirmed, but Eto'o admitted that both he and his teammates were grateful to their 2,000 traveling
fans in the 1-0 defeat at Kuban.

Take a lesson from Turkey, and ban blokes from Leeds v United
On Wednesday the Turkish Football Federation decided that only women and children would be
allowed in to watch Fenerbahce against Manisaspor after repeated crowd trouble from the home side.
More than 41,000 turned up to the Istanbul stadium, and according to reports it was sweetness,
light and sportsmanship all round: "It was such a fun and pleasant atmosphere," said Manisaspor's
Omer Aysan.

Very rarely do I ever cover a complete interview written in the press or featured in a published
interview. I'd rather take a snippet from it and discuss the key point I want to discuss and post a
link to the rest of it.
However, Carlo Ancelotti is featured this morning in an interview with Matt Lawton in the Daily
Mail and it's an intriguing and interesting interview.
Why I fear City's trip to Munich could be as flat as Oktoberfest leftovers
Manchester City resume their Champions League campaign against Bayern Munich and will travel to
the capital of Bavaria right in the middle of Oktoberfest. That just happens to be the world's
biggest beer festival!
