Arsenal striker Carlos Vela did not get a warm welcome by his former supporters as the Mexican
national side suffered a 2:1 defeat in a friendly against Ecuador last night at Estadio Omnilife in
Guadalajara.
After his poor performance and his statements about Chivas, that the clubs means nothing for his
career, Mexican striker Carlos Vela was the boo man for the fans at the stadium Omnilife.
Stockport County left back Michael Rose said that the only reason he is still playing for county is
because Jim Gannon left. In an interview Rose said : "I was on the verge of signing for
Hartlepool, I went up there and agreed terms. He then added " I never wanted to leave Stockport, it
was just going to be a new challenge for me, if Jim Gannon was staying here really i didn't want to
be here, but obviously with him leaving I managed to speak to Jim Melrose and he told me the way
the club was heading and told me he wanted me to stay " .
TOP 10 FOOTBALL FANS IN EUROPE (UEFA SURVEY)
It has been said that the 12th man is like an endangered species in modern football. This
weekend I waxed un-poetically about the legacy of Liverpool fans and the famous atmosphere they
create at Anfield and when they travel on the road.
It's been nice, football sans vuvuzelae, hasn't it? For most of us, anyway, and this surely goes
double if you're the sound engineer for a broadcasting company which pumps out football.
(Nightmares of ambient noise and so forth.)
UEFA feels similarly and has done away with the devil seed for UEFA-sanctioned competition.
There are only two days before France's decisive match against Belarus. From what I've seen,
Laurent Blanc is keeping a positive atmosphere at Les Bleus' headquarters. To reinforce the
optimism, Le President invited Zinedine Zidane to Clairefontaine to spend the day with the team.
This was a huge confidence boost for the team as a whole.
UEFA announced that vuvuzelas will not be permitted in European stadia hosting UEFA competitions.
'The magic of football consists of the two-way exchange of emotions between the pitch and the
stands, where the public can transmit a full range of feelings to the players,' explained the
European confederation's web site.
So after a World Cup of buzzing in our ears, Uefa has decided to ban the vuvuzela from all their
games in the Champions League and Europa League.
The move was made after a mixed reception from fans and players. A statement from Uefa said, "The
World Cup was characterised by the vuvuzela's widespread and permanent use in the stands.
Although the Vuvuzelas may have gotten off on a break in South Africa since it was part of their
tradition, it seems that no one else is looking to give them a break as UEFA became another
organization to ban the instrument.
After having picked up major controversy in the World Cup, the vuvuzela instrument has been
banned from a number of organizations including the English Premier League, World Basketball
Organization, FIBA and many others.

Atmosphere? Sydney FC have had plenty over the year
But with costs spiralling as crowds plummet Sydney are aiming at copying the Gold Coast Franchise
as soon as possible.
Away fans always add a little colour behind the goals at the Sydney Football Stadium but not
anymore.
Sydney has moved them, but where to?
Great to see the fans rolling in at Perth Glory; makes for a great atmosphere. But how long will it
last?
Having listened to the Glory fans over the years, singing their stupid "You FAT Bastard" chant and
swearing through many songs it's finally dawned on the club and the fans that this might
actually:
Dissuade Sponsors
Dissuade TV Viewers
and more importantly dissuade fans and families.
AEK face Panserraikos tomorrow in Rizoupoli. The game is sold out (not surprisingly considering
season tickets are almost as many as the stadium's capacity) which should make for a great
atmosphere in a football friendly stadium... assuming we get the result we desperately need! Both
Olympiakos (2-0 against Kerkyra in a closed doors Karaiskaki) and PAO (1-0 away to Aris) won this
weekend meaning we have a tough hurdle to overcome if we want to stay near the top (if we lose that
is).
Five years ago, a group of hardcore Palace fans, who'd become frustrated at the lack of soul at
Selhurst Park and in football in general, formed one of the UK's first ultra groups. They drew on
their experiences on the old Holmesdale terrace, combined with the ultra movement, and have now
completely transformed the atmosphere at matches.

Tonight at the De Grolsch Veste Stadium in Enschede, the current Champions League holders; Inter
Milan, were held to a 2x2 draw by FC Twente. The current Dutch champions gave as good as they got
in the pouring, buoyed by the incredible atmosphere provided by their fans.
Ryan Giggs is looking forward to this weekend's game against Liverpool.
Following some disappointing results in the league and in Europe, Giggs is expecting the
atmosphere of Sunday to get the lads going.
"The crowd will light up," said Giggs. "It's usually a quick game and it's usually
a ferocious game, so hopefully it's the kind of game that sets us back on the winning
trail.
The new Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh is really keen to face Tottenham in his first ever local
derby. He understands that Wenger likes to play the Young Guns in these games but he is still
hoping to be picked so that he can savour the atmosphere properly. He said: "I have spoken to the
French players [.
Liverpool make their Carling Cup bow tomorrow night at Anfield.
Compared to Sunday, I'd say there's slightly different expectations in the build-up to
tomorrow's match.
Not for the result, mind you I think Liverpool need a win here, not just for progression in the
competition, but for furthering (or creating) a feeling that things are moving in the right
direction.
While some clubs have to deal with players who are now believing to be God, Chelsea keep a light
and healthy energy in London. Funny video, great atmosphere at Chelsea's ground.

Last week in Dose we linked to a piece by the very excellent The Ball Is Round. In said

We all know that former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier has officially become the new manager of
Aston Villa, but what nobody knows is that Houllier has yet to officially sign the dotted line to
the contract of the three year deal he agreed to weeks back.
Houllier, who was announced as the replacement two weeks ago, has been busy in the last month
fulfilling obligations for his previously agreed contract with the FFF.
Manchester United ran out convincing 5-2 winners against lower league Scunthorpe on Wednesday,
and while Sir Alex Ferguson didn't attend the match he'll have a lot to be pleased about. Defender
Chris Smalling was majestic at the back, and he was full of praise for debutant Bebe, the
Portuguese unknown who signed for the Red Devils over the summer.
Since last season Chelsea have been noted for the quality of their attacking play and things
haven't change yet this season as until 5 matches, the Blues already managed to score 21 league
goals.
However, for Peter Chech, despite of their impressive achievement the importance of his team's
attacking department isn't more crucial than their defensive work as the keeper believes that
getting a clean sheet could be more important than scoring four or five goals.
Just a quick post as I don't get home until tomorrow. A more detailed report and some pictures
will be uploaded tomorrow evening.
Chris Holroyd's debut goal was enough to give Stevenage their first away win of the season. Boro
were solid at the back, dangerous going forward and totally deserved their victory.
There are some players who are just meant to stay with a certain club all through out their
career. The thought of them leaving, is well, just unthinkable. We have seen it in the past with
Shevchenko, Henry and most recently Kaka where these players after leaving failed to make an impact
in their new clubs.
Over and over in the press I keep hearing about what a difficult place Qwest Field is to play.
Being a season ticket holder, my impression is quite different. Sure, the atmosphere is fantastic
and I love going to matches, but I never consider Qwest the fortress that some people like to make
it out to be.
Partizan Belgrade 1-3 Arsenal
That was a very good win. Traveling to Serbia is not easy, traveling to Serbia, facing a
capacity crowd creating a fearsome atmosphere, fielding a team without your core players and
preparing for the game via the light of mobile phones (good Cashley weren't about, eh?
