Thomas Ujfalusi injured Leo Messi this weekend, when the Atletico Madrid defender's clumsy
attempt to tackle the Barcelona attacker got a lot more ankle than it did ball. It wasn't pretty,
and Messi will be out for two weeks or more.
Ujfalusi was sent off for the tackle, but Barcelona players have complained about the harshness
of the tackle, with Pique going as far as saying that Messi was "hunted" by Atletico.

Fernando Torres is preparing to drop a bombshell on new Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson in January by
handing in a written transfer request, it has been suggested.
Torres is reportedly disgruntled at the Reds' manager's failure to bring in any more big-name
signings since Joe Cole's arrival on a free transfer.
Johann Cruyff in his weekly posting in "El Periodico" opines that Barça must score early and
often before matches become a slog of constant fouling from the opposition. He predicts a tough
season for the Barça boys if they get in the habit of playing in low-scoring matches. Had Barça
finished more of their chances in the Atletico Madrid match, Messi would have been on the bench as
time dwindled down.
Just a few rumors, and some interesting situations that could arise in January.
Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho will temper his disappointment at not signing Chelsea striker
Didier Drogba by making a January move for Manchester City forward Emmanuel Adebayor. (Daily

UEFA Champions League
Real Madrid's offensive woes will not be aided when they travel to the Stade de l'Abbé
Deschamps on Tuesday and face an Auxerre squad who gave up the fewest goals in Ligue 1 last season
with a meager 29. While Auxerre's form has not carried over to this current season, where they
have not won in Ligue 1 while conceding ten in seven matches, expect the Burgundy outfit to pack it
in the midfield and play with ten behind the ball throughout the vast majority of the match.
Some upsetting news at Camp Nou have arrived as their star defender Carlos Puyol well be missing
the next 3 weeks after sustaining a muscle injury during warm-up's in Barcelona's clash with Racing
Santander. Although the club did still go on to win the match 3-0 against Racing, it still has to
suck to see the bench for 3 weeks when the season just got under-way.
Took this from another blog, still not in the mood to write:
Gillett: "We have invested more money than our competitors, in keeping with the history of the
club"
Hicks: "Our debt is very managable.... and we never use player sales for debt service. The
summer window will be big."
Tom Hicks (27 May 2010): "We have no intention of selling any of our top players and we have a
substantial transfer budget in place.
There's no denying it. The last few months have been glorious for
Atletico Madrid
fans. First they had that historic triumph against Fulham in the
UEFA Europa
League final. They then topped it off in pre-season by comfortably seeing off Champions
League winners Inter Milan in the
European Supercup.
I was watching highlights of my son team, Atletico Madrid beating Gigon 4-0 and I thought this goal
must be posted into my blog very elegant and powerful goal, kinda of my favorites styles

Paul Konchesky, who became Roy Hodgson's last-minute recruit towards the end of last week's
transfer window, admits that the move from Fulham to Merseyside could bring forth a greater
challenge.
However, as far as the 29-year old left back is concerned, he is relishing the prospect of
playing football at a level that is best suited for his prime.

Highly-rated PSV midfielder Ibrahim Afellay has revealed that he turned down a
summer move to Everton as he 'didn't like the feel of the club'.
The 24-year-old has long been linked with a move away from the Philips Stadion and was again the
subject of intense speculation over the close season, with many reports suggesting that he was
Premier League-bound but the 24-year-old is making no secret of the fact that he is holding out for
a dream move to Spain;
"There were several clubs that tried to sign me this summer.

Atletico Madrid plan to scupper Liverpool and Tottenham's attempts to land Arda Turan by making an
increased bid for the Galatasaray playmaker in January.
Turan, who has previously claimed it would be a ‘dream' to wear the red of Liverpool, is highly
rated on Merseyside.
talkSPORT also understands Tottenham were interested in the Turkey international but Harry
Redknapp's signing of Rafael Van der Vaart suggests Turan is no longer on his radar.

I went 7/10 in Gameweek 1's Quiniela and would have done better if Madrid hadn't fallen flat in
Mallorca. This week has a few interesting matchups as the domestic season resumes.
It has been a slow start to the Spanish season with the Interlull taking place
immediately after the first round of games.

U.S. national team goalkeeper Tim Howard will go up against his former club on Saturday when
Everton takes on Manchester United in one of the weekend's featured matches.
Everton-Manchester United is one of a handful of matches American fans can watch with Americans
playing abroad.
Stuart Holden has enjoyed a good start to the season at Bolton, establishing himself as a

Arsenal.

Barcelona 0 - 2 Hercules(0-1) 26' Valdez, (0-2) 58' Valdez
No one can say they saw that coming. Unless your name is
Esteban Vigo of course.
When the
Hercules manager stated midweek that his team would only be happy with a
win in the Camp Nou, there was a deathly silence followed by howls of derision.
The weekend before UEFA Champions League can sometimes produce domestic league upsets in Europe,
but few could have expected the number of shocking results delivered by some of Europe's top
teams.
Barcelona suffered a shocking 2-0 home loss to newly-promoted Hercules, Manchester United gave
up two stoppage-time goals in a 3-3 draw against Everton, AC Milan felll to newly-promoted Cesena,
2-0, and AS Roma suffered an embarrassing 5-1 defeat against Cagilari.

An Anfield insider tells me that Liverpool's dressing-room leaders Steven Gerrard and Jamie
Carragher, in case you didn't know are fast losing faith in Fernando Torres.
Sky Sports fuckwit pundit Jamie Redknapp, who claims to be a big fan of Torres, described
Nando's admittedly lethargic display at Birmingham City on Sunday as 'terrible' and 'diabolical',
and it seems there's a growing feeling that the Spaniard has fallen out of love with Liverpool, if
not the fans who adore him.

The unlikeliest of results kicked off a goal-filled La Liga this weekend with newly promoted

acquisition Nelson Valdez put the team from Alicante ahead after some questionable defending.
Kenny Dalglish has sprung to the defence of Liverpool's under-fire striker Fernando Torres,
following his disappointing performance at Birmingham City.
Liverpool drew a blank at St Andrews on Sunday, drawing 0-0 with Birmingham in an uninspiring
display by the Reds.
Spanish striker Fernando Torres has come in for particular criticism with former Liverpool
midfielder Jamie Redknapp branding his display "diabolical" and Ray Clemence calling 'El Nino' "a
shadow of his former self.
Former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp launched a scathing attack on Fernando
Torres after another inept performance on Sunday against Birmingham City.
"Terrible," "diabolical," "sloppy" and "lethargic" were some of the words used by the Sky pundit,
but a critique that must have had many football fans nodding in agreement with was that the
Spaniard looked "fed up.

United will be looking to erase the bad taste of last week's 3-3 tie vs. Everton, while
Liverpool will look to improve on last week's disappointing showing against Birmingham.
Pride cometh before a fall, this sums up what happened to me in the week 2 Quiniela. I
was off of a 70% week and raring for more success only to fall flatter than Barcelona against
Hercules. A disappointing 4/10 brings my season record down to a measly 11/20 so there isn't
anywhere else to go but up.
