La Liga Report 21 November @ 06:04 AM EST

Deportivo La Coruna-Atletico Madrid

Deportivo has remained strong early on in the year and the squad is currently in fifth place trailing four clubs that are all red hot. They should remain a top five club by the end of the week as they play the very inconsistent (but bad in La Liga so far) Atletico Madrid.

Costinha plays for Atalanta. Oh you didn’t know? Neither did anybody.

The Offside: Italy 19 November @ 10:32 AM EST

As the title reads, former Portuguese international and ex-Mourinho pupil Costinha plays for Atalanta and is probably the biggest waste of money in all of Italian football today. Back in the summer of 2007, Costinha's contract expired at Atletico Madrid. Atalanta thought they were making a real steal signing him, as be brought a wealth of international experience to their midfield.

The World Cup winners in 1930 and 1950 became the last team to qualify for South Africa 2010 thanks to a draw with Costa Rica at the Centenario in Montevideo. Is Atletico Madrid star Sergio Aguero heading to Chelsea?

La Liga Report 18 November @ 12:39 PM EST

British newspaper reports say that Chelsea are closing in on a deal for Sergio Aguero from Atletico Madrid which could be worth £50million.

The deal would make the Argentina striker the highest-paid player in the Barclays Premier League at more than £170,000-a-week.

Over the summer Chelsea had a £31m bid for Aguero turned down last summer but are now prepared to increase their offer after seeing Aguero score two stunning goals against Chelsea in the Champions League earlier this month.

January Transfers Approach...

The Soccer Weblog 18 November @ 07:15 AM EST
With the international break over and the Leagues ready to embark upon their run in to the January transfer window, the rumours continue to hot up. Atletico Madrid's 21 year old Sergio Aguero could be heading to Chelsea now that their transfer ban has been overturned, a move that will see the Spanish side receive, what is currently believed to be, around £40 million, while AC Milan's needlessly violent bulldog Gennaro Gattuso has apparently made mention of a move to England, specifically Manchester City. • For the love of Kun, the Rojiblancos have been slapped with a fine of 150 euros (about the cost of a decent La Liga ticket these days). Anyway, RFEF meted out that small punishment after Atletico's fans were said to have thrown objects at Pellegrini from the stands during the Madrid derby on November 7.

World Cup Qualifying: Costa Rica, Saprissa Ready For Uruguay

Soccer By Ives 13 November @ 10:17 AM EST

By NESTOR F. SEBASTIAN

It's been all business in the Uruguayan and Costa Rican camps this week, ahead of their first-leg playoff match at San Jose's Saprissa stadium, with no bulletin-board material or off-key quotes to rile each other up.

Instead, it's generally been a pleasant environment for players, media corps and managers, both of whom have praised each other's squad's games and achievements but have also divulged very little information on their respective teams' workouts.

Age is just a number & understanding club identity through Ginola

Gunners Today 12 November @ 03:25 PM EST

I'll clarify one thing. Missing the cut and thrust of league football is a big negative but the good thing about International week is that it provides for ample reflection. Maybe too much of it sometimes. Perhaps that comes with age.

Watching the La Liga review I learnt a bit more about age.

What are we missing?

Man United Devils 12 November @ 09:23 AM EST
It doesn't take a genius to work out that Man Utd are not the team they were last year with the only loss to the team being Cristiano Ronaldo. Wayne Rooney has been given much more of free role and is playing better than he ever has but he can't do it alone. Just like Ronaldo needed Rooney in the team Rooney, needs a Ronaldo and Antonio Valencia just isn't it. Click to continue reading...

Ashley Cole injured.

I was watching Sky this morning and they announced the England squad and noticed that Ash wasn't included.
