Oscar Washington Tabárez not only has to deal with the pressure that the Uruguayan media is putting on him, but he will have to play two vital games against direct rivals that are fighting for one of those direct spots to South Africa 2010.   Uruguay is currently in sixth place and depending on how they [. The intent of Jorge Luis Pinto´s 22-man roster leaves no doubt as to his intent.   A six-point sweep would put them in second place in the standings since Argentina will face Paraguay next weekend.   The six points would leave them only nine points away from the magic number of 25 that is going to be [. CL/UEFA Cup Draw: Luca Toni’s Reunion and Trips to Romania

1
The qualification rounds of this year's European competitions concluded yesterday. The good news is, that no Bundesliga team has been knocked out yet. The bad news is, that Schalke made the overcrowded UEFA Cup even more overcrowded, by losing to Atletico Madrid (1-0 / 0-4). I give them credit that they were missing five starting [. Former stomping grounds for Torres & Luis Garcia

1
We've been landed with a tough Champions League group, no question about it. Assuming we find our form in a few weeks, we should be able to turn over the likes of PSV Eindhoven, Marseille and Atletico Madrid. Of the 3, Atletico Madrid pose the most obvious and interesting threat.

I'm sure Luis Garcia will be well received by the Anfield faithful. Click to continue reading...

By now you probably know about UEFA's group stage draw for their signature club event, the Champions League (cue that stupid music they adopted as the Champions League anthem). Finding a Cure for Death

0

The story of my support for the Spanish national team begins and ends, as many stories do, with short gentlemen from Southern Europe sporting bad haircuts. Click to continue reading...

The Draw

0

The UEFA Champion's League Trophy.
The UEFA Champion's League group stage draw took place today at 12:00 EST. Lyon are in Group H, and drew: FC Bayern Munich, FC Steaua Bucuresti and AFC Fiorentina. This looks like one of the most balanced of the groups. There is no power imbalance in this group- like Barcelona last year- and Bayern, Steaua and Fiorentina are certainly stronger than Rangers, Stuttgart and an injury-riddled Lyon last year.
