An owl kicked to death in a match in Colombia between Barranquilla club Atletico Junior and Deportivo Pereira has lead to a storm of protests and internet controversy.
The owl was the unofficial mascot of Atletico Junior and had already been hit by the ball before it was unceremoniously booted off the pitch by Deportivo Pereira defender Luis Moreno, who has subsequently been suspended for two games and fined.

Copa Libertadores finally wraps up its group-stage matches this week as 12 teams battle for the seven remaining spots available in the Round of 16, with defending champions Internacional of Brazil looking for a win at home against a tough Ecuadorean side, Emelec, while Mexico's America just needs a draw in Uruguay against Nacional.

There are two things at least which we learned from El Clasico-plosion 2011.

i. Less is more.
ii. No one gets kicked like Lionel Messi. (Learned long ago, but work with me.)

Except perhaps this guy in the video above, a (presumably) Colombian pitch invader during last night's Copa Libertadores matchup between Mexico's Jaguares Chiapas and the local Atletico Junior.
