Spreading Swine Flu Forces Soccer Postponements in Mexico

Azteca Stadium in Mexico City sat eerily empty Sunday during the game between Club America and Tecos because of the swine flu outbreak.

CONCACAF today canceled the remainder of the Under-17 championships in Tijuana and postponed the second leg of the Champions League final because of escalating fears of a swine flu pandemic.

Atlante: 90 minutes closer to Dubai

Perhaps I should have seen Atlante's result coming last night. Cruz Azul were without two of their primary midfielders in Gerardo Torrado and Cristián Riveros, which would have reduced the team's ability to dominate the midfield. The Houston Dynamo are going to into Mexico with after a 1-1 tie in the first leg of their CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal. The Dynamo play Atlante FC Tuesday at 8PM (Fox Soccer Channel). Houston is the only remaining MLS team in the competition. Don't miss this one.

David Beckham has been doing good in Italy and every day there is a new story about how he is never coming back to play for the Galaxy.

Revolution win SuperLiga group B

Both of the final games of group B finished with 1-1 draws which was good enough to send the New England Revolution through to the semi-finals with the top spot from group B.  Defending champions Pachuca advance with 4 points and second place in the group.

Bad day for MLS at SuperLiga

Group A played the 2nd round of games yesterday and neither of our MLS teams fared very well. Chivas scored the only goal of the game to beat Houston 1-0. This put Chivas into the semifinals. Atlante secured a 3-2 victory over DC United which ensures that DC United has no chance at the semi-finals.

The big addition to today's 18-man roster is the inclusion of Santino Quaranta to the substitute's bench. Tino hasn't played since the team's 4-1 win over the Galaxy on June 29, when he left the game after just 27 minutes with a hamstring strain.

Lance Parker May Play For Chivas USA Tonight

This one deserves a post of it's own - there is a strong possibility that Lance Parker (Missouri State 2008) may play for Chivas USA this evening in the Superliga game against Pachuca CF. Game time is 7:00 pm on the coast, or 9:00 pm locally.

Anyone aware of a Mexican restaurant in the area that 1) might be open that late and 2) has the Telefutura channel (available on Dish) that is broadcasting the game?

Lance Parker May Play For Chivas USA Tonight

2008-09 CONCACAF Champions League Group Stage Schedule

Yesterday saw the draw for the first ever Concacaf Champions League group stage. The two seeded MLS sides, DC United and Houston Dynamo, were drawn into groups A & B respectively.

Houston Dynamo and DC United are set for another CONCACAF Champions Cup campaign. Both teams begin the tournament on Wednesday March 12th on the road. DC United will be in Jamaica playing Harbour View FC while Houston may have a tougher opponent in Guatemala when they play CSD Municipal. This is how the whole brackets look.

Two MLS teams recently found out who they will be facing in next year's CONCACAF Champions Cup. Two time defending MLS Cup winners Houston Dynamo will meet Municipal of Guatemala. The Supporters' Shield winners DC United will face Harbour View (Jamaica). Here is the whole list of match ups.
