Atlanta United sign defender Greg Garza to multi-year deal

26-year-old Greg Garza spent the 2017 Major League Soccer season on-loan with Atlanta United, making a huge impact with the club.

On Wednesday, Garza signed a permanent multi-year contract with the club, joining from Liga MX outfit Club Tijuana, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution is reporting these figures that 6,000 founding members of the Atlanta club help make up this 17,500 number.

It's official: Atlanta has been awarded an expansion team in Major League Soccer.

Atlanta will begin play in 2017 as the 22nd franchise team in MLS. The team, not yet named, will be owned by Arthur Blank, who also owns the NFL's Atlanta Falcons.

Blank agreed to pay $70 million as an expansion fee, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The Atlanta Silverbacks' days as an NASL club are over, but the team's days as a professional soccer franchise appear set to continue.

Speaking to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Silverbacks name ownerBoris Jerkunica says that he and his group of partners are exploring the option of starting a team in either the USL or NPSL following the NASL club's demise.
