Canadian Corner: Putting the Gold Cup success in perspective

Discerning Canadian soccer fans can be forgiven for being a tad bit ambivalent about the Canadian national team's success during the preliminary round of the Gold Cup.
Â
We've seen the movie before after all. A plucky Canuck team surprises the critics (and terrifies the bookies) by playing attractive, winning football at the CONCACAF championships.

Soccer By Ives 10 July @ 05:56 PM EST

The Gold Cup resumes tonight as the final round of group stage play commences from Miami, Fl. In the first game of the night, Costa Rica will look to climb from its third place position as they take on a Canadian team that currently sits in first place and has yet to allow a goal.

In the second match of the night, the last-place Jamaicans will look to keep their slim Gold Cup dreams alive as they play an El Salvador side that currently stands in second with six points.

The Gold Cup begins

The Footie Fool 03 July @ 01:00 PM EST

In just a few hours, Canada will hit the turf against Jamaica to kick off the 2009 Gold Cup. While many are not giving the Canucks a spit of a chance of making it very far, I think we are being woefully underestimated.

Despite the notable absences, we have a few young players who, if they come of age, will spark a decent run for us.

Atiba Hutchinson seems content in Denmark - for now

The Footie Fool 16 January @ 01:46 AM EST
A couple of Atiba Hutchinson references have popped up in the past couple of days, albeit they are the type of Google Translate type articles that have been known to whip Canadian players into a tizzy. And, this being the European silly season, you can't read too much into speculation and idle name tossing. Click to continue reading...

CONCACAF Abroad: Weekend Rewind

Soccer By Ives 16 September @ 12:38 PM EST

It wasn't a great international window for the Jamaican national team, what with two World Cup qualifying losses and the firing of head coach Rene Simoes, but at least one Jamaican player rebounded well from the disappointment.

Marlon King delivered two goals in Hull's 2-1 win vs.
