Visiting the White House with his Los Angeles Galaxy teammates was just the beginning of David Beckham's whirlwind week.

Assuming his role as one of London's ambassadors for this summer's Olympic games, Beckham will be part of the contingent bringing the Olympic torch from Athens to London on Friday, one of the traditional ceremonies in the build-up to an Olympics.

Its been months since Ive posted, many, many months. To be honest, because of having to work, and for other reasons, I havent been able to watch too many games lately. And Ive been far too upset with the current state of the team to follow it too much.

Its not that Ive given up on AEK, or ever will.

Not to be outdone by the Greek fans who set the Athens derby on fire over the weekend, Spartak Moscow and CSKA Moscow supporters fought each other on Monday while riding escalators. Unlike the Greeks, they at least waited until they reached the metro after CSKA won the derby 2-1.

As the rival supporters rode the packed escalators, tensions rose and it turned into a vile and unbelievable scene as grown men climbed and jumped from escalator to escalator to fight each other between a mass of bystanders.

By 1970's Gooner I must say that I raised more than one eyebrow when the team sheet was announced in Athens last Tuesday. What on earth did possess Wenger to name Vermaelen AND Santos in the starting eleven when the game was absolutely irrelevant to where Arsenal would finish in the group?. Santos was the only available left back we had at the club!

Other than the games played in preseason, this certainly shapes up to be the least important outing of the season. We're heading to Greece to take on Olympiakos in the final match of the group stages of the Champions League. But fortunately for us, we already have first place wrapped up, so there's no need to wear out our main players in this one.

We got ourselves a new striker. Eidur Gudjohnsen from Iceland will join us the next two seasons. Gudjohnsen is coming over from Stoke City. The captain from the Iceland national team played for a lot of clubs, including Barcelona, Chelsea, AS Monaco and PSV Eindhoven.

So, I know its a bit late, but I figured I'd get a short review of the season up (even though its a season, one of many, that I would ultimately like to forget about)..
