First and probably most importantly, as long as you're not tender-shinned Scotland-killer
Luca Toni, is the news that the FIGC have banned the supporters of 15 clubs across
all divisions from traveling when play resumes, presumably after the international break.
Ok, here's a question: If your team is up by a goal and has been under pressure pretty much the
entire second half, is the 87th minute the time to give a central defender who has been hurt all
season his debut? And to put him on the pitch for a mid, sending your entire defense into chaos?
Yeah, I didn't think so.
•Roma's biggest Ultra groups have announced that they will not attend the team's home match
with Caglari tomorrow. They won't come together elsewhere this time (as they did during the Udine
match), but instead will just stay home.
•Antonio Cassano is jumping up and down outside Roberto
Donadoni's back window, begging to be allowed to wear the blue shirt again.

•Suddenly indispensable Juventus defender Nicola Legrottaglie's footballing
would be nowhere near as good as it is now if he didn't belong to Jesus.
Which is the most cost-effective team in Serie A? That is, who spends the least amount of money per
point obtained? Here's an idea that came straight from the great source of footy information that
is TheOffside.com. When he's not passionately writing about the Giallorossi or the Italian national
team, RomaChris (author of the Roma blog [.
The 'National Observatory of Sport Competitions' (Osservatorio Nazionale sulle Manifestazioni
Sportive), that little body that decides which of the Italian league matches are considered 'at
risk', has just forbidden stadium access to supporter groups of 5 Serie A teams travelling for away
games. The matches in question concern matchday 14 of Italian league top fligh, [.
Though Ricardo Zampagna blew the game's best chance when he smashed a (dubious) penalty shot
against the bar, a 0-0 draw was a very fair result for this one, a match in which neither team
offering much of a threat to the opposing goal, despite good spells of possession by both. While
neither of these teams is as skilled as those currently surrounding them in the top half of the
table, it wouldn't be a surprise to see them give better teams trouble, and maybe hang around in
the area of UEFA Cup spots as the season goes along.
For the first 65 minutes of this match, I was writing a post in my head about how Atalanta were
going on the run I talked about last week, and how, when Alessandro Rosina is closely marked and
they're without Alvaro Recoba, Torino have no chance to score whatsoever. And then, just after
Atalanta went up 2-0 and Cesare Natali was sent off, 10-man Torino woke up and all hell broke
loose.
After the chaos and horror of Sunday night, things have settled down quickly in Italy, with
officials retreating into meetings, and the thugs, apart from the few who are in jail, returned to
their homes and the jobs they do without scarves wrapped around their faces. The discontent and
mistrust that sparked the explosion, however, remains, and is likely to remain long after all of
this fades away: Any possible solution is so vast, and would extend so far beyond sport that it's
difficult to comprehend, let alone articulate and initiate.
Contrary to rumors that it would be awarded to Milan by forfeit, the Disciplinary Committee
decided today that the abandoned Atalanta-Milan match from Week 12 will be replayed behind closed
doors, though the date for the replay has not yet been set. Apart from that one match, the stadium
in Bergamo will be open; the Curva Nord, however, will be closed, and will remain so until the end
of March, a shorter closure than the one favorite by Atalanta president Ivan
Ruggeri, who was considering closing it for the rest of the season.
Just a quick post with some video highlights of Inter defeating Atalanta on the weekend. Inter
started with the pedal to the metal but lifted off the gas towards the end of the match. They
seemed to do enough and a win's a win I guess... Here's the first goal by Suazo. and here are all
three [.
•Poor Mauro Camoranesi is hurt again this time it's his right quad, and he's
out for four to six weeks. At least he timed this one to coincide with the winter break, so he
won't miss too many matches.
•If the Italian media are to be believed, only a physical (allegedly set for tomorrow) stands
between CSKA Moscow's Daniel Carvalho and a move to Inter.
•Sampdoria's world-class whiner Andrea Caracciolo could be on his way out of
yet another club this winter, possibly to Atalanta. I wonder if it's ever occurred to him that the
problem is his lack of consistency, rather than every club he plays with treating him unfairly.
•The latest player being eyed by Inter to solve their midfield injury crisis is Atletico
Bilbao's Maniche.
Though they're still undefeated, Roma's home draw with Juve yesterday meant two things: First,
that no one has taken full points through four games, and second that teams are deliciously tight
at the top of the table, at least for the moment. While all the big boys (Roma, Juve, Inter, Milan)
were drawing, some of the pretenders to the throne were busy piling up three points; when the dust
cleared, Roma were still top by two points over (deep breath) Inter, Atalanta (!

Win, win, win... and win again. Inter's march in Serie A seems to be stuck in high gear, as the
Nerazzurri obtained yet another 3 points in their quest for a Scudetto renewal. To pay the price
this time were Edy Reja's Napoli, who despite coming back late into the 2nd half with a Roberto
Sosa [...]
•Kaka's dreams: 1)To captain Brazil; 2)To meet Michael
Jordan; 3)To win the Golden Ball. Not necessarily in that order.
•Atalanta have suspended striker Riccardo Zampagna from the team "for an
offensive attitude towards the coach." There's no word on how long he'll be out could this be a
chance, perhaps, for Simone Inzaghi to do more than warm up?
Of the four teams that went into this round within four points of Inter at the top of the table,
only Roma won to keep pace with the leaders. On an emotional day in Florence, Inter played their
best domestic match in a while to reinforce the growing suspicion that the Viola are mere
pretenders (*sniff*), while Roma did enough at home to defeat Udinese, one of this season's most
impressive surprise packages.
