Liverpool linked with Emile Heskey
England striker Emile Heskey has been linked with a January move back to Liverpool.
There were two matches in the English Premier League on Tuesday December 29, 2009 including
Liverpool traveling to Aston Villa. Both teams are aiming for a top four finish and a spot in the
UEFA Champions League for next season. Liverpool have struggled early but are still within reach of
maintaining a top four finish this season.
Aston Villa eased past relegation threatened Portsmouth to reach the Carling Cup Semi
Finals.

Arsenal hosted Aston Villa on Sunday, December 27, 2009 in the English Premier League with both
teams in the top four of the table. It was a chance for Villa to show they are ready to fight for a
Champions League spot but would be difficult playing at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal, on the other
hand, were looking to keep their title hopes alive and needed a win to keep pace with Man U and
Chelsea.
Aston Villa and Liverpool appeared to be playing out a draw at Villa Park as both sides failed
to convert the chances to clinch all three points in this top four chase until Fernando Torres
popped up with a late winner.
Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina pulled off the save of the match as Stewart Downing failed to find
the back of the net from close range.
The English Carling Cup has wrapped up its quarterfinal round as Manchester City, Manchester
United, Aston Villa, and Blackburn Rovers all advanced to the semifinals. Several of the top clubs
(Arsenal, Chelsea, and Man U) rested some of their regular starters while Manchester City fielded a
strong side.
The English Carling Cup is now into the semifinals as the draw was released on Wednesday,
December 2, 2009. The draw provides some very interesting match-ups including the Manchester derby
as City plays United. The semifinals will be a two legged tie starting play on January 5th and 6th
(first legs) and commencing on January 19th and 20th (second legs).
Aston Villa easily saw off struggling Hull at Villa Park.

Barclays Premier League against Stoke. Martin O'Neill's side proved that they are at the top of
their game by winning the game fair and square. The hard earned victory will most certainly bring
the grins back [.
A fantastic brace from Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas and a last gasp third from Abou Diaby was
enough to give the Emirates side a well deserved win over fourth place Aston Villa in a throughly
engrossing contest.
It was real end to end stuff for the first half hour or so as Arsenal and Aston Villa both had
good chances and Brad Friedel pulled off some good stops.
