Emile's rugby tactics Aston Villa striker Emile Heskey celebrated his 500th Premier League
appearance in style with this shot against Manchester United. The former England international
proved that most of his appearances have been as starts when he was reprimanded by the fourth
official for entering the field of play before the electronic substitution board [.

After three years as a backup, Brad Guzan will make his first Premier League start on Saturday
for Aston Villa, and the club is already in the process of trying to extend his stay at Villa Park
before his current deal expires this summer.

Darren Bent has apologised to Villa fans after a photo of him out Christmas shopping in
Cambridge was circulated around Twitter while his teammates were busy losing to Liverpool
yesterday.
It's worth mentioning that Bent had been ruled out of the match after suffering a thigh injury
in the week but, after undergoing two hours of physio on Sunday morning at Villa's Bodymoor Heath
training complex, he was under club doctor's instructions to go home and watch the match on
television which he did, until he got bored in the second half and popped out for some bits.

A shaky performance, but we won. So, Yay?
An early pelanty goal from Robin van Persie, taking his tally to 34 goals in the calendar year,
and a late goal from Yossi Benayoun (from a header, no less) secured a nervous, underperforming,
but ultimately crucial midweek win at Villa Park today.
Aston Villa 1 – 2 Arsenal Match Report
1st half observations from a bad stream
The first 45 minutes were pretty different from what I expected. Aston Villa did not close us
down frantically and allowed Arsenal plenty of space. Especially Gervinho and Theo saw plenty of
the ball, as Villa sat deep in the beginning, allowing our wingers to attack them from the
sides.

It wasn't exactly a beautiful game, but Manchester United's 1-0 victory against Aston Villa was
loaded with talking points.
The biggest storyline from the match wasn't United's victory, but the serious ankle injury
suffered by Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, who rolled his ankle and appeared to suffer severe
ligament damage.
1. Where do you play Jones?
Phil Jones could have never envisaged such a start to his Manchester United career. Despite
playing more minutes than anyone else, there is still the same burning question surrounding Jones
– where do you play him? Certainly, it would appear that central defence is his strongest
position but it is fairly clear that, this season anyway, his chances there will be limited.
As a United fan, I must say life has been pretty dull of late. I don't remember the last time we
scored more than one goal in a game (of course I remember the 8-2. Shameless Plug
alert) or winning a game when we did go ahead and score 2 or 3. Not winning is definitely
a bummer, especially when it closely follows home-ground hammerings at the hands of the rich, evil
super-villain (also note lack of plug here).

In an eventful day of Premier League action, Arsenal, Liverpool, and reigning champions
Manchester United all bounced back from their respective setbacks to win big while Newcastle United
suffered a shocking loss away to lowly Norwich.
The Gunners, who returned home from Greece after a 3-1 thumping at the hands of Olympiakos in
Tuesday night's meaningless Champions League encounter, overcame Everton 1-0 at the Emirates.

Betting Preview: Robin van Persie to lead Arsenal to a win over Manchester City? - originally
posted on Soccerlens.com
Even after suffering their first defeat of the Premier League season, Manchester City still sit
atop the Premier League table, but archrivals and reigning league champions Manchester United are
only two points behind and ready to pounce, and Tottenham, Chelsea, and Arsenal can‘t be
dismissed at this juncture.
Four games in the next 13 days should give Arsenal sufficient opportunity to bounce back from
the recent disheartening defeat against the League leaders. Given the state of injuries in defence
though, Arsene will have to take things game by game. There isn't much room left for tinkering,
particularly at the back.

Aston Villa 1-2 Arsenal - Premier League 21st December 2011
Wiry wingman Marc Albrighton netted the 20,000 goal in Premier League history but it was an
under-par visiting Arsenal side that took home all three points in a tough, tense pre-Christmas

That feeling of joy
Another 3 points in the bag that puts us level on points with Chelsea and just 2 points behind
Tottenham, until their match tonight at least. Not the most accomplished of performance you will
ever see from Arsene Wenger's Arsenal side but don't let anyone tell you that we didn't deserve to
get all 3 points from this game.

We ended up giving a good account of ourselves against Man City but not winning, which was
pardonable enough, but embracing the tag of honourable losers is not an act any team should partake
in with any relish or frequency. Getting a positive result was the most important thing against
Villa, and it gave me perverse pleasure when we managed to do it in spite of being quite poor
overall.
"Nobody can play beautiful football all the time," Robin van Persie commented ahead of the match
against Aston Villa, "I tell our lads ‘If it's not happening for you, just try to kill off the
game so we can move on.'" Rarely does Arsenal score from a set-piece. Even rarer yet does Arsenal
win matches [.
As always, here is our collection of the best transfer rumors we found.
Lukas Podolski is being linked with Arsenalas help to keep Robin van Persie around after this

November 27, 2011 will long be remembered in footballing circles as a day on which on-field
matters paled into insignificance. With the breaking news of Wales manager Gary Speed's tragic
death, the sport was sent into a sudden state of paralysis. Stunned shock and overwhelming sorrow
were expressed through an endless series of heartfelt tributes and fond memories from both those
who knew him well and those who didn't know him at all.

RIP Gary Speed
For a few hours on Saturday, Tottenham were second in the Premier League, until Phil Jones
scored the only goal of a turgid affair between Manchester United and Aston Villa.
But if Spurs continue to turn in the sort of sumptuous performance that secured a 3-0 win
against Bolton at White Hart Lane on Saturday and a sixth successive Premier League win, what's to
say Harry Redknapp's side can't flirt with the highest reaches of the top flight for at least a
little while longer?
